How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Throughout the process of planning and creating our music video, we had to use many different forms of media. These were different pieces of technology or even just pieces of paper, However, they all helped with making the final video.

The Beginning

In the beginning of starting our coursework we had to plan exactly what we were going to do for our video. This meant planning locations, outfits, scenes, etc. So my group got a huge piece of paper and a few different coloured pens to jot down all ideas they could come up with. To add to this idea sheet, we went onto the internet to further research images of our thoughts to then stick down around our notes.

After figuring out all the details, we had to then look into 'real' music videos of well known artists to get an idea of how everything was going to fit together and how we were going to turn this into its own product. We found many examples of digipaks and adverts, which we then later analysed.

Using software, Photoshop, we then created our own album art to see how we would then later make our own for the video.

Creating the video

When the time came to finally creating the music video, we only needed two pieces of equipment. This was the digital camera and the tripod.

Digital cameras are brilliant for filming in high quality, making the video clear and crisp. It was also extremely handy as it was very light weight. If we wanted to re watch a clip we had just recorded, all we needed to do was select the clip we wanted. It also took pictures whilst it recorded, just incase we needed an image later. To upload the shots, all we needed to do was eject the sd card, which then slotted into the back of the computer. Everything about using the camera was simple and easy.

The tripod was used to make the camera steady when shooting specific scenes of the video. This was also easy to use as everything easily twisted to put together.

Premiere Pro

To actually create and edit the video, we used premiere pro. This is a simple and easy piece of software to use, which also contains many different effects that can be applied to the film. Overall, it took a couple of weeks to get the video completely finished. With a few tutorials, which we found on Youtube, we were able to create boxes within the video, and cutting between clips in time with the beat of the song. There were a few different effects, such as the burnt effect, which made the video look interesting and gave it some colour in places where there wasn't much.
