L01- Sound Analysis- Lovefield (Short film)

I watched "Love field" we had to find out the purpose and figure out the sounds within the short film. The purpose of the sounds in short film is to entertain the audience as they are dragged in at the start and as the storyline comes to life it made the audience think that the person who's body we seen in a certain shot whether they are dead, this keeps the audience intrigued as they want to know what happens but as we know from watching the film it shows the women giving birth however it was also to inform the audience of what exactly what is happening for example when the phone rings it implies something bad is happened because no-one is answering the phone. The short film called "Love field" by Mathieu Ratthe we found out that the sounds within any film/tv show makes a lot of difference and impacts on the audience. As the sound engineers/crew they have to think about the music used, sound effects, dialogue and ambient sounds.

From watching "Love field" we found out that the audio is as important as the visual. The music at the start was very quiet as the violin was playing and you could slightly hear a wind sound which was quite calming as you saw the crops swaying which mean't you got a real idea of what was going on and this made the audience feel relaxed , however as the storyline started to come together(The farmer seeing the women lay on the floor and running towards the crow). There was a dramatic change in the music as the music started to get louder, this created tension for the audience as this made them feel a little on edge as they didn't know what was happening. When the audience knew exactly what happened( the women giving birth) the music became a lot more soft and towards the end of the film it faded out which gave the audience a happy atmosphere.

Throughout the film there is a large variety of sound effects from phone ringtone to a police car siren, any of the sound effects used are non digetic as we can't visually see anything. Towards the start of the film we hear a creaking sound which sounds quite creepy and also again shows the intentions of a horror film. Straight afterwards a board moving from the wind appears, this then gets the audience thinking, this also shows isolation and tension. The crow is shown throughout and constant sound effects of the crow are heard, there a few shots in the film where there are no sound effects off the bird however the facial expression shows how the character is feeling however a lot of the time the crow will be making Caw noises, this constantly gets louder when the farmer starts running towards the Crow. The crow could be showing the audience that the genre is horror as Crows are portrayed in horrors, it also makes us feel a little more uncomfortable. Another sound effect was when the mobile phone was shown however the ringtone started playing before the phone was shown, the phone was constantly getting louder which could imply that things are getting worse because the phone is constantly ringing and making the audience feel worried.

At the end of the film we hear the police sirens before we see a police car pull up at the scene, this shows that everything is going to be alright from now because they have help and this is a sign of relief to the audience. When the shot of the women's feet is shown it is silent so it shows the audience that something is about to happen but they aren't sure what is going to happen, this is used a lot in horror films to make the people watching more tense and scared because they don't know what to expect. Soon after it is silent we hear a loud stamping noises as the nail goes into the floor very close to the women's foot this is implying that the women might be getting murdered.

Within the film there isn't a lot of dialogue used, however the dialogue we hear is a slight shock. The first thing we hear which is digetic sound within the film is a baby crying, this shows the audience that the women was giving birth instead of getting murdered and this shows a slight relief in the audience which then creates a happy atmosphere. We then hear the farmer say "its a boy" this tells the audience exactly the gender of the baby and makes us feel more at ease and happy about the situation. Straight after this the women says "thank you" this shows that the women is grateful for the farmer's help while giving birth.

Ambient sound is constantly used throughout the film from the start with the wind which starts at the beginning which sets the scene as it shows the weather but also the location of the scene so it grabs the audience's attention straight away. The wind also implies that something negative is gonna happen in the film because wind reveals that its going to be a hard journey but the characters will get there in the end which we know the ending finishes on a high. The birds in the background which you can hear very quietly this shows that the film is based in the morning as birds are usually out in the morning to survive however crows are out any time of the day so this makes it quite confusing to the audience what time of the day it is.

LO1- Sound Analysis- Breaking Bad(Walter White) Season 1 Episode 1 (TV Show)

We watched the first episode of the Breaking Bad. The purpose of the TV show/sound used is to entertain the audience as they are dragged into the TV show straight away as they want to know exactly what is going on with Walter White as at the start he is driving a caravan in the middle on nowhere. The sounds from the music, dialogue, sound effects and ambient sound is as important in TV programmes as it in films.

