I found that metaphors are commonly used in these lyrics for example in the first paragraph you can not literally see the meanest side of a person but will.i.am means when people are in a bad mood due to their life and you can't take away a dream in this case it's more disobeying a wish. As well as a heart can't be made of steel in reality it is an extremely vulnerable organ when will.i.am says a heart of steel he means that people have hardened their hearts and are ready for war. There is also rhythm and in some parts rhyme. There is also repetition as this emphasises a point across and will.i.am is trying to get his point across and make people wonder. More examples of his word play is “All the kicks and all the blows he won't ever let it show” he refers to there as emotional kicks and blows whereas most people will think it is physical kicks and blows. Will.i.am also uses urban language in his word play as this adds to effect. When he says “everyday every hour turn the pain into power” he refers to the pain that fuels the father.

One of the main poetic techniques used in "superheroes" is metaphors, one metaphor was a heart of steel starts to grow, he's trying to say that the person has a very strong heart as hearts are usually very fragile and weak. Another technique used was repetition he wrote "when you've been fighting for it all your life, You've been struggling to make things right, That's how a superhero learns to fly" he writes this few times so he can get the point across that some people are doing all they can for their family, even though there's not much for they can do. Lastly will.i.am used a pun in the song, he wrote "They took away the prophet's dream for a profit on the street", this meaning the white went against "Gods dream for everyone to be level and equal, by making themselves to bigger and better then the blacks, and in turn kept money for themselves.

The lyrics explain how a person with nothing is fighting for his rights and dignity and all this is shown through poetic techniques. For example a pun was used in the 3rd and 4th line it said "They took away the prophet's dream for a profit on the street" this shows how at that time the white took away god’s dream for everyone to be equal, and they did this all for money so they had more money to themselves. Also in the lyrics Will.i.am used metaphors to explain how someone with nothing can be so strong and he showed this when he wrote in his 6th line that a "Heart of steel starts to grow" this shows how a heart something that is so soft and fragile, and this shows how a person can have a heart strong as steel even when they have nothing. Will.i.am has also used repetition in his song to help the main message of the song to sink into the audience such as "A heart of steel starts to grow has been used in the first and second paragraph as it is displaying the main message of the song and that is to be strong. Lastly, Will.i.am used an imagery technique as he played with words and made sentences which, when you read they paint a picture in your mind such as "A superhero learns to fly" when someone reads this it automatically paints a picture of a superhero learning to fly in their mind.

The lyrics in the song called "Superheroes" had rhyme in it, an example of this is when Will.i.am said "All the kicks and all the blows, he won't ever let it show", this means that no matter what happens to him, he won't show weakness, he will keep fighting on so that his daughter won't lose spirit. During the song Will.i.am also used a pun, the pun was "They took the prophet's dream for a profit on the street", he is stating that the whites did the opposite of what god's dream which was for everyone to be equal, instead the whites took advantage of the blacks and made money off them. Lastly Will.i.am used emotive words, he used this when he said "All the hurt, all the lies, all the tears that they cry, when the moment is just right, you'll see fire in their eyes", this means that no matter how hard life is for her, no matter how much she cries, when it is needed, she won't give up.

The song called "Superheroes" written by Will.i.am the most common poetic techniques used was metaphors, one of the metaphors used was "a heart of steel starts to grow". This means that the person has a powerful heart as hearts are usually weak and powerless. Will.i.am also used the technique of emotive words. For example, he wrote "When you've been fighting for it all your life". This is emotional because it states that he has been working hard and doing what ever he can for it. Lastly Will.i.am used the technique of repetition. For example, he wrote "When you've been fighting for it all your life. You've been struggling to make things right". This is written a few times so that he can get his message across. He does this so that he can say that their are families in the world that are doing their very best to make their family feel happy, even though they can't do much about it. Also it makes us aware that there are people in the world that are uneducated and live in some of the harshest conditions.

