Under the JFK administration in 1961 under pressure they compromised with African American leaders to desegregate transportation under the Interstate Commerce Commission.with most busses being racist to african americans in the 60s having them sit in the back of the bus or not letting them ride to certain places or not let them in some bus stops so african americans took things into their own hands, the freedom riders would ride all over america and they would not get off or up if they were told to, they would also go to the white bus stops and go into them they would get arrested but they were trying to show persistence against racism.
