When I google my name only things things I have posted come up. Honestly, I don't think there's another Suria Danilenko in the world, so the google search always ends up in myself. I won't lie. I'm not specifically proud of what comes up, but mostly because when I was younger I created every social media account I could, and now I have my name and some questionable photos from when I was 12 all up on the internet. you might be sharing stuff you don't really want to get a wider airing. I don't really give that much attention to my digital footprint, but I do understand that for what I want to do for a living it's usually important. your presence online is part of your professional identity. That's why I have two instagrams: a public one, where, lately, I've been posting mostly videos of me singing and/or acting, and another instagram for my friends, where I don't have to filter myself. sometimes you have to have different kinds of identities with different kind of contexts.

(image: one of the photos that appear when you google my name. I don't like this photo, and I was 12 at the time.)

Surprisingly, my face shows up when you look up my whole name, middle and second last name included. I have a very common name so I'm sure that if I didn't search it like that there wouldn't be that much information about me online or at least it would be hard to find. What first comes up is a twitter account that I don't even use anymore and I forgot I had. What I did like seeing is my picture for the acting agency I joined some time ago. I often use my social media as a platform to share my art with others so I'm very well aware of what I post in them. Overall I'm pretty content with my digital footprint, and I look forward to making a bigger impact to push forward my career.

(image: the picture for my acting agency)

I'm pretty sure im the only Tomas Pinausig in the whole world (They misspelled my surname in the 40s so I know every Pinausig alive today), so actually everything I put my name on shows up when I google myself. I found some old, unused facebook and twitter accounts (Which I couldn't care less for), and some actual stuff about me. There's my youtube account which has a couple of stupid videos I made with a friend of mine (and I'm proud of them!), my Behance profile (Graphic design "network"), which has a project I made for an online course. That one turned out great. There's also my pinterest account (Why?). Finally, there's my steam (videogames) account, which has a kind of inappropriate anime picture but I don't really care. (and I don't know if I should post it here lol)
Maybe something goes to an audience you don't expect it to get to. I didn't expect my steam account to show up next to my actual name, but I'm not worried about it, it's just a hobby.
You have to think about what that identity is projecting about you, and what you want it to project about you.
I think I've been doing this forever but not intentionally: I don't like having my real name as my usernames, so I end up using a variety of nicknames for my accounts. My instagram account doesn't even show up. I'm @tomipina over there.
61% Percent of them [students] very very rarely check their privacy settings.
I do most of the time so I'm good I guess.
Image: The only picture I could find of myself by googling me: My google/youtube account picture.

I googled myself and to my surprise I have a much bigger presence online than I used to before. First hand you can find me in my socials and even my professional profile in other sites. I am used to being careful with what I post and what I show to the world, especially as I’m trying to grow my platform. Overall I can say I’m happy with the results. I’d love to create a much stronger presence, focusing on what I want to share to the world and my career. The quotes that resonated with me the most, that I feel account for this process we have throughout creating our social media presence were: "Most of the things we leave online is stuff that is entirely within our control and are about our own creative process", "We still try to figure out this etiquette" (the usage of social media and what does this mean) & the fact that "There can be really good things about being present online".

(Image: an image from a photoshoot I did two years ago pop up with my name. I feel like I’ve grown and look somewhat different but I still love those pictures! <3)

When I first googled my name I couldn’t find myself in any of the pictures. Probably because I never use my full name in any of my social media accounts. Why? Despite the fact that I never really liked my name, I prefer having an online persona who is me but isn’t me at the same time. “Having different kinds of identities for different kinds of contexts” kind of thing.

Then I tried googling my instagram and (to my surprise) nothing came up, only people I follow on said social media. In a third attempt I googled my secret (?) twitter and once again: my face didn’t come up. It was just some profile pictures I had, tweets and photos I took at concerts.

I happen to be unsure of my feelings towards this. Nowadays is hard not to be found online, like everyone is kind of in touch with everyone and it’s hard not to be “visible”. So should I be proud of not really being google-ble? I guess that now that I’ll be building a career and a professional identity I don’t have anything to regret or delete.

