A divided society?
I don't know about you, but I'm getting tired of the constant discussion about mandatory vaccinations. Why can't each person decide for him or herself? And does compulsory vaccination really end the pandemic?
In this blog entry, I want to list the arguments for and against compulsory vaccination because I think it is important to consider both sides and always treat each other with respect.
To begin with, one of the main arguments is that you have to protect the elderly and vulnerable people. In addition, there would be fewer or no restrictions, one would be allowed to travel freely again and would no longer have to restrict oneself in everyday life.
But, on the other hand, a compulsory vaccination would contradict our values, because our freedom of choice would no longer be fulfilled. Even in my private environment, there are divisions and people who no longer meet because they have different opinions on the issue of vaccination. Won't compulsory vaccination lead to even greater division in our society?
I have no answer to these questions and find the arguments of both sides understandable. I think that many of you feel the same way I do, so I want to share my thoughts with you and speak to you in a positive way. Time will show what is best for our society, so we must stay patient and still treat each other with respect. I will write you again next week, until then: stay healthy <3 Love, Laura.

Dear Mr Johnson,

My name is Luisa Smith and I am attending the 10th grade of Wordsworth Secondary School as of right now. I am writing in reference to the statement you made about mandatory vaccination for students on the 10 Dezember 2021. Many students, including me, are having concerns about the possibility of a mandatory vaccination.
Of course all of us want the freedom back we had pre-pandemic, but we cannot see how a mandatory vaccination could accomplish this.
As of right now, our society is in a state of division because of the still existing two-class system, that brings differences in welfare, education and access to health institutions. The mandatory vaccination creates two classes of people with different rights and would probably worsen these inequalities. Additionally, we are having concerns about our private data, that would be shared with the government or possibly monetised by companies. Finally, our personal freedom to choose what we do with our bodies would be eradicated. As a generation that fights really hard for women’s autonomy over their own bodies, we think that would be a big step back.
We hope that student’s concerns will be taken seriously in this debate, since we are a huge part of the population with around 10.000.000 students in Great Britain.

Thanks for your attention!

Yours sincerely,
Luisa Smith
