  • Shaking. It usually begins in hands or fingers. People may notice a back-and-forth rubbing of their thumb and forefinger. One characteristic of Parkinson's disease is a shaking of the hand when it is relaxed.
  • Slowed movement. Over time, Parkinson's disease may reduce your ability to move. Steps may become shorter when the person walk, or you may find it difficult to get out of a chair. 
  • Muscle Stiffness. May occur in any part of your body. The stiff muscles can limit range of motion and cause pain.
  • Impaired Balance. Balance problems may occur as a result of Parkinson's disease.
  • Loss of automatic movements. A decreased ability to perform movements such as blinking, smiling or swinging your arms when walking.
  • Speech changes. Speech problems my occur as a result of Parkinson's disease. Speaking softly, quickly, slur or hesitate before talking. 
  • Writing changes. It may become hard to write, writing may appear small.
