Teachers can help fill in the gaps by exposing students to reading on a daily basis, enriching BICS so students can flourish and pick up CALP, creating a rich environment for acquisition, speak slower and clearer with simplified directions or using different words, make sure to have students involved in reading and writing, teaching grammar through context so the student is able to apply it in their language, and assessing differently to encourage.