In the song Superheroes written by Will.I.am one of the main poetic techniques used is Metaphor. An example of the use of metaphor is the line "a heart of steel starts to grow" this tells the reader that a person has a very strong heart because of what they are going through. The girl in the song lives in a small and extremely poor village in south Africa and it shows how she is over coming all the challenges that she faces. Another poetic technique used in the song is repetition, in the song the lines "When you've been fighting for it all your life
You've been struggling to make things right
That's how a superhero learns to fly" are repeated to show that the black African are living a tough life and are "struggling to make things right" "that's how you learn to fly" these line have been repeated a lot of times throughout the song showing that this means that the black Africans are fighting for whats right and what the white Africans have taken away from them, their life their freedom and their education. There is also a pun used in the song "They took away the prophet's dream, For a profit on the street" the

In the song superheroes written by will.i.am. I found three poetic techniques that were used in the song.
the first one which is repetition when will.i.am writes "When you've been fighting for it all your life, you've been struggling to make things right, that's how a superhero learns to fly". Will.i.am repeated this passage a few times in the song to express that people work hard and fight for there family, and do as much as they can to protect and keep their family safe even if there is nothing left to fight for. Will.i.am also used an imaginary technique as he played with words and main sentences which painted a picture in the audience mind an example of this is the lyric's "when you've been fighting for it all your life, you've been struggling to make thing's right, that how a superhero learns to fly". it paints a picture of someone working hard and struggling but still be able to be strong and fly like a superhero. Another technique Will.i.am used was metaphors. He used metaphors in the lyrics "A heart of steel starts to grow". This was used to show that someone with nothing still doesn't give up and their heart is filled with hope. Even though the heart is soft and fragile it shows that even if you have nothing your heart can still be strong and filled with hope. This song was mainly about how white African's took away African American"s dreams so they could have more money and power. But even though The White African's had taken away most of their happiness they still got through it and stayed strong and hopeful for themselves and their family's and they never gave up.

One of the most frequently used poetic techniques in the song ´Superheros´ is emotive words. For example in the 3 paragraph the line says ¨ All the kicks and all the blows, He won't ever let it show¨ Will.I.Am is trying to show/tell us that the man is doing all the dirty work, cleaning up the rubbish as you can see he doesn't like what he is doing but for the sake of his child he won't ever show her that, He wants her to think that he is a business man and he has education so she doesn't drop out of school and become like him.
Another poetic technique Will.I.Am used was a repetition, When you've been fighting for it all your life, You've been struggling to make things right, That's how a superhero learns to fly. He tried to put that in head to make us realise what is going on. For example, like all these struggles, they go through, trying to leave their town to have a better life.
Lastly, Will.I.Am used a metaphor. The line says “now she's stronger than you know a heart of steel starts to grow” He is trying to tell us that the father and the daughter were brought up in a not so safe environment, so they start to build a wall of steel around their hearts to try and block the pain that they have to face every day

One example of this in the lyrics was "a heart of steel starts to grow" the writer is telling us how hard it was for Africans-Americans to live in hard ship in a really poor village, but they still never have up. Another technique that Will.i.am used was repetition "when you've been fighting for it all your life, when you've been working every day and night, that's how a super hero learns to fly" he is trying to tell us that he has been struggling for all of his life but he still stays happy for his daughter no matter what happens.

A poetic technique used in the song superheroes was a metaphor. A metaphor was used in the 6th line when the lyrics said 'a heart of steel starts to grow'. This is trying to say that the man was weak and struggling to live his life but he doesn't give up and starts to grow stronger. Another technique that Will.I.Am ( the writer's name ) used was a rhyme. A rhyme was used a lot throughout the song. An example of a time when a rhyme was used was in line 7 to line 10: 'All his life he's been told, He'll be nothing when he's old. All the kicks and all the blows, He won't ever let it show'. The ending word of each line rhymes with the next. The lyrics in this section ( line 7 to line 10 ) had a meaning that, because the man was poor, everyone told him that his job is to pick up rubbish, clean the toilets, etc, and that he will continue to do this until he is older, but he didn't let the fact that he was working hard and struggling as a poor person show to others and his daughter. The third poetic technique that Will.I.Am used was imagery. This was used during line 43 when the lyrics said: 'She's got lions in her heart'. This shows that the man was having a hard time but he kept staying strong as though he has lions in his heart.

