The authors intentions in this statement was to let you know that you a great the way you are. This is saying that if you are confident or feeling great and "shinning" then others see that and they dont like to see you like that because there are mean people in the world so they try and bring you down so you feel the same way as they do, terrible. Then for making you feel bad they start feeling better about theirselves and feel like they are better then you. I think the authors intentions were to help people lift themselves up when they are getting teased or bullied. The bullies try to make people down or sad because they are maybe jealous of you, angry at you, or they get bullied at other places and they put others down and feel good about themselves. 3 qualities I would find out from a person that tries to dim my light would be that they are: 1. I believe what the statement "don't let someone dim your light simply because it is shining in their eyes" is reflecting in the direction that you must stand your grounds. From my understanding, the authors intent of this was to remind you to strive for your goals without letting a complication such as a person trying to dim your light interfere with your goals. At the end of the day, someone who tries "to dim your light" will most likely make you feel dumb, or make a mockery of you/ your goals because they are threatened, envious, and intimidated by you.
