Teen crime is a topic that is not as revisited by society. There are everyday internal and external factors that influence these actions from teenagers. Most of these internal influences are mental disorders/ illnesses such as anger issues, depression, BPD, etc. Additionally, the fact that a teenager's brain is not fully developed is also the biggest factor that shapes teenager's actions. The prefrontal cortex is the part of the brain in teenager’s that is not fully developed. The function of this part of the brain regulates actions, thoughts, emotions and decision making. External factors being the people they surround themselves with, family problems and drugs. The behavior of students during this developing stage has a long-term effect on a teenager’s behavior and future. This paper will give information about how to maintain a garden while also giving information on how to raise chickens from using recycled materials or bought materials to make garden beds and chicken coops for self sustainability. The goal of this project is to ensure that poverty ridden areas are capable of being sustainable through cheap and recycled methods of growing crops. This relates to the “No Poverty” SDG goal that we are working hard to accomplish. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis(ALS) or better known as Lou Gehrig's disease is a nervous system disease that weakens muscles and impacts physical function In this disease the nerve cells stop functioning which in turn weakens our use of our muscles. Once we stop using our muscles we lose muscle mass and slowly our muscles soon become stiff and are no longer functional.

Lou Gehrig's disease is very rare around 20,000 thousand people are diagnosed yearly in the US with this in mind finding help, from the general public and even medical professionals is very difficult. It takes multiple trips from doctor to doctor, exam after exam, and multiple different diagnosis that are incorrect.

I chose this topic due to the fact that my grandpa was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease and passed away due to this disease, and throughout the process of him getting diagnosed it was a lot of trips to multiple doctors and when the time came when he was diagnosed we had to see a variety of EMT'S/ Paramedics for transportation to appointments and almost all of them had no clue about ALS and my family and I had to go into detail on what it is, and how to care and handle my grandfather.

Political Engagement Within Social Media and Youth Voter Turnout

Within the discussion of what the future of politics may look like, young people are at the forefront of this conversation. The lack of participation has been apparent and is nothing new since the late 1960’s, yet in recent years this issue has become more relevant. According to the U.S Census Bureau, ages 18-24 have been recorded throughout the years 1968-2020 and showed that around 50% and lower of youth voters have participated (U.S Census Bureau). Hence, the reason why this topic is becoming more highlighted today is because the numbers never seem to advance at the 50% mark. Because of the indirect causation, there is not one immediate association as to what makes youth voters so hesitant or unbothered about their decision to vote. Unlike traditional media, it does not have the efficiency to reach a multitude of audiences or even grasp the attention of others to even care, especially in today’s age. Due to the rise of phones and the popular social media apps such as Instagram, X (formally known as Twitter), Reddit, Facebook, and now TikTok, it is much more competitive to capture the attention of a multitude of people. To follow that, it is expressed, “The increasing importance of political spectacularization has led to alternative forms of political participation for audiences who were previously almost impossible to reach. Caring for our Furry Friends

Stray animals are in danger as they are not vaccinated and can contract deadly diseases and infections. Along with over reproduction which exceeds the number of stray each time and can be deadly to female dogs and cats as they are constantly getting pregnant and giving birth because they are not protected. Animals in shelters also face a negative impact as they have a hold and if they are not adopted or fostered before their deadline they will be euthanized. Not to mention that animals in shelters can be mentally impacted as they can develop anxiety for being in a cage for too long and as more and more animals are brought to a shelter they will exceed their maximum capacity and can run low in resources. The major problem that I happen to be talking about is the sleepiness and drowsiness that affects most students and experts have shown that it affects students in many different ways. It could affect their growth, their mind, and their grades. As said by the peer review paper “Effects of school start time on students’ sleep duration, daytime sleepiness, and attendance: a meta-analysis” by the authors Jennifer M. Bowers and Anne Moyer who are both researchers in universities say “Lack of sleep is a predictor of a number of consequences, including issues at school such as sleepiness and tardiness.” (Bowers, Moyer 2017) This goes to show that sleep deprivation is not good for students because it affects them in many different ways with sleepiness at school being one of the most major ones and because of this students are not able to fully grasp what is going on in their class and what their teachers are trying to teach them. Bowers and Moyer also explain the causes by writing “Research conducted over the past three decades finds that many children and adolescents do not meet recommended sleep guidelines.” (Bower, Moyer,2017) This shows that students are not meeting the requirements of sleep which doctors recommend which are usually 8 hours give or take and because of this students can’t focus in school. But why exactly can’t students get the necessary sleep that they are needing? There can be many reasons, reasons that can’t be avoided or reasons that can be but are not taking the right measures. Some of the problems were investigated by Leon C. Lack in his article

“Delayed Sleep and Sleep Loss in University Students”. He states “The most commonly reported sleeping difficulty of this population was frequent difficulty in falling asleep (18%), whereas only 9% of the sample had frequent difficulty staying asleep.” (Lack, 1986) This shows that there are many different problems and that there is more than one solution but

solutions need to help most to be considered effective. One of the solutions that both Bower and Moyer stated were “Results indicated that later starting school times are associated with

longer sleep durations. Additionally, later start times were associated with less daytime sleepiness (7 studies) and tardiness to school (3 studies).” (Bower, Moyer, 2017) They surveyed the schools and it showed that maybe if school was to start later on students would be able to sleep longer and learn more efficiently in the classes rather than starting so early.

One of the solutions that people think is to drink energy drinks but the studies of the article “High stress, lack of sleep, low school performance, and suicide attempts are associated with high energy drink intake in adolescents” by So Young Kim, Songyong Sim, Hyo Guen Choi, all esteemed brain surgeons contradicted this false thinking. They write “Higher stress levels, lack of sleep, and low school performance were significantly associated with suicide attempts (each P < 0.001). These variables of high stress level, abnormal sleep time, and low school

performance were also proportionally related with higher energy drink intake (P < 0.001).”

