Textile Wrapper (Kente) is from the West African kingdoms of Akan and Asente in Ghana. I was made mostly to be worn by the royalty or state officials. It is said that kente cloth was started in the 17th century. For the kingdoms in Ghana the colors have significance; yellow means holy, gold means royalty, green means growth, and red means strong views. The Ishtar Gate from Babylon now is located in Berlin, Germany. The Great Pyramids and Sphinx were built in 2558-2532 BC in Giza, Egypt and they to this day are still standing the location they were built. They are said to be built by the Pharoahs at the time but they were built mostly by the Jewish slaves and overseen by the Pharoahs. This massive sculptures are tombs that pharaohs were mummified and put into. This Textile Wrapper (Kente) is now located in DC. I will be explain why I presented this royal dressing in this way. The reasons are as followed. It is important to understand where the art came from so I used a map to described the piece of art in the place it was made and in the place a visitor would see it today, Washington D.C. Secondly, used the color green to draw in the fine detail of the art piece because color has great significance to this work of art. Thirdly, I used the picture of the work of art to give you the opportunity to understand the detail and work that was put into it. The Ishtar Gate from Babylon is the art work being displayed. It is from Iraq around 605-562 BC and now is displayed in the Vorderasiatisches Museum in Berlin, Germany. In Babylon it was the entrance way into the city. Above is one out of the hundred and twenty lions painted on the gate. With these sculptures, I used a few mechanisms to display these well known structures in Egypt. I first used color to dilute the background and make the pyramids stand out. Then I used a graph and layout of the pyramids to give the viewer an understanding of the size and work that went into these massive structures. I finished with a photograph of the pyramids to understand there pyramid and unique structure.
