Reading through the brief I found myself drawn to it like a moth to a flame. Through being a little odd myself I feel like this brief is a good starting one for me.

Looking at the brief I thought of bikes from the get go, gathering a small amount of research on my phone about the company that supports it and what the actual festival. The main question was which event I wanted to advertise. Through this I opted for the more crazier bike, the Penny Farthing.

With the bike chosen I wanted to look into the colour scheme a little more, and I found myself looking up the bike company which used the colours dark pink, light pink, grey-blue, black and white. This meant that I had some forms of colours to use for the idea I had started to formulate.

I wanted to think outside the box from what I would usually do, which was go for a poster or some form of digital media.

Thinking ahead I thought of other media I could use, and 3d printing came swirling through my head. Making a 3d model of a penny farthing was a damn good idea. Especially if I could use the colour scheme of the bike company Raphas to colour the bike and then use white font to advertise the event.

This I found to be a silly idea after speaking to someone who could actually use the software ( CAD ) I found trying to use another student to achieve my idea was probably a dumb idea. Through speaking to them however we came up with a plan to use recycled materials instead, potentially cardboard, dowelling rods and some form of foam.

The plan was to use recycled materials like foam or dowelling rods to create a 3d model of about 8 inches high and 6 inches long. I want it to be big enough that you can read the event on the body of the model but also see what the model is. I intend to make the model move, thusly making it look more realistic.

To answer some of these questions I felt like I needed to fix the design a little more.

Where would you put it?
I feel like, due to the size I wanted to make it, that it would be a good idea to have it on the till of a shop, just colourful and sitting there and would therefore catch the eye of someone who was just paying for something.

Shops? Too small for street?
I feel like with the dimensions and the time constraints of the brief that putting it in a shop would be better than having it on the street ad no one seeing it.

Big enough for people to read?
I had originally wanted to put the writing on the body of the model but I feel like people would struggle to read it so I have adapted my idea since then to have a back ground attached to my model.

Why recycling? Support companies need?
For me I just felt that making it out of recycled materials would be easier for me overall, nothing to really do with what the company wanted. With that being said, recycling is going out of fashion in society standards and could still appeal to the eccentric target audience more.

Print on recycled material?
I was hoping that I could do that either with actual using a printer or painting it on myself. That has changed with the small background leaflet that will be with the model.

Promote event or race?
In all honesty I had wanted to advertise the whole event to people but with the model being only of one bike type it would probably be easier to advertise the one event with mentions of it being of a bigger event.

Is this doable? You would need loads of these.
With the specifications of the model and the small leaflet it comes with I am pretty sure you could get many done in one sitting and have them placed by tills all around the areas of interest.

Will catch person's eye? Decorative?
My plan was to use the colours of the Raphas biking club who sponsor the event to show off their team and also with the bright leaflet it comes with it will definitely be eye-catching.

Point of sale? Back board?
My plan changed with this question because the peers gave me an idea to put a back to the model with the information on for the events and such instead of putting it on the model and maybe not being able to see the writing.

This idea has a 90 degree angle card board to showcase the advertising for the Raphas event and then the penny farthing would be sitting pretty at the fore front of the work.

The Penny Farthing bicycle obtained its name from the penny and farthing coins of the time. The bike was made entirely of metal instead of wood and the tires were rubber. The high centre of gravity often caused the rider to topple forward whenever it hit any small obstacle. This bicycle was given to local business man George Ace (1861-1943). In 1879 he became Amateur Cycling Champion of Wales and Monmouthshire holding the title until he retired in 1885. The same year he rode from Haverfordwest to Tenby in one hour twenty-four minutes on roads that where not smooth with tarmac and on a bike that had no gears and weighed forty pounds. Later in life he became actively involved with motor cars and is credited with introducing the first autocar into Wales.

The first part was making the spokes which I labelled incorrectly, as my inspiration was from something my friend had tattooed on her and what it was actually called was a bike chain ring. I found a pink to purple gradient to place as a clipping mask behind it so it had the colours that matched with the event colours of the company Raphas and the event itself.

One of the small logos that were used for the event were the RIDE in a square shape, so I added one of those to go with the flow of the other leaflets and posters that would be around about this event.

Strengths:
The strengths throughout this brief were that I had an idea for the first element straight away, and the second followed easily enough.

Weaknesses:
I find that when doing hands on things like cutting out or using a craft knife is hard for me. I get impatient and I do not do everything I need to. This came to pass when I tried to make the model and I feel like I should be more patient and also take my time. Another weaknesses is time management which I can always do better.

If I could do this brief again:
I would look at what I know I can do and only push myself a little to do something more hands on if I know I am going to patient enough to put the work in for it. Also, I will work on my time management so I'm not working on it last minute.