The effect of repeating the line, meant that the listener understand that that African-American’s had to turn the pain that they endured, into their will to make something of themselves. The pain became their power, motivation for a better career for their children and for their family. One more technique Will.I.Am had used was emotive words

They've been working all their life to earn the respect that they should've received ages ago.
The last poetic technique that I will state would be repetition, an example of that is " When you've fighting for it all your life
You've been working every day and night
That's a how a superhero learns to fly " This shows that a person can achieve anything in life if they try and give it all. You have to fall before you fly.

In the song Superheroes one of the poetic techniques i found was metaphors, Will.i.am used metaphors to show a comparison of two things but one thing is said to actually be another. For example in 6th line in the song it said "A heart of steel starts to grow". This means that a heart that is small and fragile can be as strong as steel. Will.i.am used this metaphor to show if you have nothing you in your life you still have a strong heart. The second poetic technique i found was rhyme, it said " All the kicks and all the blows
He won't ever let it show" this means that everything Will.i.am has been through he will not show. For example he did not show his daughter that he didn't go to school by wearing formal clothes to work. This means that he wants his daughter to not end up like him with not education and end up finding digging for rubbish. The third poetic technique i found was Emotive words in the song it said "(Every day, every hour, turn that pain into power)". This means that every day of his life all the pain he feels wether it is physical or emotional he turns it into power so he can get stronger. For example if you are scared of something you turn your fear into power. Will.i.am used emotive words to show if you are feeling pain/fear you can turn it into power and get stronger for his daughter.

Another poetic technique Will.I.Am used was imagery for example, “Every day, every hour, turn that pain into power”. He played with words and made it into a sentence so when audience hear or read the sentence they automatically have a picture in their mind showing “Every day, every hour, turn that pain into power”. Lastly Will.I.Am used repetition for example, “That's how a superhero learns to fly”. He repeated to make the idea clearer for the audience.

The pain became their motivation, power, and determination for a better life for them and their children. One other poetic technique Wili.I.Am used was emotive words.

Will.i.am. He was a powerful rapper, singer and captured the thoughts of many every time he released a song. One of the many songs he has written was a song called 'Superheroes'. The song was meaning to show the life of a father, wanting to give his daughter hope that she will have a good future, as he wears a suit before he heads off to work. The unfortunate truth is, this lovable father is hiding a secret from his daughter. This secret, is that he doesn't actually have a good well paid job, in fact as soon as he arrives at work, he takes off his suit and gets ready to pick up rubbish. He picks up rubbish for a living, trying to find as much valuable things as he could.

In the song 'Superheroes', there were many uses of poetic techniques in the text. One of the most frequently used techniques, were metaphors. A metaphor is a type of poetic technique that describes an object of some sort, meaning to symbolize and represent something else. An example of a metaphor used in the text was the song line 'A heart of steal starts to grow'. This shows that one word, (in this case heart), is being used in another matter to symbolize and represent something meaningful in the text. This means that this girl's heart, is becoming more stronger and more powerful than you may think.

A poetic technique that was used in the song “Superheroes” sang by "The Script" and written by Will.i.am, were metaphors. An example would be in verse 11 and 12 “Cause he’s stronger than you know” “A heart of steel starts to grow” it’s a metaphor because it describes a living object with an non living object, meaning that it can’t be applicable in real life. Will.i.am used this metaphor to show that no matter what the father's heart will remain strong on the outside but weak on the inside. In another two verse(5 and 6 "Now she's stronger than you know" "A heart of steel starts to grow") It tells us about the girl's heart growing strong because of his father. Another technique used is called repetition Will.i.am used this technique to remind us about the hardships of African-Americans and also to give us a clear idea of what the story/meaning is behind this song, these lyrics were; “A heart of steel starts to grow”, “That’s how a superhero learns to fly”, "He's been fighting for it all his life", "You've been struggling to make things right". Another poetic technique used was a rhyme in verse 9 and 10 “All the kicks and the blows” “He won’t ever let it show” Will.i.am wrote these to lyrics to tell us all the hardship the father has been through, finding treasure in that garbage dump and pretending to be OK and happy when his daughter shows up, he doesn’t want his daughter to quit school because he was not a businessman but a man working at a garbage dump and also wants her daughter to feel proud that his father is a well paid businessman.

