The Berlin airlift

At the beginning of the operation, the planes delivered about 5,000 tons of supplies to West Berlin every day; by the end, those loads had increased to about 8,000 tons of supplies per day. The Allies carried about 2.3 million tons of cargo in all over the course of the airlift. For 18 months, American and British aircrews literally flew around-the-clock bringing coal, food, medicine, and all of the other necessities of life to the 2 million inhabitants of war-ravaged West Berlin.

Ruby Bridges

The school district created entrance exams for African American students to see whether they could compete academically at the all-white school. Ruby and five other students passed the exam. Her father resisted, fearing for his daughter’s safety; her mother, however, wanted Ruby to have the educational opportunities that her parents had been denied. They finally decided to let her go to the school. Everyday Ruby and her mom were escorted by four federal marshals to the school every day that year. The Bridges family suffered for their courage: Abon lost his job, and grocery stores refused to sell to Lucille. Her share-cropping grandparents were evicted from the farm where they had lived for a quarter-century.
"A lifelong activist for racial equality, in 1999, Ruby established The Ruby Bridges Foundation to promote tolerance and create change through education. In 2000, she was made an honorary deputy marshal in a ceremony in Washington, DC."

The green book is a book for black people where it tells you where a place that people welcome you is all over the country, so you could look up "hotels in Alabama" and you could look through and find the closest hotel in Alabama for blacks. African Americans had to use the book because they weren't welcome in almost every restaurant, hotel, gas station, and etc that was run by white people.

In the movie "The Children's March" colored kids from all over the state came in to help fight for black rights by getting arrested and not fight back. The kids protested everyday for a week by sitting in a church and going out 50 at a time then getting arrested, and they looked happy through the entire process, they even started singing sometimes. The police used fire hoses and police dogs to fight the kids and yet the kids just stayed dancing and singing being peaceful while the police were using violence. It eventually ended because President Kennedy got news that the kids were protesting peacefully for black rights but the police were using violence against them so he decided to finally declare black rights all over the country.
