Name is a very social student, and has shown that he/she is able to take responsibility for his/her own actions and is able to manage and resolve conflict fairly. In order for Name to see more success in PE and achieve his/her potential he/she needs to continue to develop his/her self management skills, by ensuring he/she is on time and organized for the lesson. This includes having hair tied back, all jewelry off and no chewing gum.

This term, students have explored net/wall game and invasion games. Our assessments measured several skills, such as strategy, tactics and rules and etiquette. Name is an able and talented performer when he/she applies him/herself. Unfortunately, he/she showed little determination to improve in the beginning of semester one, but produced some work at the end of the semester. Name regularly demonstrates his/her ability to meet expectations while working with others, by collaborating well with others, and often demonstrates empathy towards others in order to help them succeed. Moving forward Name would greatly benefit by developing his/her communication skills further. This would allow Name to see more success in team based activities, by developing a range of positive communication strategies. I would also encourage name to use the resources available on google classroom to develop his/her skills outside of PE, to see faster success in our units to come. Come on Name, you can do it!

Name is a friendly pupil, who has the ability to do well in PE. So far this year he/she has shown glimmers of determination to improve in both of our units this semester, however, he/she often seems apathetic towards PE, which has hindered his/her progress. Name Is able to work independently, as a pair and in a team, which is fantastic to see! He/She is also beginning to give and receive meaningful feedback in order to improve performance. In order for Name to experience more success in PE, he/she needs to ensure he/she is on time and organized for the lesson. This includes having hair tied back, all jewelry off and no chewing gum. It would also be nice to see Name push himself/herself outside of his/her comfort zone and work with people of the same ability or higher, and not just his/her friends. If Name does this, I am sure he/she will begin to experience more enjoyment and success in PE.

In semester one he/she has shown increased focus and motivation to improve in net/wall games and invasion games which is great to see. Name showed particular strengths during our invasion games and can interpret some nonverbal cues during competitive situations, it would now be beneficial to see Name using some of these cues effectively to enhance his/her performance. As we move into semester two Name needs to continue to work with the same determination and resilience shown in semester one. I would like to see Name becoming more of a risk taker and completing activities and challenges which are outside of his/her comfort zone. This would allow him/her not only to develop his/her self confidence and awareness, but also his/her creative thinking in overcoming obstacles or problems faced during competitive situations. Well done Name, keep up the good work!

Next, students moved into a unit on the concept of XYZ, using the text Things Fall Apart by Nigerian author Chinua Achebe as an anchor and basis for close analysis.

ABC is a strong critical thinker and offers insightful ideas during our class discussions. S(he) is able to examine a text, issue, or concept from multiple perspectives and this is a valuable skill to continue strengthening. Her/His performance and progress in English will benefit from more attention being paid to self-management; she/he is often late to class and they have trouble submitting formative work on time. These patterns of behavior make it difficult for them to get the most out of the class. Going forward, I’d like to see her/him show up on time and keep track of due dates so that they can receive valuable feedback before summative exams. I look forward to seeing ABC’s progress in their last high school year!

Students in Language & Literature began the semester by focusing on the various interpretations of ‘the human condition.’ They examined texts including Shakespeare’s Othello and non-literary bodies of work with the same theme. Special focus has been paid to creating Global Issues and developing writing and analysis skills to strengthen their critical thinking and communication.

XYZ has demonstrated a strong and admirable work ethic; they are eager to learn, practice skills regularly, and are consistently participating in class discussions. Their performance in class will strengthen with more attention paid to thinking critically. They can often speak about the literal meanings of texts but have trouble finding and explaining the more nuanced interpretations. Going forward, I’d like XYZ to focus on developing their analysis by continually asking themselves probing questions when they’re analyzing, such as ‘why?,’ ‘how?,’ and ‘for what purpose?’ This is a useful habit to adopt and encourages deeper and more meaningful insights into texts.

Develop and use free body diagram models to represent the changes in the relative strength of forces on different objects in a collision. Create and use mathematical models to determine how changes in the mass and speed of an object affect the amount of kinetic energy that object has. Develop and use system models to support explanations for how contact forces, including friction and air resistance, cause energy to be transferred from one part of the system to another before, during, and after a collision.

Mohammed is Proficient in using evidence to support his claims that it is safer to be in a large car than a small car in a collision. He is Meeting expectations for research and information literacy skills, demonstrated in his ability to independently access information, using online credible sources, such as graphs, data tables, and content from scientific articles to support his evidence-based claims and explanations.

Mohammed works well independently but is encouraged to work on his social and communication skills in a group setting.

Mohammed would benefit from trusting others in a group setting Moving forward, Mohamed is encouraged to further develop his reflective skills and take responsibility for his learning by being an active participant in his learning process. Mohamed should ask himself the following three questions at the end of each lesson or as a revision strategy when he gets home: What did I learn today? What don’t I understand yet? What questions do I have now? As he practices this self-assessment process, he will be better equipped to tell me how I can support him in class.

Students investigated different cup features to explain the phenomenon whilst modeling how matter can enter or exit the cup in both open and closed systems. Through a series of lab investigations and simulations, students found two ways to transfer energy into the drink: (1) the absorption of light and (2) thermal energy from the warmer air around the drink. They were then challenged to design their own drink container that can perform as well as the store-bought container, following a set of design criteria and constraints.

1. Learning Targets: Developing and Interpreting Models

ATL: Thinking Skills

Cluster: Critical Thinking Skills

Subskills: Use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues

Student Z has shown proficiency in developing and interpreting scientific models. Student Z is able to identify between different states of matter, illustrate interactions between light/heat with matter and show insight into interpreting these models.

Students in semester 1 have strengthened their critical thinking skills as they are increasing their ability to research and above all, ask questions!
The semester has focused on preparing students for a project based classroom that has deadlines that reinforce time management. The data based inquiries they are used to have help to prepare them for research as they are now being asked to find reputable sources and synthesize opinions through facts. The students are given a goal to accomplish for the unit and class time is used to aide in the research and analysis process. By pulling several sources together, and summarizing; students can weigh and compare similarities and differences to find the truth in plain language.
Students have been imbued with acronyms and writing skills such as annotating and data collection to equip them to be historians in their own right.

Student "X" has performed well distinguishing between entertainment and reputable sources. He has shown growth in his ability to cross-reference artifacts and has good work ethic. Student X has struggled synthesizing ideas and making claims. The last exercise allowed him to show his strengths and from what I have assessed, increased his confidence in making a claim. Taking a position in his writing has proven difficult for him. The plan of action will be to offer him only 2 view points at a time and require him to choose. Then require him to defend his decision. These steps will help him grow into the young writer and researcher I know he can be.
