She shares how she met Barack Obama, as well as some of the unique experiences she had while being the First Lady, such as meeting the Queen of England. A white woman named Skeeter comes back to her home and tries to convince the African American maids working in the wealthy white households the story of what it is like to work in the segregated South. This was a challenging feat because it was a great risk for the African American women to tell their story, as they could easily be fired from their job, and treated even worse in society than they already were.
