The Class of 2025 engaged with their passion and service projects this year (2023). PASSION: Students were provided guidance and process for choosing their "passion" or "love." Then, students researched and built a product of that passion.Students engaged in weekly reflections discussing their processes, any weaknesses/strengths, challenges/successes and how they worked through the project. SERVICE: Students chose a non-profit organization to research, explain and advocate through a webpage and digital bulletin board. An end event will be to host a Service Fair.

Hi, my name is Mattie and for my project, I choose interior design. I chose this topic because interior design is one of my hobbies I enjoy, and I can show my own creativity in this house. My project has progressed a lot from the beginning and I have finished my house. The result of my project is great. I put so much hard work and effort into my project and I will admit this was a hard project. Even though this project was hard I learned a lot. I think even with everything I've done will be very helpful in the future. I also learned a ton of facts I never knew before. I learned that interior design dates back to ancient Egypt. I also learned that color affects your mood. For example, if I wanted a light yellow shaded room it would make you feel happy. I've learned so much about myself. I never would have thought that I could do this good on my project. Visit my webpage link below to see more of my project.
https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/mkinney25/home

Basketball is the topic of my passion project. The reason I chose this topic is because of my great love for basketball and wanting to grow my skill set. It also makes me feel like I’m a piece of something, I am also able to connect with others and hang out with friends. I progressed through my project by taking shots every day and practicing my form. Another useful part of my journey was having team practice, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and games, usually on Saturdays. The result of my project is being able to take more quality shots and have a preferable form. I learned that the game was created by James Naismith and that the 3-point line was implemented in 1979. These are just a few facts about this extraordinary game. I learned about myself that when I want to practice something and get it down I will go all in to accomplish it. I also learned that sometimes I deny that I need help because I think it might diminish myself. Finally, sometimes when I can’t get a skill immediately I get mad, however, I worked on keeping my cool and calm down. Thank You for listening.

Why I chose my Topic: Music inspires me to try new and other exciting things. I like music because it lets me grow my musical ear. I want some of my music to encourage people to find other interesting topics in life. I want people to feel inspired by music. Rock music helps me focus.

How my project progressed: I did computer research about early rock and roll and I talked to a real-life musician, Vince Kirk. He toured with bands like Survivor, Kinks, Night Ranger, The Romantics, Warrant, Kansas, Yes, and Wasp as a guitar player. I learned to play the twelve-bar blues, blues phrases in A, common blues and rock phrases, and Day Tripper by the Beatles.

Results of my project: I am inspired to learn more of the songs on my guitar. I learned that rock and roll was invented in Cleveland in the early 1950s. I learned some of the early history of rock and roll. I liked the type of style of music. Rock and roll originated from country music and rhythm and blues.

What I learned about my topic and about myself: I learned that Chuck Berry invented rock and roll and I also learned that Chuck Berry, James Brown, Ray Charles, Fats Domino, the Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Elvis Pressley were the first people to go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. My Great Grandfather, James Carmichael, was a federal probation and parole officer to Chuck Berry. I learned that I like music that is 75 years old.

https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/bgardner25/home

For my passion project, I did the trumpet. I decided that I was going to see how many songs I could play in 30 days. I chose this topic because I love playing my trumpet and I wanted to see improve Over the course of two weeks I played 21 songs. This is amazing for me. Some of these songs are Hot Cross Buns, London Bridge, and Mozart Melody. My project progressed over the course of my playing in band. The band is where I learned all these songs. Also, my background information helped a lot as I moved through this project. At first, I was taking my time and waited too long. This was not a good idea because when you wait too long it becomes sloppy and is not nice. I also did not get to talk to Mr. DeBose because of time. This project took a long time. This was Stressful. My schedule was also always busy. On the weekends I had basketball and other activities and on weekdays I had basketball practice and band. The result of my project was I got better at playing the trumpet. I learned that I like to wait until the last second to get stuff done. I also learned that the trumpet was a very important instrument for the military. Finally please consider going to my website.

here is my website
https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/qsimmons25/home

I choose my topic because my dog is so bored that she will go around my house and eat everything that she comes in contact with. What was my favorite part? It was making the actual toy. My favorite one was the tennis ball launcher; we had to go to the store to get the stuff. My least favorite part was the reflections, because at the beginning it was hard to think about what to say, and was mostly negative stuff, but once I got to the end it got easier. My background and information were not as hard as I thought it was gonna be, I think I have good websites that I used. My website link is below.

Hi, my name is Molly I chose my project as a family baking recipes because I love to bake and I love this family recipe. I also chose this topic because when I am bored I like to bake or make homemade dishes. I think baking is very interesting and I love doing family recipes during the Christmas season. I feel a strong connection to baking and it makes me happy.

During this project, I had to fix some spelling and grammar errors but l was able to fix them. At times, this project stressed me out and overwhelmed me but once I figured out how to edit and was able to put it together I started enjoying it. At first, I felt my website was a bit plain but eventually I found some interesting ideas. It was hard to find time to make my videos and make my caramels because I have been very busy with school work and sports.

I felt my caramels turned out ok but I probably needed to cook it a bit longer to make the color darker and them harder. My grandma makes these caramels a lot and it was fun to learn her recipe.

When making caramel, one hard thing is to time it all correctly. It is sometimes hard to get the correct consistency. It is easy to get is too soft or too hard and then it can be difficult to cut into pieces.

