During polo's time there was a bustling port and was the main port of its time , but during Denis and Francis's time there was barely any boats in the harbor and was barely bustling at all. And the same was for Marco polo but instead of a letter he was given a golden tablet that game him access to all of Afghanistan resources. In " In the footsteps of Marco polo" they visited  Pakistan and for Marco Polo he made his life in Pakistan for about 17 years ,but for the travelers pakistan was a place they wanted to get out of because they weren't sure if they were going to be able to leave one living in Pakistan because of Government restrictions on american citizens.

Marco polo described it as a beautiful work of art because he went when it was under the rule of Dali and gotto see what today is the Samarkand ruins.
