Thank you for being one of the warmest and happiest person I met when I first joined JG. You and the legendary ‘Cold Storage drinking group’ made my first job way more fun than I expected and probably more entertaining than it should’ve been.

You’ve always been the ultimate vibe! Full of energy, laughter and this natural ability to connect with kids like it’s your superpower. Some people train for years but you just show up and sprinkle magic.

I loved assisting your classes; it was like getting front-row seats to the Gerry Show.

When I left JG, I thought that chapter was done, but then I sent Leia to PlayNest and just like that, we were seeing each other twice a week again for three whole terms. I would never have thought one day you would be playing music for my daughter’s class!

Life has a funny way of bringing the right people back around and I think it’s telling us to grab a beer soon!

I will always remember that fateful afternoon at Ming Arcade where I trusted you with a pair of rusty scissors (that we used to cut resources with) to cut my hair. When I heard the “Opps!” after your first snip…. I prayed like I never prayed before.

With my bangs barely covering my forehead, I went to class that day receiving lots of stares (and laughter) from the parents and kids alike. It was truly a day to remember!

Gerry, you have inspired me as a teacher. Your passion and love for the children is infectious. You showed me that we don’t need to take ourselves so seriously all the time and that laughter is truly the best medicine. Or was it beer? :p

Enjoy your retirement and remember…. When someone else ask you to cut their hair, don’t do it! Or at least warn them before you do! 🤭

I will forever cherish the memories!!! Cascaden until the sun sets, the nonsense we laugh about, the unwinding over beer and chicken wings. PlayClubs, lunches on the third floor, and every moment made even more special because of you.

You were such a big part of my early teaching days, and even though it’s been close to 20 years since we last worked together, your impact has never faded. One of the biggest lessons I carry from those days—don’t take myself so seriously. Find the bright spots when things feel crappy, laugh, and laugh some more. OMG, i'm tearing up while writing this! I wish I were there to give you a big, big hug.

I hope this next chapter brings you all the joy, rest (though I doubt you’ll slow down!), and well-deserved time to just be. Whatever comes next, I know you’ll take it on with the same fire and heart you’ve always had. Retirement better be ready for you!

The place, quite simply, won't be the same without you! Your amazing smile, infectious good humour, ability to lighten and brighten any room you walk into will be so missed by so many.

I can't imagine JGC without you. From our time together in Playclub, smoking round the side at Halifax Road, to bringing my own kids to PlayClub (where you were the highlight of the programme for them) to having you heckle for an update on bonus at every Vision Day without fail!
