Additionally, the current president is Michel Temer. This relates to many countries experiencing voting corruption and influence elections including America. However, there are the voting ages are different in Brazil. The official voting age is from 18-70 but when you are 16,17, and above 70, voting is optional. The main product that Brazil produces is sugar, but it also manufactures airplanes, cement, chemicals, electronics, food products, machinery, petroleum, shoes, and transportation equipment. Brazil also has many service industries. Two-thirds of people are employed in a service industry and several people work in education or healthcare for the government. On the international trade front, Brazil exports more than it imports. Some things that are exported include airplanes, cars, coffee, iron ore, meat, shoes, soybeans, soymeal, steel, and sugar. Some imports are chemicals, food, petroleum, machinery, pharmaceuticals, and transportation equipment. Some of its main trade partners are Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom. Brazil produces lots of energy too such as hydroelectricity, oil, and other renewables. This is a good thing, because one thing that Brazil needs a lot of energy for is its  transportation. In Brazil, most people take busses to get from place to place which takes lots of energy. In rural areas, traveling by horseback is common. However in the city, most people either ride in cars and busses. Its Constitution was modeled after the one in the U.S., believe it or not! General Manoel Deodoro was Brazil’s first president in office. After Brazil was formed, and the Constitution was created, there was a time period where the military controlled the country. This was a bad time in Brazil since political parties were limited and the elections were controlled. On top of that, in elections the military would quiet their opponents using repression. As a result, a new state legislature and congress were established in 1986, and the country returned to being somewhat normal again. This is partially due to presidents such as Cardoso who focused on stabilizing the currency, reducing inflation, and promoting economic growth. Bit by bit, Brazil became a steady country again. The 2000’s were a interesting time for Brazil. In 2011, a major mudslide happened, killing around 800 people but in the same year, the first female president was elected (Dilma Rousseff). In 2016, a major thing in Brazil was hosting the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. At one point, 95% of people in Brazil belonged to a Catholic church. Even though the numbers have dropped down to 65%, the vast majority of citizens are Catholic. The reason that fewer people are belonging to Catholic churches is because other Christian churches are growing rapidly and while more and more people are belonging to Christian churches, fewer and fewer people are belonging to specifically Catholic churches. Despite this, Brazil still has more Catholics than any other country. While all of these are a form of Christian churches, there are also other religions few people in Brazil practice such as Jewish, Muslim (Islam), Buddhism, Jehovah's Witness, Shinto, Rastafarian, Candomble, and Umbanda. Even though most citizens of Brazil practice Christian religions, there are still other religions that people practice and celebrate. No matter what religion you are in Brazil, most people are not very religious. Brazilians are also constantly playing soccer. Night and day, Brazilians love playing soccer. In Brazil, it’s called fútbol and over 150,000 spectators come to watch games. Many international soccer heroes started off as fútbol stars in Brazil. No matter how old Brazilian residents are, they often play fútbol. It is just a part of their daily life.

For instance, most adults can read and write and if you are between 7-14, you must go to school. This way even if you have to work for your family, or want to drop out, you still have some amount of education. As to fees, public schools are free to attend but most private schools have a high charge. As a result, poor children typically go to public schools since their parents can’t afford private ones. Being poor in Brazil is a hard life. Poor people often live in slums, which are completely horrible. Residents of slums suffer from a lack of water, malnutrition, no sewers to remove waste, disease, high crime rates, and virtually no space to sleep. It is an extremely difficult way to live, yet 30% of people in Brazil live in these slums. Furthermore, this was the theme of a lot of Brazilian books and literature. Through their work, many authors would describe what was happening in the country at the time. Another very important part of the arts in Brazil is its music. Many composers would use a lilting style of dance called bossa nova in their music. After this, composers would use varying types of bossa nova in their music, slightly modifying it. In Brazil, the popularity of the music outside of the country has had ups and downs. For example, in the 1900’s Brazil’s music grew international attention but at other times, it hasn’t been that popular worldwide. In the television department, there was a large “Cinema Novo” movement in the 1960's and 70'sto show common people social and political problems in Brazil in the hopes of promoting economic reform. Some things that the film writers would write about include political repression, syncretic mysticism, and sociopolitical ills. A famous film-maker who helped get the Cinema Novo movement started was Nelson Pereira dos Santos. He created numerous films to help promote this movement. However, films weren’t only created by men. Some of Brazil’s first major films were created by women. There are several steakhouses in Brazil, even though only middle class or wealthy people typically can afford to go there. For instance, Brazilians eat Continental style, with the fork in the left hand and the knife in the right. After the meal ends, people typically talk for a while over a cup of coffee or something called "mate." There are also specific ways Brazilian residents act in restaurants, such as when people call the waiter to their table by holding up an index finger and saying “garcom” which means waiter in english. Another distinct part of Brazilian eating is mealtimes. People in Brazil usually eat breakfast from 6-8AM and lunch from 12-2PM. However, dinner is different for them. They usually have a late afternoon snack followed by a light dinner later in the night. Some aspects of how Brazilians eat are different than Americans, and some are similar, but regardless, Brazil's eating style is very interesting and unique in its own way.

In addition to hurricanes, Brazil has recently suffered from droughts as well. From 2014-2016, there was a terrible drought. São Paulo was the state in Brazil the most heavily affected. It was said to be the worst drought there in the last 80 years. Data shows that the natural disaster that has cost Brazil the most money for repair is flooding. Floods are also the most frequent natural disaster, and cause the most deaths. Despite this, surprisingly droughts are actually the natural disaster that cause the most economic issues. Some of the worst droughts were a long time ago. An example of this is Grande Seca. This drought took place from 1877-1878 and was devastating. It killed between 400,000 and 500,000 people, making it by far the worst drought in Brazilian history.
