Person 1: Why bother viewing literature through the New Historicist perspective? Why should we still use it to analyze literature?
Answer: When analyzing, we want to understand what was going on in the author's mind as they were writing the literary piece. However, when it comes to time periods, an author born in a different period than us will have a completely different mindset due to different life experiences. New Historicists analyze society in that time period, so that it gives us a clearer understanding of what the author meant in what they said and why the wrote their literary piece in such a manner.