Throughout the whole of the first episode of Breaking Bad, different instruments(Non digetic sounds) are used when Walter is doing something whether he is making the crystal meth or fighting with other characters, the music in the fighting and illegal scenes is a lot more electronic which sets the scene as people know something bad is going to happen/happening. However when Walter is in the car wash the music is more easy listening and more calm which could be suggesting that Walt enjoys working there or its the place where he doesn't have to hide his emotions. Also the music is quite upbeat and loud when Walter is collecting the items for his lab this could be suggesting that he is excited about doing science(or in his case Crystal Meth)this continues until he speaks to Jesse and then the music starts to fade out. Also in certain scenes Mexican music is played this sets the scene and the location which could be suggesting that the characters or scene is filmed in Mexico however Mexican music is associated with gangs and drugs and the TV Show is about that so it implying that the characters are either in a gang or are drug dealers.

At the start of the show and throughout sound effects are used. At the start the first thing we hear after seeing the landscape of the Albuquerque which is in New Mexico it cuts straight to the sound of a loud car with smashing noises, this then shows the visual of the caravan moving at a high speed and then crashes, this automatically grabs the audience's attention as they want to know whether the characters are going to survive. Once the caravan has stopped Walter gets out of the caravan and we can hear the police or fire engine sirens, this shows that White is anxious however it becomes louder as time goes on, this makes the viewer think that Walter is going to get caught and creates more tension. Another sound effect is when Walter gets his phone out,we then hear a beeping noise with a fade into a phone ringing sound effect, this shows that Walter needs his friend at such as hard time as he just found out that he has lung cancer this shows that Hank is one of Walters best friends and shows the bond between them both.
Later on in the show we hear knocking noses as Jesse and Walter start making the crystal meth by mixing the ingredients together, this shows that the men work well together however that there is a chance that something could go wrong. Soon afterwards two of the characters are trying to figure out how White makes the crystal meth however it ends up in a fight and in the end Walter gets very angry and we start to hear the bullets going into the gun, this then creates tension as the viewer because we want to know exactly what he's going to do, in the end he just ends up shooting the floor however we hear an explosion noise as this happens, this implies that Walter is unstable as he is randomly shooting bullets for nothing and this makes us quite concerned about the character. Sound effects are also effective to tell the time, as we would know that its morning by the visuals but also the sounds as we know it would be morning if we heard birds whereas we would know its night because we would hear crickets.

Throughout the episode there was a lot of dialogue used such as when Walt was talking to the camera but he was leaving a message for his wife, child and friends as he thought he was going to get caught by the police. The speech at the start was muffled which made it realistic for the audience because you could hear the change in music from normal to quite hard to understand what the character was saying. We could also see that the character was very emotional as he was gasping and crying while recording the scene. Another part of the episode that dialogue was very important was when Walter found out that he had lung cancer as the speech became muffled again, with a high pitch buzzing noise which shows that White is blocking out everyone as he found out the devastating noise this then makes the audience understand Walter more. However this happens again in the car wash and he starts fighting with his colleague which shows this anger and upset towards the news and how the character is dealing with it.

Also ambient sound is shown through Walter White's character as when Walter is trying to teach his students he can hear the students talking in the background and it becomes louder which means that the students are annoying him, then afterwards when Walter tells the student to move, the student moves the chair however it is very high pitched which implies that its annoying Walt even more but it also shows a reflect of how the audience is feeling about the situation. Also throughout you hear White coughing a few times, this could be showing that the Cancer is starting to effect him but is hiding that he is ill however it makes us sympathise with the character because we can see how ill he actually is. White also gasps when something bad is happening or about to happen so this could be warning the audience that something terrible is going to happen. Walt grunts when he is trying to keep calm when he thinks the police are coming to arrest him but also when he hits the kid in the shop after the kid was calling his son, this could be implying to the audience that this shows us exactly when Walt is angry or worried.

Shawn Mendes Signature Perfume (Audio Visual Advert) LO1- Sound elements- Sound analysis

The purpose of the Shawn Mendes Perfume advert is to inform his fans and everyone else that he has a perfume coming out, this is a good way of getting people to know that his signature is coming out in fragrance shops but its also promoting Shawn as an artist. The advert could also be to entertain his fans because they will want to constantly want to watch Shawn because they are big fans of him and this will drag them in and will want to buy the perfume straight away. The advert is also for selling purpose so the perfume sells well because it is promoting the product.

