Women are isolated into "female" related occupations. This can be perceived as an extension of work that a woman would do at home. As we advance into a more accepting society of women in the workplace, various jobs are still viewed as "women's work". To this day women have earned significantly less vs. men while in professional occupations. According to the Canadian Encyclopedia, women earned 52.8% of what men earned in 1911, 58% in 1971 and 66% in 1996. It is apparent women are being paid less in comparison to men; "they have been paid less both when their jobs are not the same as those of men but could be seen as equally valuable and when the work is exactly the same". (Connelly, 2015).

This video talks about the leadership skills that a woman holds when working in a professional environment. When working in an environment dominated by men, sometimes women feel intimidated and pass on the opportunities to in the management position. In the video, Anna mentioned how the turnover rate in management positions is 2.5 times higher among top-performing women than it is among men. This translates to women not feeling confident in their abilities to run a business or manage a team that consists of both men and women. Women have a tendency to feel overwhelmed and overpowered by men, as they naturally have that charisma about themselves. Women unfortunately work extremely hard and it goes unnoticed.

This video talks about the skills that a woman can obtain in order to succeed in a professional job. In the video, the speaker mentions that there are four ways in which a woman can achieve career success. They are: proactive communication, networking, working with a mentor and continuous learning. It is important to hon these skills, as it allows you to develop interpersonal skills. Women have a tendency to feel intimidated by others around them and it is important to communicate well with others. This builds confidence and allows you to make connections with others. This can lead to networking. 70% of jobs are found through networking. Creating a platform for yourself and allowing yourself to make connections is what makes a difference from an average person to someone who can manage a business.

This video emphasizes on women who work high paying jobs and how changes in life impact their role as a leader in their profession. In high paying jobs like law, work hours become more intensive as you gradually increase your position at your firm. When you make partner, you are constantly working. In the law profession, you work will all sorts of people. The male dominance is especially high, and women feel obligated to back down because they feel like the shoes cannot be filled by a woman. The gentleman mentions that when women hit their 30's, they all leave their high position jobs and settle for something less than they deserve. "Why would anyone want to live like that?" The amount of income does not factor the point of leaving the high end position. The quality of life for these women are more important to them, as they have families to support and children to look after. The stigma of having women work under their skill set while the men work to their potential is completely unfair. Women should not feel obligated to resign from a position that they earned in order to attend needs at home. Family is important, and it is something that is shared between two partners. Men should also be considered when resigning from high positions. Women are not the only supporting parent when it comes to their children. Equal roles in family care should be considered. Women should have a fair opportunity to keep their well-deserved job, even if they have families and other commitments.

Women simply choose to study less lucrative subjects, enter lower-paying professions and stay towards the bottom of the career ladder, all due to the gender gap between women and men. The latest data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that women are under-represented in some of the highest-paying occupations (Thomson, 2016). Women do not feel like furthering their education due to the fact that the pay gap is still a prominent issue. Women do not want to put in the time and money only to get paid what they do not deserve. This steers women away from pursuing higher positions, as they feel like their work is under-appreciated.

Within this picture, it displays percentages in different occupations in which women work. From these percentages, it is evident that positions that require a hierarchy have a lower percentage of women supporting that role. Chief executives, Construction Managers, Marketing and Sales Managers all have low percentages of women supporting that role. Women are discouraged as they see an increase in male dominance, and steer away from positions that lack a woman's presence. Women's participation in the U.S labour force has climbed since 1948. 32.7% of women were working in 1948, and now, 56.8% of women have jobs since 2016. The range of occupations women workers hold has also expanded, with women making notable gains in professional and managerial occupations (DeWolf, 2017).

Within this picture shows a bar graph comparing both men and women within job professions. It is evident that the men overpower the women in all categories. Legal has a big spike in men to female ratio. The pay between males and females is clear to be unfair and unequal. Males are being paid more than females for the same job. Although women are more likely than men to work in professional and related occupations, they are not as well represented in the higher paying job groups within this category (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2009). In 2008, only 9% of female professionals were employed in the high-paying computer and engineering fields, compared to 45$ of male professionals. Professional women were more likely to work in the education and health care occupations, in which pay was generally lower (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2009). 68% of female professionals worked in these fields in 2008, compared to only 29% of male professionals working this profession (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2009).
