Claudius was a Roman Emperor from year 41-54 AD (13 years). Before himself Caligula was emperor and after was Nero. He had many wives throughout his reign, but each marriage ended quickly. He also had many children with many different women. He was known to be good with women and his people skills showed through his reign as well.

During his reign he expanded the Roman Empire to include Britain as a province. This act made him extremely popular and well liked. He was so successful in this act that the people of Britannia worshiped him in his own temple. In addition to Britain, he also added Mauretania (North Africa), Thrace (the Balkans) and Lycia (part of Turkey) to the Roman Empire. Another one of his achievements was when he launched the conquest of Britain in 43 AD. This was known as one of the most successful military campaigns of the 1st Century. He sent a force of 40,000 troops and several war elephants across the english channel.

As a ruler he thought the public works were extremely important. Therefore during his reign he installed two aquaeducts and many roads and canals through Italy.

Claudius was born as the son of Nero Claudius Drusus, a successful Roman General. But his father died when he was just a baby. This led him to be raised by his mother. He grew up quite clumsy and slightly deaf, although he was extremely intelligent. His uncle, Tiberius was an emporer but would never let Claudius have anything to do with the Roman Republic because of his handicaps. Eventually Tiberius died and after Caligula took his place as emperor. Caligula liked Claudius and assigned him as co-consul, but eventually Claudius completely took over.

Claudius reign was extremely successful much like his father as a general. Claudius' 4th and last marriage to Agrippina is basically the cause of his death. It is believed Agrippina poisoned Claudius. He died the morning of October 13th, 54 AD.

We think that Claudius was a very good ruler. The reason we think this is because he made on of the most successful military campaigns of the 1st century. He was also a very smart man and lead the Roman emperor to many things. Also he lead his 40,000 troops across the English channel which is a very big accomplishment. He aleo conquered a lot of land for the Roman people. They all loved him because of all he did for them. So we also think that he was one of Romans best emperors.
