    • WHAT (Content and Sources): Does the content of the information sound calm and professional or emotional and upset? Does the information have facts from experts? Does the article list its sources?

    • WHY (Purpose): Does this information seem to have been shared to (P.I.E.S) PERSUADE (opinion), INFORM (facts), ENTERTAIN (emotion/fun/artistic), or SHOCK (scare, threaten, confuse, surprise) you?

  • As you research, you should always track the bibliographic information of the sources from which you find information in a research journal.  
  • You must paraphrase the information in each source that supports your thesis.  
  • You must also select and record direct quotes from your sources that help to prove your thesis assertion. 
  • This notation will help you to construct a rough draft of your paper and prevent you from losing source information.
