General Zaroff in “The Most Dangerous Game” is an excellent example of the characteristic intelligence in characters. This is shown in the beginning when General Zaroff meets Rainsford. “-and for a time commanded a division of cossack cavalry” (pg. 39). The quote is supporting in his intelligence of military knowledge and prowess. A divsision is a section of a army with specialized forces. The quote proves General Zaroff had the capability to lead one. Backing this up his is title of “General” mentioned throughout the story.

Later on in the story General Zaroff intelligence is shown again in a conversation with Rainsford. It begins when Zaroff recognizes who Rainsford is and begins to talk about himself. ““No animal had a chance with me any more. That is no boast; it is a mathematical certainty. The animal had nothing but his legs and his instinct. Instinct is no match for reason. When I thought of this it was a tragic moment for me, I can tell you."” (pg. 40). In the quote Zaroff is outright boasting about his superior intelligence by outright complaining about animals. He says animals are no longer fun to hunt, as Zaroff as outsmarted them time and time again. He goes on to say he is disappointed and leans into later on about how he hunts new game.

A third example of intelligence shown from General Zaroff is use for malicious reasons and pure evil. From different standpoints. Rainsford and Zaroff continued the hunt on game, and Zaroff brought up the subject on how he hunts human. “The general's left eyelid fluttered down in a wink. "This island is called Ship Trap," he answered. "Sometimes an angry god of the high seas sends them to me. Sometimes, when Providence is not so kind, I help Providence a bit. Come to the window with me."” (Pg. 42). Within the quote Zaroff demonstrates intelligence again by showing how he thought of an idea to strand humans on his island to hunt. It is demonstrated as he talks how he set up a lighthouse to direct ships into a wall of rocks. There they swim to land, where Zaroff catches them and hunts them.

Intelligence at chaminade has many uses. One of them is obvious and very helpful, when students are taking tests. An example is say before a math test. A student with intelligence or knowledge on the subject is more likely to get a higher grade than a student who doesn’t have intelligence or knowledge of the subject.

Or he may be confused by how we speak today with little to no care for our syntax.