“Privacy settings, who you share with and the circles you share with matter” is something that I know and agree with but still have public accounts because I want my content to reach different people from around the world. Not that I post really interesting stuff but I’m planning to. In order to have a “less-curated” version of my self online I use a super small and private account that only my closest friends have access to :)

This is a picture I took at a concert last year :) It’s one of the things that come up when I google my twitter.

The results I got when I googled myself, did not surprise me in any way. Firstly, because of my unusual surname, my identity doesn’t mix up some other Francisco Furgang, because apparently I’m the only person in the world who’s named like that. On the results, there are no surprises, the first things that show up when googling my name, are my social media accounts; my youtube channel, my vimeo account, letterboxd, etc. Mainly, “it shows my interests”, because the first three links are film related. But the same unusual surname that lets me show up, is the same that mixes me up with my dad, who works in the entertainment industry, and because of that, his information gets mixed up with me.

(This picture is my profile picture on vimeo, and it's the first that showed up when looking for my name)

What does your digital footprint say about you? Well, the first thing that comes up when you google my name is mainly pictures and information of a particular breed of bulldogs that apparently have my surname in its name: "Boxer del mansour", which I actually think is pretty funny. A lot of people from the middle east also come up, as mansour, manzur and al manzur are very popular sirian surnames. The only thing that is actually mine is a prezi presentation I did in primary school called "Los asirios" which, I think, is actually pretty good. When it comes to social media, nothing shows up immediately on google, an invisible footprint ; if you search my name directly on instagram nothing comes up if you search my complete name, however, if you search “cande mansour” you can find an old account which only contains a picture of my baby sister of 2012, and the account I currently use, a public account (my name is kande_kpa which I find funny but isn't very professional). There you can find pictures of me and some photography projects, which shows personal interests. Some pictures are somewhat personal, but nothing scandalous. Although most people don't like the pictures they are tagged in, I`m happy with mine, there are pictures with friends (everything pg13), and some of me dancing flamenco. All in all I`m happy with the person parts of my self that are shared online, however I probably should make my instagram private.

This exercise reminded me of when we did the same one at school, in the Communication subject, we had to google ourselves and see what we could find about our digital footprint. When I did that a few years ago, I couldn't find anything. I believe that is because I never use my real or full name on any social media, and I don't tend to show my face on any public platforms, either. The only thing I was able to find with my name was a picture and article about when I won the second place at a national Spelling Bee contest in 2015. The organization posted the picture and my name, so it wasn't even by my doing. As the video said, we can choose what we show, where, and who we show it to. I think I do that a lot, since everything I post is inherently thought of to be only for the people I allow. It's not that easy to take stuff out once it's out there, so I try to be as cautious as I can.
I find it really scary, and also fascinating that our social media portrays who we are, what we like, what we believe in. This could cause someone to feel like they know a person, just because they have access to all their daily posts and thoughts they share on twitter. This creates, for me, a kind of duality. Do they really know the person? Sure, they probably know their favorite artist and some beliefs they share. But is it okay to act as if we know the depth of a person inherently because of what they show online? What does that say about you? Is it what you want to?
Image: I'm attaching the Spelling Bee picture that was the only one I could find after searching my name, my twitter and instagram.

When i googled myself, the first this i stumbled upon was my pinterest account that does not contain any personal information other that the pins i've saved, the second thing that came up after that were some old participations in music contests from my school in Peru, where i was part of the choir, around the year 2014. The last thing that came up was another participation, a more recent one, where luckily i got the opportunity to be a part of and art exhibit called "Ciclo Pezón tercera edición" in 2019 where i got to show some of my artwork. A quote from the video that really stood out to me was the following: "The stuff that you are sharing now, the stuff that you share everyday can have a long term consequence" "it can be fantastic to build up your network, it's a really positive thing as long as you are being deliberative and thinking of what you're doing, because once it is out there, it's really hard to get it back". For this reason i've always been really conscious of what i post since i've always been really aware that whatever is in the internet will always remain there.

(This is my pinterest picture, young me, and it is the only picture that appears when i google myself )
