         <description><![CDATA[<div>Friction is the resistance that one surface or object encounters when moving over another. There are two main branches of friction, namely static and dynamic/kinetic friction. Static friction is the friction an object encounters, right before it accelerates. If the applied force exceeds the maximum static frictional force, then the object starts to accelerate. The static frictional force is proportional to the normal force and can be any value between zero and the maximum possible value, which is calculated using the formula Fmax=Coefficiant x net force<br>Once the object starts to accelerate, the friction acting upon it kinetic/dynamic friction. The force exerted by kinetic friction is far less when compare to static friction.</div>]]></description>

The reason for friction is the interaction of molecules of the surface and the object when they are in contact. The rougher the surface, the more the friction. Even smooth surfaces have imperfections on the molecular level.  The two types of friction are static and dynamic.<br><br> Static friction resists the initiation of motion.A heavier object experiences a greater normal and frictional force because the object will push harder or the surface which increases the contact between atoms of the surface and the object. Static friction will increase until the magnitude of applied force is greater than the maximum static frictional force.<br>The maximum static frictional force is directly proportional to the normal force.<br>The formula for maximum static frictional force is:<br> F max= <strong>μ + N<br><br></strong>Dynamic friction is the friction that acts on a moving object. It resists motion of the object. A body moving on a surface experiences a force in the opposite direction which resists its motion. Dynamic friction is less than static friction because when the object is in motion, there is less molecular attraction between the surface and the object. <strong><br></strong><br></div>]]></description>

This attraction causes resistance, which hinders the motion of the objects<br><br>There are two types of friction, static and dynamic.<br><br>Static friction opposes the initiation of motion ( friction which is present before the object starts moving). The static friction will continue to increase until the applied force exceeds the maximum static friction that an object can exert. The maximum static friction has a different value for different objects. The value of Fmax (maximum static friction) is directly proportional to the normal force and mass of the object. <br><br>Dynamic friction opposes the motion of of the moving object the object (friction that is present while object is moving). The dynamic friction will always have a lesser value than the initial static friction.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

It acts in a direction parallel to the motion of the body. <br><br>Every surface has a different coefficient of friction (the ratio of the force required to move two sliding surfaces over each other, and the force holding them together). Smooth surfaces offer less friction and rougher surfaces offer more. <br>Friction is of two types; static and dynamic friction friction. <br>Static friction is the force that resists the initiation of motion. It is equal to the force applied until the applied force exceeds the maximum static frictional force  and the object starts to accelerate. The static friction is proportional to the normal force. <br><br>Once the object has begun to accelerate, the dynamic friction resists the sliding motion of the body. Static Friction resists the object moving in the first place, keeping it in the same position that it was. The static force will gradually increase as the applied force on the object exceeds the static force and the object starts to move. Dynamic friction resists the motion of the moving object when you apply force, this will depend on the surface on which the object is moving (smooth or rough). The maximum static friction will always be proportional to the mass of the object and the normal force. The dynamic friction always has a lesser value than the first static friction, this is to keep the object from sliding.</div>]]></description>

Friction occurs due to the attraction of two oppositely charged particles. This attraction produces a resistance between the object in motion and the surface upon which the object is travelling. Smooth surfaces cause less friction and rough surfaces cause more friction. There are two types of friction, static friction and dynamic friction.<br><br>1. Static friction occurs when an object is starting to move from its state of rest. In other words, it resists the initiation of the motion. When the the force applied on an object  exceeds the maximum static frictional force, the object begins to accelerate. If the mass of an object is heavier, then the force required to exceed the maximum frictional force is also higher, and if the mass of an object is lesser, then the force required to exceed the maximum frictional force is smaller.<br><br>2. Dynamic force is the resistance that opposes an object while it is motion. In other words, it is the friction that is present while an object is in motion.</div>]]></description>

The amount of friction an object faces is dependent on the surface against which it is moving. <br><br>There are 2 types of friction - static friction and dynamic friction.<br><br>Static friction - This is the resistance that a static object faces. Static friction tends to keep an object which is at rest at rest. If the force applied on an object is equal to or less than the static friction, the object stays in the same place. If the force applied on an object is greater than the static friction, the object will move. The greater the mass of an object, the more static friction there is and vice-versa. Mass is directly proportional to static friction.<br><br>Dynamic friction -  This is the resistance that a moving object faces. Dynamic friction tends to stop a moving object from continuing to move. If the force applied on an object is equal to  the dynamic friction, the object continues to move at the same speed. If the force applied on an object is less than the static friction, the object will decelerate and if the force applied on an object is more than the static friction, the object will accelerate.</div>]]></description>