In the short text- superheroes, the author uses a metaphor to compare a Great leader to a superhero. This metaphor highlights the dads heroism and gives away what the poem maybe about by creating a fictional image in the reader's mind. When the scripts says “all her life she has seen, All the meanest side of me” he refers to her daughter seeing the “best” side of him all her life, the strongest side, and the side which he works hard to prove for his daughter. In lines 3 and 4, the artist uses a pun to express the connection between personal beliefs- “prophets dream” to something on opposite means of it- “ a profit on the street”- which shows the value of money and how that has overcome humanity. By playing with words the artist creates symbolism. When Will-I-Am says “now she's stronger than you know, a Heart of steel starts to grow”, the author is comparing the softest organ in our bodies to the toughest metal there is today. By doing a comparison between these two most conflicting nouns, the author deliberately creates emotion among the reader. From line 7 to 10, when he states -”he won’t ever let it show”, The artist is expressing the strength and quality of leadership held with in whom who the Text is written upon, it shows that he has to stay strong and conceal his weaknesses for the sake of his daughter. Then in line 15- “that's when a superhero learns to fight”, it compares a superheroes ability to fight back and how hard he fights and the struggles he goes through trying to get things right. This comparison shows how he has made the best of his struggles and adjusted himself and is now on the path where he feels he is right.. Will-I-Am then goes on and uses repetition to create a flow of rhythm upon the text.

The title itself says a lot Superhero is someone who is fighting for his rights and not giving up no matter how much tough and rough is his/her life in this short text Will.i.am is referring to little child’s Dad. this can be consider as Irony.

In line 1 and 2 it says All her life she has seen All the meanest side me. This refers to his Daughter experience which sees him not in good state of condition.. They took away the prophet's dream For a profit on the street. The writer plays with words to display multiple meaning of these lines. Prophet is the god he is talking. The dream was to consider everyone equal regardless of their colour, religion, culture or gender. The writer is trying to show that they disobeyed God’s message and started to discriminate people especially of Black color by doing this they are having profit. This can be considered as an example of a Pun. Now she is stronger than you know, A heart of steel starts to grow is an example of metaphor in which writer shows that because of so much discrimination that is being done she is getting growing and getting more stronger. The writer gave an example of metaphor when he wrote A heart of steel starts to grow this describes that a heart is the most sensitive part of the body and because of this injustice the heart is getting tougher and stronger as a steel. All his life he's been told He'll be nothing when he's old All the kicks and all the blows He won't ever let it show. This can be an example of Assonance the writer is trying to tell the viewers that because of the colour the blacks are not allowed to have education and are more into slave work. His hardships , the ups and down he doesn't show on his face but it is somewhere deep in his soul. 'Cause he's stronger than you know A heart of steel starts to grow. This line refers to his Dad being strong and tough as time flies. Then there is repetition it is there to show the growth of a superhero (his dad) by turning the hard work into his strength. When you've fighting for it all your life You've been working every day and night That's how a superhero learns to fly (Every day, every hour, turn that pain into power). This is describing the person can conquer anything if they overcome the challenges which is being pushed in the way, All the hurt, all the lies, All the tears that they cry, When the moment is just right You'll see fire in their eyes 'Cause he's stronger than you know

A heart of steel starts to grow. This stanza is trying to describe that whole race have experience things like lies, tears, disappointment, they will overcome this by waiting for the right moment. You will see fire in their eyes this is an example of metaphor. This describes that because of the torture and injustice they have experienced when the right time comes you will see them explode like a volcano. There is a repetition of stanza. Then consonance comes in the word Power this describes the ability to cope with injustice and hardships is making him more powerful and strong.

A poetic technique used in the song ‘Superheroes’ is metaphor. An example of this were the lines “ All her life she has seen, all the meanest side of me”. This line talks about his daughter and how his daughter has been seeing the grumpy side of him. He is grumpy because his job is to provide his daughter with all the basic needs, food, water, money, but he could not and has a hard time getting money to provide them.

Will.i.am used a pun in the song when he said “ They took away the prophet’s dream for a profit on the street”.

