I'm from Austin, Texas, and moved to Arizona to go to the University of Arizona. That's where I met my husband, and I've been married for a little over 2 years. We settled in Phoenix where his family is, and I absolutely love it! I'm a Phoenician at heart. I work full-time and go to school part-time. What little free-time I have I spend relaxing at home or playing with my 2 dogs. One is an Australian Shepherd and the other is a Terrier mix, so lots of spunky energy!

I have a Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, but discovered too late in my degree that I really didn't like doing field-work, and getting into a lab without a grad degree is almost impossible! I felt myself being pulled towards education in my 3rd year, but I wanted to graduate with my husband. I decided pretty quickly after graduating that I really wanted to go back and get teaching certified! Currently, I help run background checks for people to be hired, and lead a team of 6 people. I've been training people for over a year due to company growth. It's giving me lots of opportunities to apply some of the things I'm learning.

I'm very excited and anxious to become a certified teacher. I've been wanting to do this for years, and it's finally happening! It's something I feel really passionate about, and I want to learn how to be the best I can so I don't lose that passion.

Being a teacher apparently runs in my family. There are 3 other teachers in my family - including my mom. I've helped grade papers since I was 10! It's awesome having those resources, and I reach out to them frequently. My mom has been teaching special education mathematics for over 20 years, and spent 5 years as a Spec Ed department chair for a high school. She's taught everything from 4th grade to 12th grade, so she's seen a lot, including kids with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and extreme anger issues. She's had to deal with a kid trying to pee in her trashcan, physically fight her, or suddenly trying to take all their clothes off in the middle of class. She has great classroom stories.
