My name is Mary Evans, and I will be one of your facilitators for this Gateway to Grants workshop. I'll also be doing a lot of behind the scenes work to help make it a success!

I am a Sr. Grant Capacity Program Manager with the Grant Solutions team, and have been with World Vision about a year and a half. Before that, I worked on international education programming and was a Grants Office Representative (GOR) at the U.S. Department of State.

My life's passion is coming alongside others as they seek to reach their full potential, and I am so honored to be a part of your professional journey!

I love spending time in the outdoors - hiking, camping, swimming, SUPing - and spending time with people from different walks of life. And of course, eating delicious food!

My name is Michael Jeter, and I am a Grant Capacity Program Manager with the Grant Solutions team. I have been at World Vision for a little over a month, and have worked in the non-profit and education sectors for the last 16 years, mostly in the U.S., Asia, and Latin America. My wife Maegan and I have two daughters, Lucy (6), and Ivy (3), and we live in the Washington, D.C. area.

I love learning and finding ways to improve our strategy, processes, and communication. I will be taking this Gateway to Grants course as a participant, as I prepare to lead these workshops in the future, so I don't know all the answers... yet!

My name is Claudia Bade, and am the Regional RDU/GAM Director. I got my G2G certificate back in 2011 and remain very passionate to further supporting grant quality and compliance, especially on USAID grants. It's my pleasure to facilitate General Grants Policies and Sub-granting / Partnering sessions during the up-coming days. See you there!
Speaking with and for most vulnerable children and community groups is a passion to me, which I can leverage on when meeting donors, SOs and global Stakeholders. Advocacy, donor relations and external engagement best practices I learned from working with my German Church networks and from over 10 years working with WV in the field offices and further 10 years with the regional team.

My hobbies are: Bicycle riding, swimming, dancing, reading, cooking with and for friends.

Week 3 Prompt - A Time You Felt Brave

In 2015 I went on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Iceland that included a week learning how to ride Icelandic horses and visiting some of the famous sites on the "Golden Circle." I had grown up around horses, but it had been MANY years since I had been in a saddle, and Icelandic horses are known for their "spirit" and energy.
We rode different horses over the course of the week, and one of the ones I was assigned fought with me an entire half day, and even scared me with her chomping, head tossing, and pushing into other horses. I asked for a replacement at lunch. But then, the next morning, I asked to ride her again so that I could confront my fears - I ended up riding ahead with the herd of loose horses we were guiding along with us and she was amazing. She just wanted the chance to run a little bit :)

Hello, everyone! Sharing with you one of my favorite Filipino desserts. The name is "Halo-Halo", in English it means "mixed". You have to mix all the ingredients before eating it. The fun and challenging part is trying to mix everything while not spilling some of the ingredients from the container. It's a cold dessert which contains various fruits, milk, and crushed/shaved ice. Some might say it's the "unofficial" national dessert of the Philippines. I'm eager to know exotic and unique desserts in your countries. :)