At the start and throughout a guitar is used, through the majority of the advert an acoustic guitar(which is calming and relaxing) so this makes the audience feel at ease however there is a scene where we hear an electric guitar this could be suggesting that Shawn likes to play with both guitar and this gives the audience a feel for his music, the guitar at the start also tells the audience straight away that he's a musician, the fans of Shawn would already know this however people who aren't familiar with his music they will know exactly who Shawn is and his style when hearing the guitar, we also see Shawn playing the guitar throughout. When we can visually see Shawn playing the guitar we hear a few chords and all the background music(guitar) becomes silence and all we can hear is Shawn playing the guitar. A few seconds later when we see Shawn getting of his tour bus the music dramatically changes as it becomes more upbeat and we can hear an acoustic version of "Treat you better"(this part is non diegetic) this grabs the audience's attention straight away as they will recognise the song as it was in the charts and they will then remember who the artist is, this music only plays for a around 10 seconds however it then changes dramatically again to Shawn playing the chords. The music changes again when Shawn picks his perfume up and starts spraying it, the music is quite soft and gentle which could be implying that his perfume is going to be quite soft but a good touch of smell. Towards the end of the advert when Shawn starts to speak and when he is getting ready to perform the music becomes more upbeat and is a constant kind of sound as though its playing the same chord over and over again, this creates tension for the viewers because they want to see Shawn going onto the stage but it also shows the tension of waiting for him to go on stage.

Ambient sounds are also used within the advert, when Shawn is getting ready to go onto the stage and waiting backstage we can hear screaming of his fans which is an diegetic sound, this creates an atmosphere and it shows the audience exactly what its like to go to one of Shawn Mendes' concerts but it also builds up the tension for the audience as they want to know exactly what is going on and when Shawn is going to go onto the stage. The screaming when Shawn enters onto the stage it becomes louder this shows the excitement of his fans but also creates tension for the viewers at home but at the end of the advert the screams start to fade and become quite so this shows the audience that the advert is ending. When Shawn is meeting his fans we can hear his fans talking in the background this is diegetic sound as we can visually see his fans talking and taking photos with Shawn, this will be used as it shows the audience that Shawn is a caring person and enjoys spending time with his fans. Another ambient sound is when Shawn is walking to his rehearsals we can quietly hear Shawn's band performing, this is showing the audience that Shawn performs on stage with a band and it is promoting the band as well as Shawn.

Throughout the advert sound effects are used, however in this particular advert there aren't that many sound effects. One of the sound effects used in the advert is when Shawn is signing signatures on items such as guitar picks, his perfume and guitars. We can hear the sound of the pen as Shawn signs the guitar, the sound effect is as though someone is writing very loudly but it sounds soft and smooth which could suggest that Shawn takes care of everything he does. Another one is at the start of the advert when we can see Shawn on his tour bus with his legs up and the shot of his perfume, we can hear the sound of the bus which is an diegetic sound, this could be showing the journey of Shawn but also that the musician tours the world for his fans which shows he likes to travel and keep his fans happy. When Shawn is rehearsing we can hear sound effects of drums playing in the background this could be showing that Shawn may be able to play the drums or suggesting that he is part of a band. A sound effect of spray was also used when Shawn was spraying his signature perfume this shows the tension of the spray being important to Shawn aswell as his fans, this could also be implying that this is what Shawn smells like or what his favourite scent is.

Dialogue is also used in audio visual adverts. In this particular advert the only dialogue is of Shawn or his crew speaking. Dialogue is used just before Shawn goes onto stage when he is with his crew, they say " Go get it" which could be showing that Shawn is a good performer however the help of his crew makes everything go much more smoother and less stressful, it also shows that everyone is supporting him whether its his family/friends, crew or fans. Shawn also says when talking to his crew whilst in rehearsal "ohh I like that part" this could be implying that Shawn is enjoying his music career but also wants to come up with new and original ideas, this makes the audience excited about what could be coming up in the future. Shawn starts singing while he is writing notes on his songs, this could be showing that he is coming up with new music which makes the audience about what is going to happen. In the middle of the advert we see Shawn walking around warming his voice up which is also shown as dialogue because its still speech, we aren't 100% sure what he is saying however we know that Shawn is warming his voice up so w know that he is taking care of himself and this also used to show the things that happen before he goes out on stage so we get to see the real Shawn. At the start we see a shot of Shawn laughing and we hear Shawn laughing which would make the audience laugh or make them happy about what has just happened. Towards the end of the advert we hear Shawn Mendes doing a voiceover saying "I put my heart and soul into my
music, for moments for this" this shows that Shawn is grateful for all his fans and wants to repay them with his perfume however there was a pause which creates tension for the audience because they aren't sure whether Shawn is going to say anything else.
At the end of the advert a women speaks about the perfume about the basic information about whether its for both genders, which it is and other information such as when the perfume is going to be out and where its going to be stocked.