The songwriter of “superheroes” Will.i.am, plays around with the words he used in this song, that creates and distributes a message to us. One of the common poetic techniques he used was metaphor, example of this would be “ a heart of steel starts to grow”, which he is trying to say that this person had suffered horrible stuff which made his/ her heart like a steel becoming stronger and stronger, when actually our heart are the most vulnerable and fragile organ. Another poetic technique he used in the song is hyperbole, “ she’s got lions in her heart” it is describing that her heart is now strong like a lion but by exaggerating that there is a lion living inside of her. The third poetic technique is puns, “ they took away the prophet’s dream, for profit on the street” which defines the puns are ‘ prophets’ and ‘profit’. Will.i.am is trying to explain that the whites went against God’s dream which was every one is living the equally the same, no matter who you are, but because their greed‘s for money and they took away the rights of the blacks.

The song “superheroes” supports the message of how a man who lives in poverty by owning nothing, has been fighting all his life and working day and night, just to provide everything, for his child's benefits. The title of the song “superheroes” defines the father, who is the ‘great champion that does everything he can for his beloved child. One example of a poetic technique that is presented in the song is a “metaphor”. For instance, when he sings “cause he’s stronger than you know, a heart of steel starts to grow”. These 2 lines are used to show the comparison between a ‘heart and steel’, because the heart is one of the weakest organs, whereas steel is a very strong substance. Another example of poetic techniques are showcased in the lines: “When you’ve been fighting for it all your lives, when you’ve been struggling to make things right, that’s how a superhero learns to fly”. These three lines have a ‘repetition’, which display the main idea more evidently of working hard. Those 3 lines are also included in the chorus of the song, of which defines individuals working hard, and how it links back to being referred as a superhero. The lines send us a message that to be a hero, you don’t have to be strong and tough, but rather it depends on whether you’re working and struggling hard, to maintain prosperity and benefits to others. We can also tell that Will.I.am is different because even though he knows he is poor, he leaves his home in a suit & tie, just to protect his child’s sense of dignity.

"A heart of steel starts to grow" which is a metaphor. Heart of steel means his heart is really strong on the inside, and steel is a strong material. Thats why the writer uses the word steel. Also with the line "They took away the prophet's dream
for a profit on the street" is a pun. This means the white went against gods dream for everyone to be level and equal, by making themselves to bigger and better then the blacks, and in turn kept money for themselves.

One instance of a metaphor “A heart of steel starts to grow”, this implies that either the Father or the daughter has a strong heart to represent all the struggles and hardship that person has been through. Since the heart is a fragile organ and steel is quite a strong and hard material which is made to support a heavy load. He also uses the same line in repetition in the song to continue to imply the message. This technique alone shows the complexity and talent of the artist.

In this short text this artist talks to us about the father in the video and how he is fighting for his rights and dignity. The title shows us irony, by saying superheros, this text is actually talking about the father and how he tries to do everything in his power to make his daughter happy. Another part of this short text, the artist talks to us about how God’s dream was for everyone to be equal and how they took that away for profit meaning money. This meant the whites took away that dream by not letting everyone be equal and by making themselves more relevant than the blacks. That particular text, the artist skillfully plays around with these words to display what that father does and how he is the real superhero, “when you’ve been fighting for it all your life, You’ve been struggling to make things right, That’s how a superhero learns to fly”. Will.i.am does this to indicate that he has been fighting all his life, That verse talks about his daughter how he was the real superhero because although he faced all kinds of problems, he managed to give everything he had to her.

The writer of Superheroes Will.i.am delivered the message of a father's love in the lyrics. He put on his camouflage in front his daughter so she wouldn't know his job is a scavenger. All he wants for his daughter is to get good education and a kiss from her everyday after work. A poetic technique used in the lyrics was metaphor. For example, “A heart of steel starts to grow”. The writer referred heart to steel to highlight that the father and the daughter is growing stronger through the tough time of their life. Steel is strong and it’s hard to break it. My idea of this line is heart doesn’t actually refer to the organ but their minds and thoughts, their minds are growing stronger and it’s hard to break them down. The second poetic technique I found is repetition. The lines that’s been repeating are “When you've been fighting for it all your life // You've been struggling to make things right // That's how a superhero learns to fly”. The purpose of these lines is to state the unjust treatment to the black Africans. They try to battle with life to defend their rights. This is what chasten them to make them stronger. Life was hard for them but the Black Africans were brave enough to face it and challenge it. The third poetic technique used in here is pun. An example is that “They took away the prophet's dream // For a profit on the street”. Intentions of the pun used in here also meant the reality of the society. This is still about how Black Africans were treated unfairly by the White Africans. White Africans were suppressing the black Africans and took away their rights and their dreams which is against the god's wish. But this is how they can become superheroes. What made the father a superhero is his love dedicated to his daughter. From this song you can see how the writer Will.I.Am was playing with the words to form this inspiring and motivating song.