Why is uterine cancer not talked about enough? Clearly, it is a huge problem, with many women being affected to the point where it is possible for them to lose their lives. When thinking about cancer, people often believe there is no way out and that it marks the end of everything, that their lives are over. However, if found early enough, uterine cancer can be treated effectively. This is why bringing attention to the issue will encourage women to get tested. For example, temperament is based on heritable traits and it is a huge part of a human’s personality. However, the environment is just as important if not more. A research done by Minnesota’s Center for Twin and Adoption Research studied the effects of identical twins raised together or separately. Now in today's society fast food places are easily accessible to adolescents mainly because it is something quick and easy to get without going through the trouble of cooking. Some young adults know how to cook but the majority does not. It may not be entirely their fault because no one took their time teaching while growing up or they did not have anyone to do so. In any case, it could lead to a serious dilemma because the majority that does not know how to cook would not know how to balance their meals. That is why there should be a mandatory cooking class in high school that should mainly target the seniors because they will be the ones to go into the real world since most would be attending college.

I came up with questions on a google form that focused on if they know how to balance their meals, if they consume it, and if it would be difficult to learn how to cook etc. I would be conducting two interviews. The first one would be to a nutritionist Armando Sanchez and the second one would be a college student Myla Elizondo that attends Texas A&M in Kingsville, Tx.

The results that I had gotten on my survey was that most of my peers do not know how to cook but they know what they have to consume on the daily basis so if they were taught and demonstrated recipes, they would most likely to make it on their own since they already got the feel of how to make it.

For this reason I created a mini cookbook with the help of a nutritionist. The cookbook consists of healthy foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the food pyramid. It also contains how many calories and protein each meal has.

With the help of extensive research and the evidence of several articles, this project shows how the wellness of birds is negatively affected by numerous human-driven issues such as deforestation, climate change, plastic pollution, and the misidentification of the birds in need of assistance and the ones that do not. This project reveals how negatively impactful human driven activities decrease the quality of life of birds. This leads to the following questions : How can I get my community to gain more knowledge about how to protect the wellness of birds? How can the T-stem community as well as the RGV community improve the wellbeing of birds and protect them from factors that put them at risk such as deforestation, climate change, plastic pollution, and misidentification of the birds that need help and the ones that don’t ? A survey and an interview were conducted with the purpose of understanding the level of knowledge the T-stem community has about birds and to better understand which are the human-driven threats birds face and what we can do to greatly minimize them. Findings showed that the community is averagely knowledgeable about the threats birds face and what they can do to help. For this reason, my products were the following: We built birdhouses, planted shrubs and plants, created two youtube videos talking about the difference in characteristics of nestlings and adult birds and the effects that climate change have on birds and ways to slow down the progression, repurposed plastic by building a chair out of used water bottles, and recycled used paper.

The elderly are facing abuse everyday, and I wanted to do something to help as much of them as i could. I first wanted to bring some awareness and I also wanted to know how much the community knew about elder abuse, so I created a google form and sent it out to the RGV community. I also wanted to gather donations from students and staff from PSJA Thomas Jefferson T-STEM ECHS. To make this posible I created a flyer informing people that I was collecting donations and I put them up all over my school. The donations I collected were all given to a nursing home in Alamo TX called “The Heights of Alamo”. I also gathered a group of volunteers and went to spend some time with the residents. Veterinary Ethics is the morals of animal activists on what they believe is right and wrong when having animals in captivity. My project dives into the cruel reality of how the animal entertainment industry takes advantage of these animals in ways that give them heavy physical and mental strain. I've wanted to raise awareness of this topic since I found out about the truth on why Tilikum the orca killed his trainer, Dawn Brancheau. This all ties in with SeaWorld's unethical care for the animals that goes into the following: starving the animals if they do not perform, underfeeding them even if they comply, giving them a tank that is compared to a bathtub for a human, and making them breed in captivity to have their calves perform till death. The purpose of my Capstone project is to raise the amount of students that visit the school pond during lunch hours or free blocks. As I have recorded, very few students visit the school pond on a regular day to day basis; as few as 5 students actually sat by the pond when I researched during A-lunch. My Capstone Project seeks to understand why students aren't visiting the school pond and bring more attention to it by innovating its surroundings. After collecting and analyzing my research, I plan to build a wooden bridge that will be accessible to students during lunch break. It will go over the pond to act as a pedestrian bridge. Creating this bridge will make the pond more attractive and encourage students to visit the pond more often. T-STEM "Gutter System" problems

The beginning of the project I was researching the problem about how the sidewalk safety of the T-STEM drop off. I did a google form in order to find if other people experienced the problem. I got back that the majority of people did experience the problem and went on to my next step, which was find specifications and prices for the concepts. I drew up 3 concepts and decided on concept 1. It used underground PVC pipes that were connected to metal grates on the sidewalk. It is going to connect to the pre-existing drainage hole. In conclusion this design is suppose to solve this problem efficiently and provide a cheaper alternative to other drainage solutions.

Before I had this idea I owned an Before I had this idea I owned an aquarium. It was my second aquarium and I still had no clue how to take care of it and the fishes. I was clueless to the aquarium hobby and I wanted to become more knowledgeable on the topic so I did research and even observed the fishes. The research and observations helped me better understand the aquarium and fish needs. It was a long process but I eventually reached a satisfying point. Now in present day, I came up with a product, a head-start to the aquarium hobby so beginning aquarium hobbyists don't have to stress or take lots of time to understand aquariums and fish.
