Ramer et al. (2016) state, "Unsuccessful IV access is frustrating for nurses and is widely known to cause anxiety for the patient" (p. 273). The VeinViewer decreases anxiety and frustration for both the nurse and the patient by giving the nurse optimal visualization for vein location and selection (Ramer et al., 2016). The VeinViewer technology utilizes infrared lighting to reveal projected images of the patient's veins on the patient's skin surface (Christie Medical Holdings, 2016). The president of Christie Medical Holdings, George Pinho, claims, "VeinViewer is the
