Black bears are primarily found in North America and prefer to live in heavily wooded areas like dense forests, so they are covered from the elements while traveling. They may also be found in mountains or swampy areas, but mainly where human presence is low. They seek out locations in valleys that are covered in trees, and find rock cavities, fallen trees or hollowed out logs for denning.
