Balinese dance uses mimicry and eye movements to show expression. The energetic eye movements are unique to Balinese dance. The dances are dynamic in nature and usually paired with music of the Balinese gamelan which is full of force and power. Each movement keeps in rhythm with the beating of the gamelan. The legs are usually in an open and low position, even to the point of squatting; however, sometimes the legs are straight. The arms are open and slightly lifted to make the shoulders appear to be lifted as well.

Bharatanatyam is geometric and unique dance style that is precise and balanced. It's basic postures and movements has a lot of geometry. The basic postures center the dancer's weight of gravity and has little movements that put the dancer off balance. The dance contains rhythmic stamping of the feet, jumps, pirouettes and positions with the knees connecting with the floor. The stance is usually positioned with the knees bent and turned out. An expert dancer would be able to make the movements flow together elegantly and compliment them with eye movements. Every part of the body is used in the dance with classifications and definitions.