L01- Sound Analysis- Grand Theft Auto (Game)

Grand Theft Auto is an 18+ game, the purpose of the game is to entertain the audience but also sell the product. The music used within the game has a huge impact on the audience as it tells the us exactly what is going on, for example the club music used shows that the character is in the strip club which reveals that the game is quite adult appropriate. The music sounds different when the character is outside because its quite muffled whereas when he is in the location the music becomes more loud which makes us realise where the character is but it also shows the genre of the game as it gives us idea of who plays the game or the type of characters they are. Most of the music shown is club music or rock music with the occasional guitar playing. Also a radio is constantly being played this shows the mood of the characters throughout which gives the audience an idea of how the character is feeling and what may happen, however it changes throughout which is down to the location changing as the radio will be more intense and loud when the police are chasing the drivers on the other hand it would be less tension when we know that something is violent isn't happening.

There are over 3,000 sound effects used in a whole game of Grand Theft Auto, most the sound effects are non diegetic if we can't visually see the object however the ones we see on screen are diegetic. as this is what makes the game more realistic because without the sound effects the game wouldn't be as successful. A police siren is used a various amount of times within the game, this shows the audience straight away that the game is very violent and every time we here the police siren it then creates tension for the audience as they know something bad is happening. The police siren is used mostly when chasing the drivers this makes the audience think whether the driver is going to get caught or not. Footsteps are used constantly in the game, the footsteps change when the character is on different ground for example if they are walking on grass the footsteps become more soft however if the character was walking on a cliff we would hear the footsteps more clearly and louder as this would create tension being the viewer or player because it makes us wonder whether the character is going to die. Another sound effect used throughout are Gun shots and explosions which creates tension for the audience because we can sometimes see the action happening(enhancing the visuals) however sometimes we can just hear the sound effects. There are a variety of guns shot sounds this then reveals the different guns used within the game but also when a gun hits a car it makes a different sound to what it would if it hit a character. A police call/radio is also used to reveal action as it creates tension as well as establishing time and location as it shows exactly what is happening but also the location and time of the action.

Ambient sounds are also used with Grand Theft Auto. An ambient sound used is the noises of being underwater even though there is no underwater swimming we can hear splash noises when people go into the water or when a plane crashes into the water this enhances the visual but also the location. We can hear the sound of flames when we can visually see a car on fire this creates tension for the audience however it is quiet so it sounds silent which effects the audience as they aren't sure whether there are characters in the car.Another sound effect used a lot within the game is vehicle engines however there are around 100 different sounds of engines from car engines to lorry engines and this shows the type of vehicle being used, but they change throughout for example different car sound effects will be used when a car is racing which makes it more realistic for the audience, also it changes when a car crashes as it becomes more louder as we see the car going into the air or smashing into an object. Crickets are used throughout to show the time day which as we know crickets are out at night, this shows the audience that the game is set at night.

Dialogue is also used in Grand Theft Auto, the dialogue used is diegetic as we can visually see characters speaking unless the we can something else such as the someone else driving or what is ahead of the driver. The dialogue used is quite offensive and in some cases racist or discriminating(a reason why the game is an 18) this could make the audience feel awkward or uncomfortable about the situation but it also enhances the characterisation as it shows us exactly what the character's personality is like. The dialogue could also in some ways shows the location of where they are as it there language could change when they are with certain characters or place. An example of dialogue used is "come to daddy" this is quite inappropriate, this could suggest that the character is into strippers and his sexual language makes the audience feel a little awkward. Another piece of dialogue used is "please don't kill me" this could be implying that one of the characters is in danger and this then establishes the mood of the character as it shows that they are terrified. "You talk like a girl" is also used within this version of Grand Theft Auto, this could be implying that one of the characters is a bully towards the other characters, this creates tension for the audience as they would find it quite offensive.

BBC Radio Drama- Just a girl Episode 1(Sound analysis)

"Just a girl" is a radio drama about a transgender girl who starts to get questioned about whether she can use the boys or girls toilet. The purpose of the radio drama is to entertain the audience but also educate the audience as they may not know much about transgender and want to know more about it. Popular chart music such as Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber is heard throughout the drama, this is heard from the radio this could be implying that the main character- Amy is into chart music and it also enhances her youth. It could also be implying that the girl's favourite artists are Ariana and Justin. The music playing through the radio would be non diegetic because we can't visually see the radio we can just hear it clearly in the background. The radio is also setting the scene/location as it could be telling the audience that they are either at home or in the car but as we know the characters are at home. The piano is playing a various amount of times within the drama, this tells the audience that Amy likes playing the piano, which as we know she wants to have a career within theatre. Further on "Just a girl" upbeat theatre music begins to play this could be establishing the location but also remanding the audience that Amy wants to become a performer. When the family are celebrating and the upbeat chart music is playing this establishes the mood as shows that the family are in a positive mood. Towards the end of the drama Spanish music is being played this could be implying that Amy or a relative is Spanish and this makes us know the character more. At the end of the radio drama we hear theatre music playing in the background this could be making the audience want to know whether or not Amy is going to become a performer or if the problem of whether she can use the boys or girls toilets.

