I think that being more organized would help me visualize what things I will be coming head to head with in the near future and it may help me be more successful in things.
I also need to work on being more social even when it comes to doing things online, especially in the classroom setting.

One area that I would like to really focus on this semester is procrastination. I tend to struggle with procrastination and it puts a strain on me and my work. To build my skill, I think I could set a more strict schedule for myself to get assignments completed earlier than they are due. When doing this, I will then have more available time for my personal life responsibilities and I can have extra study time for my classes.

One area I want to focus this semester would be time management having time for my study time and setting time for myself. I can build this skill by planning in time my schedule and processing a list of what I'm doing or what I plan to do during the week. I think I will succeed this semester while working and planning my goals to pass my classes for this semester. A way I'm working in this skill is writing down what I do during the day and set a timer for how many hours of free time and study time i have. -VERONICA T.

Although, I tried improving in time managing before the classes started, I still have so much to improve. I already made a schedule, and set timers and reminders about my classes, chores and activities (scheduling my activities has helped me a lot with my history of procrastination). The only thing that is on my way to accomplish it is that I get distracted a lot and overwhelmed by things I should not be thinking about on school time. Hopefully, I'll improve my studying environment and be able to complete school work more efficiently. -Yumiko Ruiz

After taking the assessment, I feel like I would greatly benefit from working on my team skills. I am organized, methodical and a little bit controlling. I don't typically like spontaneity or disorganization. Working with others, especially those who are not as organized and methodical as I am, is difficult. The best way to work though this is working with others, releasing that control. Hopefully, a patient group, while I work through the growing pains. - Hayley A.

I scored an extremely low 15% on the Information Literacy and Communication area. I always new I was more "street smarts" than "book smarts" and that number was just confirmation. When I turned forty last year, I had a little "crisis" in the area of not feeling like I have tapped into my full potential. I started applying for higher up positions but was not getting them even though I had the experience in all categories needed. I learned I was missing terminology in my career life and that is why I decided to go back to college. Doing that is how I am going to overcome this area of my skill set. Taking these classes seriously and doing my best to retain everything is going to give me the confidence to apply for that job I really want one day. I have great communications skills in real face to face life but I want to and need to getter better with paper communication in the workforce.

I usually tend to zone out at times when I've been looking at something and it happens often when I'm reading, therefore, I have to re-read the passage over again until I stop zoning out and realize what's going on.

After taking the ACES test, I've learned that I need to focus on improving my study skills/habits. I tend to study last minute, and I've learned that this leads me to be less successful. I also tend to focus on the wrong information. I must learn to differentiate between what is important information in the unit vs. what isn't. I think my best approach to accomplishing this goal would be to try different study tactics, like straight studying the textbook. Then subsequently taking a mock quiz/test, and seeing the differing results. I've already started this process, beginning with study straight from the textbook.
-Kaden K.

Hi I’m Annalise. I guess the major thing I truly want to work on this semester is my procrastination and time management. I have such a hard time some times kayaking my time between school work and family. This where the procrastination comes into play because sometimes I wait to the last minute on things that I know are due later in the week. I also would like to work on my organizational skills. They are there too a point until things look like a tornado came through. I hope through this semester that I can build and improve my skills by better focusing on them. Not waiting until the end of the week, sit back and focus on one group (work, school, family, etc) and try not to juggle all of them at once.

Annalise

After evaluating my ACES scores, I believe working on my time management/organization would be most beneficial. As I thought about how I could improve my other skills I scored low on, I realized they all tied back to time management/ organization in some way. A well thought-out schedule to actively follow is a much needed foundation in order to stay successful. To improve this skill, I’ve begun a planner and break down assignments into smaller pieces to get things done in a more timely manner. I constantly write myself reminders and small schedules to try to stay on the plan I set myself each week.
-Jessica F

One area I need to focus on this semester is my time management. I tend to procrastinate far too much and typically do not spend my time wisely. I can improve my time management by pretty much getting my priorities in order. It is quite simple but I honestly often find myself struggling to find interest and motivation to complete my assignments. I only have one in person course, but the rest are online. I feel as though I am more involved in my in person course.
- Solana P.

One area I would like to focus on would be procrastination. I am really good at doing things I want to do more man things I need to do. I have a lot of different actives put I need to work on my proity ones first. For example I procrastinate to clean my room until my parents say, "if your room is not Clean by the end of the day your friends can't come over." So I need to work on my time management to help work on my procrastination.

-Kenna P.

One of my main areas that I would like to work on is on my time management. I tend to be really busy all day and night. Even though I work nights, sometimes I have to stay at work due to the overwhelming tasks and issues that come up throughout the night. With all that in mind, I rarely have a chance to work on my college assignments throughout the week and spend my weekends doing it. I would build my skill by having a set time to leave work and sleep enough to get started on my homework during the work week. Also, I would have to actually stick with it even if the night at work went sideways. I haven't learned yet that it is okay to let dayshift finish solving the issues on their own just as long as they are well informed about it. - Ricardo

Learning from my Academic and Career Excellence System assessment, one area I could benefit from improving is increasing motivation. The ACES Inventory (Initial Report) suggests providing small rewards for finishing mundane tasks. I have noticed that I usually need the motivation to do assignments I am worried about or do not fully understand, rather than the task being boring. I could improve by tackling the assignment before I overthink it. I could also re-word instructions for better understanding. I could also ask my instructor to explain things I do not understand.
-Shawna

Something I'd really like to improve on is my organization. I feel like I'm a really disorganized person in some aspects of my life and it can make certain things more difficult than they need to be. I think If I can find a way to more productively organize my studying, study area, and even my ideas for assignments, doing school work would be less of a pain.
- Mia Smith

One of the areas I have found to fall short in is having the motivation to get my work done on a fixed schedule, which has caused me to procrastinate quite a bit. This course has shown me that I need to practice skills to increase my self-efficacy. One strategy I have been trying to implement to offset my tendency to procrastinate is making a schedule that doesn't require too much time. I have divided my work into small sections I can do daily without taking too much time or effort, which has had good results so far. One useful thought I've discovered is "thirty minutes or an hour goes by quickly when I work and isn't much." - Emily

Being online can be so distracting and i tend to get off track a lot. I think that a good way to help my distractions is turn off my phone and go somewhere where its quiet and do work.
