Once she returns to her apartment she instantly becomes upset, because she sees she is returning to her home where she is not rich. “It brought them to their door in the Rue des Martyrs, and sadly they walked up to their own apartment. It was the end, for her.” Madame believes that it is “the end” for her because she can’t be rich and who she wants to be. She should've realized at the time that what she had was great compared to others, and she should have changed her mindset, because when she becomes poor she sees how good she had it.