Sound effect are used within the radio drama, this makes it more realistic to the audience as it makes them feel as though they are in the radio drama and its creates more tension. At the start of the radio drama we hear the sound of a tap being ran, this is the first thing we hear this sets the location as it tells the audience that it begins with a character making a drink and most likely be in a house. Throughout the sound effect will be played before the dialogue is used, for example we can hear a biscuit packet being opened, one of the characters then says "What you doing with the biscuit?" this creates tension as it makes the audience want to know what the sound is,we are then told from the character what the noise is. Another sound effect is when Amy walks into the house we hear a bang noise as though she is slamming the door, this reveals that another character has been introduced into the radio drama. The banging noise could also be implying that the girl is angry because it was quite loud and makes us wonder what the noise was but also who made the sound. Further on we hear cereal being poured into a bowl, this sets the time but also location because we know its the next morning because the cereal represents that its the next day and the radio in the background shows that the characters are currently at home.A drum roll (kinda like a beat box sound) this is when Amy is waiting to find out what part she is playing in the musical, this creates tension because it makes the audience want to know what part Amy gets but also whether she gets the part of Maria. Toward the end of the drama Amy gets a text from one of her friends warning her about what is going on, the sound effect used in this situation is a phone text message ringtone, this shows that Amy has received a text and makes us want to know exactly what as been said but also makes the audience feel slightly nervous.

Within the radio drama dialogue is used through most of it. One of the first things we hear is "oh here she blows" this establishes the mood of one of the characters as we know in this case its Amy, this makes us feel anxious about the situation because this is when we are first introduced to Amy and it makes us instantly think that Amy is quite an angry person but as we know from listening we know she only gets upset when something bad has happened which in this case boys are winding her up. Further on in the drama we hear "Oh arrr" which could suggest that the character has injured himself and as we know the father has a twitch but doesn't tell us where because he says "I can't tell you where" which makes us wonder what is going on with the father, is he keeping secrets?. Later on when the family are celebrating the father asks Amy "what's up sweetheart?" this shows the bond between the father and daughter but also that the father knows when Amy is upset, and as we know that Madison and Amy has fallen out, we also know this because soon afterwards she become upset and starts going mad at her parents as well as calling her a "bitch".
When the parents find out about what Madison has done and said about Amy which is saying what toilets should Amy use, the boys or the girls? The father says "Oh i'm going to go around there" this reveals the mood of the father, we know from this that the father is full of anger and is ready to go round to Madison's house to talk to her and her parents. Then when Amy's mum hears Amy crying and about what Madison has done on social media (unfriended Amy on Facebook, Unfollowed on Instagram, blocked her number, sent nasty snapchats) Amy's mum says "what a pathetic thing to say?" as Madison says "Your to young to understand whether your a proper trans" this angers the mum and says "right that's it" this shows the mood of the mother and it make us feel anxious about what she might do.

Ambient sound is also used in radio drama, the radio in the background is one of the main ambient sounds used, it tells the audience that the scene is on the next day, because the radio will be played at the start of each morning when the characters are getting to go out to school or work. It also enhances Amy because it shows her youth because young people like chart music. Further on in the drama we can hear school children talking in the background, this sets the location because we know exactly where Amy is. At the end of the radio drama an ambient sound is Amy crying, this creates tension because it makes us feel bad for Amy. Throughout the radio drama when the scene is set on different days there is a soundtrack being played on the radio, very similar to a news report being played at the start, this makes the audience realise that its a different day but the same location.

A foley artist is a person who creates or alters sound for use in films and videos. The foley artist is responsible for the specific sounds that are created for special effect from explosions to background noises such as cars. The artist will create sound effects, atmospheric sounds, music and dialogue.

