         <description><![CDATA[<p>By 1776, At first, only white men with property were the only Americans allowed to vote. A few states allowed free Black men to vote. People  needed to vote because America had just recently become a free country, and to get things done. They needed the people to vote on who and what gets passed. Everyone was affected by this because everyone needed to vote.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The right to vote is not denied by race. This amendment was created to secure voting rights for all citizens. It affected, particularly southern African-American Men. This Amendment was passed by Congress on February 26, 1869, and ratified on February 3, 1870. The reason for this amendment to be ratified was because African Americans were not being allowed to vote or they had to take a literacy test before they were allowed to vote.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The 17th amendment allowed for citizens to directly cast votes for U.S senators.  It was made because people wanted the ability to chose senators by popular vote. Before the amendment, the previous system allowed state legislatures to chose senators, and leave the general opinions of the public eye out of consideration. </p>]]></description>

A lot of people were promoting women's suffrage and gender equality. including the Equal Rights Act of 1964. The group that was the most affected were Women. On June 2, 1924, granted citizenship to all Native Americans born in the U.S. The reason that this act was signed was because it recognized the thousands of Native Americans who served in the armed forces during the First World War. The group that was affected was the Native Americans and other Indigenous peoples.</p>]]></description>

The 23rd Amendment was introduced on June 16, 1960 and was ratified on March 29, 1961. Before the 23rd amendment the citizens of DC were not allowed to vote in the national election. The Amendment allowed the residents to have a voice in the national election.</p>]]></description>

Specifically, it outlawed discriminatory practices commonly seen in the south, such as literacy tests, or other voting procedures put in place in an attempt to stop african americans and other groups from voting. This act was enacted by the 89th congress, for the purpose of enforcing the fifteenth amendment of the constitution. It was signed into law by Lyndon B. Johnson.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Anyone who is 18 or older is allowed to vote and the right to vote cannot be taken away by the national or state government. In July 1961 the 26th Amendment was ratified and the voting age went from 21 to 18. The reason for this amendment to be ratified was because people believed that if you were old enough to go to war you should be old  enough to vote.</p>]]></description>
