I am glad to see more work with missing addends in Number Corner. This is an area of struggle in both equations and story problems for my students.
I also see in Number Corner a good visual for doubles plus or minus one. This will help with fact knowledge and using landmark facts to solve problems with larger numbers.
In Unit 4, I looked at the beginning where we will be introducing the open number line. I am curious to see how the students do with this and how they understand that they will determine the parameters of the number line.
Concerns: Time once again where I am gathering materials like cotton string, stuffed or plastic frogs, etc.

My students have really been enjoying the January card markers with the addition/subtraction and story problems. Last week, I put a little twist on how we would solve the equation of the day. The students had already figured out that each day, the date will be on one side of the equals sign. So during our calendar routine, I would stop short of revealing the daily equation. Instead, I took out chart paper, and had the kids come up with possibilities. Today, because of the different schedule, we spent way more time on Number Corner than I usually get to. In fact, the students listed 25 different ways to get to 25! We've done this for two weeks now, so some of the combinations have been really advanced! I got the usual 26-1; 24 + 1; 10+10+5. BUT students also came up with some really neat add/subtr equations. One superstar volunteered: "200 - 76 - 100 +1" When I turned over the card, it was simply 25 + ___ = 25. It's been fun to see their progress!

I really enjoyed January Number Corner. I like the number card markers and that students have to use the number tree and create word problems. The number markers have missing addends which has helped a lot of students develop a better understanding. I also really like that coins are back in Number Corner. That is such an important life skill and the students are really engaged with great probing questions.

I really enjoyed January Number Corner, as well. I was a little concerned that we weren't spending as much time on story problems, missing numbers, and the meaning of the equal sign, but then we had the equations/stories each day and this addressed/ provided me the opportunity to really focus on the word problems and practice that skill with them. I think they're also really excited about it and enjoyed the patterns of the growing numbers. They have also been making connections with the "days in school" to count down to 100. There's a lot of authentic first grade excitement in this time and it's so neat to see their connections in math!

I was really happy with Number Corner in January. I was having some concerns about not spending very much time on story problems. I was thrilled about how well my students did with the missing addends and story problems that were on the number cards. I also felt that my students did understand the equal sign better by the end of January. They were not telling me anymore that the answer has to be at the end of the equation. I really like how the Number Corner in general touches on so many different math concepts.

The class enjoyed the challenge of the missing addend and loved to find the ones we said were "crazy easy". We had some good strategy discussions and they quickly got the idea of the number tree. Any opportunity to work on story problems is time well spent in my mind. I was glad to see the number line come into play since I see it as a very efficient strategy. The class had fun with the activities of finding where to place numbers, I could really see those who were grasping the concepts and those that still struggled. They like the stories about Tad and Poli and the theme of jumping frogs (although I don't have enough frogs for games so we're jumping dnosaurs!)
Concern: We don't seem to have a chance to work with how to record your thinking but we ask them to do it on tests.
