I learned that the real meaning of a painting is all about the expression of one's ideas and emotions with the help of aesthetic qualities in a two-dimensional visual language. 

I believe every painting has a thing called "the subject", which refers to the main idea of what is represented in the artwork. In short, the subject pointed out in the artwork is the main essence of the piece. It usually answers the question "What is depicted in the artwork?" or "What is the artist trying to prove?"

Based on my understanding, there are 7 main subjects that were established in the course of art centuries.  These are the following: 

First, we have the Landscape that represents natural scenery of life. Second, is the Portrait, which depicts an image of a particular person or animal, or group. The third is the Still life, which portrays the collection of inanimate objects arranged together in a specific way. Fourth we have the Genre, a style of painting depicting scenes from ordinary life, especially in domestic situations. It is associated particularly with the 17th-century. The fifth is the History that obviously showcases moments in a narrative story, especially about past events. Next, we have Mythology, a type of painting that refers to mythological pictures that are obviously based on themes taken from mythology. Lastly, Religion painting is a sacred art that uses religious inspiration and motifs intended to uplift spiritual minds. 

In addition to that, I found out about its elements such as shapes, lines, color, tones, and textures, which are obviously used in various ways to produce sensations of volume, space, movement, and light on a flat surface. These elements are combined into expressive patterns in order to represent real or supernatural phenomena, to interpret a narrative theme, or to create wholly abstract visual relationships. 

Lastly, it also allowed me to discover the different techniques and materials of painting. As per the materials, we have the following: Oil, watercolor, acrylic, mixed, Tempera, and Wax. In conclusion, I find it very interesting how in a short span of our discussion regarding the painting module, it already taught me how to read, analyze and interpret any kind of artwork.

In this way, I will be enlightened on how they manage to put their visualizations into reality. In addition to that, it is also interesting to know their struggles during the process of painting, because i'm pretty sure that every painting has a story to tell. 

Lastly, I wanted to strengthen my skills in reading and interpreting an artwork because I know for a fact that there is a difference between looking and seeing in the context of art. In the similar way, I also want to know how to paint in order for me to experience and understand the sentiments of each artists towards their painting.

Out of the many childhood activities we have, painting made an immense impact on us. In fact, it has been our favorite hobby since we get to draw anything we want and play or mix with different color palettes during the process of it. 

I can still remember clearly how we used to have a complete set of different brushes and watercolors that made everything so much easier. However, as I grew older, my knowledge in painting was stuck in the same old watercolor idea. Nonetheless, it is still unfortunate to think that I never got the chance to actually learn about the different painting techniques and styles that could help broaden my knowledge in this field.