A technique he used was the metaphor. An example of the metaphor would be " A heart of steel starts to grow." This means the person is becoming stronger as he faces more problems. It also means that the person is determined. He uses the term steel, it represents all the tough times hes been through, all the wars, all the blood, all made of steel, so it shows that Another technique used was repetition, an example is when he repeated the chorus " When you've been fighting for it all your life" this means Hes fighting to give his daughter the necessities. The last Technique he used was Puns. An example of puns would be " they took away the prophets dream for a profit on the street." This means that god has an equal plan for us to be in good living conditions, But that didn't happen so now they have to live from the materials in the dumpster and in the streets.

The part 'When you've been fighting for it all your life, you've been struggling to make things right, that's a how a superhero learns to fly' was repeated a numerous number of times as this was the main message that the writers of the song wanted to convey. This is the most significant message in the whole song. In this part of the song, the writers are trying to convince the audience that not all superheroes are expected to fly. Superheroes are people that keep fighting and struggling so they are doing the impossible compared to others. The effect this poetic technique had on the audience was the fact that they would remember it. When something gets repeated so many times, it eventually sticks in your head. This is what the writer has aimed to try and create among the people that listen to this song.

In the song Superheros, one of the techniques used is metaphor.A metaphor basically means to make something look weaker or stronger then it literally is.A metaphor in the song is a heart of steel starts to grow what he is trying to say is that a person has a strong heart when a heart is the most frugal part of your body. He also used puns in his song one of these puns he took a prophet dream form a profit on the street which means he took away god's dream for making everyone the same/ equal.

A poetic technique used in the song 'Superheroes' written by Will.I.Am, is a metaphor and repetition. In the sixth line of the song an example of a metaphor could be seen. the line says 'A heart of steel starts to grow'. Will.I.Am played with his words, in this phrase, because the heart is the most vulnerable organ in your body, whereas steel is very strong. By using that phrase, people can see that she has had a hard life and it has really affected her to the point, where she has become much stronger and that nothing can bring her down. In the song 'Superheroes' Will.I.Am also used a pun, in the lines 3-4, by saying, 'They took away the prophet's dream, for a profit on the street'. He is stating that the'Whites' went against God's dream of everyone being equal, and that they are all superior than the blacks.

In these lyrics one of the poetic techniques that was displayed was a metaphor. An example of this would be "a heart of steel" this means that a person is strong to strive in life and become stronger than what they are. Another example of a poetic technique would be repetition, an example of this is "when you've been fighting for it all your life" This displays that to never give up in tough times throughout your lifetime. The last technique was displayed was emotive words, an example for this was " all his life he's been told, he'll be nothing when he's old", This could mean when the person who is singing this, this could mean when he was younger he had been verbally abused but throughout the song it shows that he was still able to succeed or push away the negative thoughts.

The song "Superheroes" written by Will.i.am, uses one of the most common poetic technique called a metaphor, an example of a metaphor used in the song "Superheroes" is "A heart of steel starts to grow". This shows that no matter how small or weak your heart is, it will eventually start to grow bigger and stronger and become as strong as steel but not literally like steel.

Another poetic technique that is used in this song was a metaphor, for example he said she's got lions in her heart, which means she is standing up for freedom. Wil.i.am used a pun in this song. He said “they took away the profits dream, for a profit on the street”. Which means they did not follow gods ways. Now there are south african blacks on the streets trying to make profit or money.

I think he uses the word superhero to say that if a person helps someone they would seem like most fiction superhero's because hero's are always helping. A poetic technique would be repetition. For
instance when he sing the lyrics "when you have been fighting for all your life'' He probably means don't give up and when you do get back up and fight even harder. The last technique might be the emotive that was displayed for instance ''all his life he's been told, he'll be nothing when he's old,'' he might being saying this to point out that growing up he didn't have much support in what he wanted or believed in.
