Concept mapping is a tool engaging visual literacy. Vicky,(2009), indicates that concept mapping engages both sides of the brain, both the creative and the analytical sides. The words, lines, colours and images promote visual, kinesthetic and writing/graphical pathways. Students are able to link their ideas visually therefore constructing new connections that had not previously been considered. This process also allows for the construction of how minute ideas form a whole picture. The process of concept mapping allows the student to generate ideas, communicate, facilitate learning, embed new knowledge into old. develop complex ideas and illustrate misunderstandings. Concept maps are engaging for students, especially visual or kinesthetic learners. They are fun, interactive, flexible and adaptable. whilst anchoring new information to old without being over whelming.

Allnurses.com,. (2009). Active Learning Strategy: Concept Mapping.

www.spiderscribe.com

This is also a great site to use for concept mapping- i found it really easy to navigate. Would be great to use this within the lower primary classrooms!

I will create an extra page called 'teachers resources' to include these great concept mapping tools. This will help teachers to grasp the concept of digital concept mapping and we will do a brief description about the different types.

who wants to complete this 'teacher resources' page