Sound effects create a very important part in the audio even if the audience aren't able to hear the sound clearly as this creates the bigger picture and creates more tension. An example is "Into The Woods" there is a sound as though someone is walking across a lot of leaves, this is when the witch is walking through the woods but also when she suddenly disappears, this sound effect is used by someone walking over hundreds of leaves with a certain pair of shoes on to make it sound the way it does. Marko A. Costanzo was the foley artist on the film but he's also worked on other films such as The Wolf of Wall Street. Another sound effect of broken bones, this would be used a lot throughout horror or fighting films. The sound is used by braking a vegetable such as salary, this creates the illusion that someone has dramatically broken a bone. This happened in Annabelle, the foley artist for this film is David Jobe who also did the same role in The Hunger Games. Another sound effect is fire crackling, Joe Botham creates this sound effect by Gently wriggling a piece of foil to make the warm crackling sound like fire. The equipment used to create more sound effects will be a object from vegetables to car windows, there is a wide selection of objects that can be used, if it sounds good for the purpose of whats on screen then it works! Microphones are used when creating the sound effects, usually foley artists will use Boom or Shot gun microphones because it will only pick up the sound that you want and no other noises as the microphone is pointed towards the subject, they are high quality and are portable.

Atmospheric sound is also made by the foley artist, this sets the scene and location. An example is a school bell ringing, this would be used by a bell actually being rang, if the foley artist isn't able to get a bell then, companies can buy atmospheric sounds from other foley artists. Mean Girls has a bell used within the film, the foley artist is Sarah Monet who also does the atmospheric sound for Titanic. Another example would be a crowded street, The foley artist for Gossip Girl(which is based in New York) is Richard Partlow who also did work on The Blind Side, the crowded street would be a variety of sounds from people talking to police sirens. They will be naturally used as the foley artist will get people to speak and then the police siren would be just be produced as a police siren. Another ambient sound is being in a restaurant, the sounds for this will be people talking, music playing in the background. The sounds will be recorded of people speaking, an example of this is Ratatouille as there are people eating in the restaurant, the foley for this particular film is Ellen Heuer, she also did foley for 12 years of slave. The equipment used for atmospheric sound is a field microphone, this is made for using outside so you can pick all sounds up from the microphone this makes it more realistic to the audience because you can hear every sound within the scene.

Music is also part of the process of foley. Music is produced by instruments such as pianos or guitars and other orchestra instruments. An example of theme music is Ghostbusters because everyone will remember it and knows exactly what the film is when they hear the soundtrack. The foley artist for Ghostbusters is Michael Broomberg who also is a foley artist for superhero films such as Spiderman. The music also has dialogue in it as its the original soundtrack, this could make the audience want to sing along. Another example of music used within foley is a character's signature tune for example the Star Wars Imperial march, this plays every time the stormtroopers appear on the films, this tells the audience when the stormtroopers are appearing as they have their own signature tune. The foley artists for Star wars are Dennie Taylor who has also worked on forest grump and Avatar and Jana Vanace who worked on UP and Guardians of the Galaxy. The last example is the James bond film score, this shows the audience that its a 007 film straight away because its such a popular film score. The foley artist for James Bond is John T. Cucci who also worked on Pirates of the Caribbean and Star Trek Beyond. Music can also be done using any object from tapping on the microphone to tapping onto cardboard with your nail and rubbing coins together. One of the microphones used to record music is a dynamic microphone which is good for recording piano and choirs, these are good to use as it would pick up the whole of the instrument or object being played. For singing purposes then a condenser microphone would be used as it is superior quality and are used a lot within recording studios.

Dialogue is also very important within the sound elements of any media product. Voiceovers are a part of dialogue foley, these will be filmed in a foley or recording studio with high quality equipment. Voiceovers are usually for animated media products such as Children's TV shows or for narration so the audience know what is happening in scene or a commentator which talks throughout the show for example it is used a lot through the TV Series Jane the Virgin, the foley artist for the show is Jason Charbonneau who is also the foley artist for Annabelle and The Edge Of Seventeen. An example would be Sausage Party as there are a lot of voiceovers of the characters as it is an animation film. The foley artist for sausage party is Gregg Barbanell, who is also an foley artist for Suicide Squad. An example of dialogue is scripted speech, this would be produced the same way in a recording studio with a variety of different microphones. Scripted Speech is used in all media products as they need to know exactly what is happening in the show/film. The dialogue will either be filmed on set as this is the easier way to produce the dialogue however if the audio doesn't sound great then they would re-do the dialogue in a studio or there is no option to do it on set if the product is an animation or narration. The equipment used for dialogue would of course be a script so the actress/actor would know what they have to say but also they would also need a variety of different microphones from rodes which records high quality audio to boom microphones so they have a variety of quality audio.
