Padlet- Develop a Plan by Tantri Almira

Consider some of the strategies suggested to Andrea and Toni to encourage international-mindedness in their schools. Which strategies would you use in your school? Develop a plan of things you could implement in your classroom or school to embed international-mindedness. You can choose whatever tool you like to make this plan (text, audio, video, etc.).Can you make this change alone? Who might you need to collaborate with? Is this a short-term strategy or a long-term strategy? How will you know it is working?

To make this change, I will need the support of my colleagues, parents, administration, and students. In the short term, I will implement activities like multicultural food days.

Fostering the International Mindedness

Well, we can incorporate global issues and cultural studies into education is vital for helping students understand the world around them. Discussing current events like the Russia-Ukraine conflict encourages critical thinking about international relationships and human rights. By celebrating international days and hosting cultural festivals, students can appreciate diverse cultures, which enriches their learning experience and fosters inclusivity.

Language learning is also key to this approach, as it enables students to communicate with people from different backgrounds. Offering foreign language classes, such as French or Mandarin, and creating opportunities for practice through clubs enhance these skills. Additionally, training teachers to focus on global citizenship helps them effectively integrate these concepts into their lessons. Overall, this combination prepares students to be informed and responsible global citizens who can make a positive impact in society.

Tara

https://www.canva.com/design/DAGNcStxp70/CrffyRLudkQ6H4swEOVCRg/view?utm_content=DAGNcStxp70&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link&utm_source=editor

If I plan to implement these strategies in my school, I’ll need to collaborate with my pedagogical team, colleagues, and students to effectively carry them out. These strategies will serve as short-term methods to maintain the application of international-mindedness with our learners.

It might also be beneficial to include a reflection period at the end of each activity, along with a continuous evaluation, to assess the effectiveness of these approaches. The strategies are as follows:

World Map Exploration: Use a world map or globe to show where different countries are located. Highlight a country each week and explore its culture through crafts, food, or traditions, we can have virtual tours as well.

Cultural Crafts: Create art and crafts based on different cultures, such as making masks, decorating with patterns from around the world, or crafting flags.

International News: Include discussions about international news and current events in your lessons to keep students informed about global affairs.

Global Role Models: Highlight stories of individuals who have made a positive impact globally. This can inspire students and demonstrate the value of international-mindedness.

Krisha

If I plan to integrate a global perspective in the classroom and promote international-mindedness I would use the following strategies:

Provide diverse books: Use various books of different cultures and traditions and help students learn culture through literature. Provide books with stories and folk tales of various cultures and countries.

Virtual guest speakers: We can invite guest speakers from various cultural backgrounds and have students interact with them. Speakers can share their cultures, festivals, traditions and different stories to the students.

International pen pal program: Set up a community of students online and help them find a pen pal to share each other's culture and traditions and help them interact with each other, ask questions to each other and find similarities and uniqueness of their cultures and traditions.

World map exploration: We can make students explore the various places of the world using traditional maps as well as technologies like google maps, google earth to help students explore the world and find out information of those places and help them learn their culture and traditions.

Jinus Dhamala

Objective:

To help students understand and appreciate other cultures.

Actions:

Explore Different Cultures:

Books and Videos: Use stories and videos from different countries during lessons.

Research Projects: Have students choose a country or culture, research it, and share what they learned with the class.

Cultural Exchange:

Pen-Pal Program: Set up a pen-pal exchange with a classroom in another country.

Video Calls: Arrange video calls with students from a different part of the world to talk and learn from each other.

Steps to Implement:

Short-Term Goals:

Start using global books and videos in lessons.

Begin the pen-pal program or have the first video call.

Long-Term Goals:

Plan ongoing projects with international partners.

Set up regular cultural exchange activities throughout the year.

Implementing this plan effectively will require collaboration. Here’s why:

Collaboration Needs:

School Administrators: You’ll need their support to approve and facilitate the program.

Other Teachers: Teaming up can help in sharing resources and integrating the plan into different subjects.

International Schools: Partnering with schools abroad is crucial for the pen-pal program and cultural exchanges.

Why Collaboration Matters:

Support and Resources: Collaborators can provide the necessary resources and logistical support.

Diverse Perspectives: Working with others brings in different viewpoints and enhances the program.

Sustainability: Collaboration ensures that the program can be maintained and expanded over time.

How to Know It’s Working:

Student Participation: See how involved students are in these activities.

Feedback: Ask students what they’ve learned and how they feel about the activities.

Knowledge Check: Test how well students understand and appreciate other cultures.

P.S. - Short-term goals give immediate benefits. Their changes can be managed individually, such as starting initial research projects or setting up a single video call. Whereas, long-term goals create lasting changes and continuous learning about different cultures but these goals require ongoing effort and collaboration to ensure continued success and integration into the school’s curriculum.

Asmita

Embedding International Mindedness

Can You Make This Change Alone?

No, making international-mindedness part of the museum is a team effort. It’s best to work with others to make a bigger impact.

Who Might You Need to Collaborate With?

Museum Staff: Curators, educators, and admin need to support adding global perspectives to exhibits and programs.

Language Experts: Teaming up with language teachers can help create materials that include multiple languages.

Community Leaders: Local leaders to ensure the museum represents the area’s diverse cultures.

Schools and Colleges: Educational institutions to develop programs that connect different subjects and cultures.

Tech Companies: Collaborating with tech firms can help create interactive displays that promote global understanding..

Is This a Short-Term Strategy or a Long-Term Strategy? This is mainly a long-term strategy. It takes time to fully incorporate international perspectives. However, you can start with short-term projects, like temporary exhibits, to test ideas and gather feedback.

How Will You Know It Is Working?

Visitor Feedback: Collect opinions from visitors through surveys to see if they appreciate the new perspectives.

Participation Rates: Check how many people join programs that celebrate different cultures and languages.

Community Engagement: Look for increased involvement from diverse community groups at the museum.

Educational Outcomes: Evaluate how students learn and grow through museum programs related to global issues.

Collaborative Projects: Measure the success of partnerships with other organizations and community groups.

By focusing on these areas, can we can make the museum a place that not only teaches but also encourages global awareness and connection.

Tara
