Both European settlers encouraged the movement of people to the New World by rewarding them with land, money and laborers. Spain had the Encomienda System which rewarded Spanish conquistadors with land and labor for conquering land in the New World and giving it back to Spain. Spain was also the first European nation to achieve conditions for successful colonization.