Something I wish I had done earlier is getting my project done faster so I'm not stressing about it.

Overall, it was a fun experience to figure out how to make the caramel and the website.

Please visit my webpage https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/mkenton25/home

I also wanted to learn more about painting. For my project first I needed to pick 3 paints I wanted to use. Next, I had to figure out what painting I was going to make. Finally, I had to paint the pictures. I decided to do watercolor, acrylic, and tempera paints. I learned that acrylic paint is very bright, but watercolor is not very bright. I figured out that all paints are very different. I learned I need to be more patient with myself, and acrylic paint is my favorite. I also learned that doing reflections was really hard for me. I’m proud of myself for not giving up, and working through things when they were hard. Overall this project has helped me learn a lot. Whether it is finding things around your house or ordering supplies online. My project has progressed smoothly. I haven't had a major problem with anything. I have been staying on task. And I have learned I have to be patient. Some things take a long time and you just have to go with it or you will never get it done. I have also learned I need to give myself a break sometimes. Jewelry is a hobby that is frustrating, and you have to be aware of that and not get mad at yourself. When I was making my jewelry I came across myself getting mad and I just kept going. But next time I am going to stop if I get frustrated because then I can enjoy doing it more. Instead of rushing to get it done. The first couple of times my reflections were hard because I wasn't used to it and it was hard saying my real thoughts that I usually keep to myself. I highly encourage you to look at my web page. So you can see my project in progress and how I was feeling. Overall this project helped me learn more about myself and my passion.

https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/chotze25/home

For my passion Project I chose baking. I chose baking because I love to bake with my friends and family. When I first started this project I knew very little about Baking. But after this project, I know a lot more about baking. Throughout This project, I have learned to make a website, use my time wisely, and make sure I’m on track. When I first started this project I thought it was gonna be very difficult and overwhelming, to the point I thought I couldn't do it. But over the time I have been working on this project, I have got a lot done and it turned out not as hard as I thought it was gonna be. Something I found very helpful was taking at least 30 min to do this project outside of school when I didn't have a conflict. Seeing this project come all together has been a lot of fun. The result of my project was learning the history of baking and how to make many different recipes and the importance of wearing oven mitts, cleaning up, and having all the right ingredients.

Hi, For my passion project I did painting. I did painting because I wanted to see how many different painting styles I could do even if I couldn’t buy a lot of new things. For my project I tried to see how many styles of painting I could do with only two types of paint while fitting all of them on a square canvas. The styles I did were abstract, realism, expressionism, pop art, genre painting, landscape painting, still life painting, impressionism, and dot art. I did painting because it is something that has recently come to my interests and something I want to know more about. During this project I didn’t really do that much on my project because it was a 1 week thing but I had to be very patient in order to get this done.I had to be patient while oje layer dried so I could put on the next layer or go over it in a different color. By the time I finished the paint was still wet when I left for vacation so I can’t show the finished product to you but you can go look at it on my website in the link below. https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/abrunner25/home

For my passion project I chose the topic bracelets because it makes me more creative. At first I wanted to do baking but then I thought of bracelets and I chose that instead because I liked it more. To make them first I chose what string I wanted and what colors and patterns. Then I started putting the beads on the string. Finally when I was done putting on the beads I tied both ends together, then I was done. Sometimes it can take a while to make bracelets, but you just have to be patient. It is very fun to pick out the colors and make it. So far I have learned that they can be hard and take up your time, but you just have to give yourself a break and keep going. I have also learned there are many types of bracelets and beads. My favorite type of beads are clay beads. You can make bracelets with any beads or string that you want. It is a way to express yourself and your creativity. Overall I have learned a lot about bracelets, and they have made me express myself better. Look at the link to my website below so you can see my progress, my thoughts about my passion project, and pictures of the bracelets that I made. https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/eegersett25/home.

My passion for the passion project is art. I chose this topic because I draw a lot and I like drawing. My project progressed pretty fast and it started going fast in the last week. I like how my project turned out because I learned a lot of new concepts of art. I learned that it is not that hard to get better at drawing you just have to practice hard and devote a lot of time to it. I also learned that I am pretty good at art and I like it a lot. This project taught me that I can do a lot of things if I just devote myself to it. I tried very hard to make this a good project and to make it almost perfect.

For my Passion Project I made a video about The Beatles. I chose this for my project because I have loved The Beatles’ music for a long time. I also do theater classes and like watching documentaries about The Beatles so I combined these two topics to make my project. I loved making the video because I got to share all the things I love about The Beatles. It was a little bit difficult to get an idea what to do but I think in the end, it looks good. Writing my Background Information really helped me while making my video because I could use some of the information I wrote in my video. Some things I found hard while making my video were choosing the songs. There are so many I could have chosen, so it was difficult to narrow it down. I am very proud of my video and you can go to my site to watch it in the link below.

https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/astorey25/home

Hi, my name is Lily. For my passion project, I chose photography. I chose photography because when I was little I used always love looking at pictures and was amazed at how they turned out. I have always wanted to try photography, but never really had time. I also wanted to learn more about how to edit photos. I think it is very cool how you can express yourself through different types of photos. Remembering this I thought choosing photography would be perfect. At the beginning of this project, I was a little nervous because of all the things we were expected to do, but it turned out to be fun. I thought the part of building your own website would be a lot harder than it actually was. I loved how much freedom we had in what we could do with our project. Most of the work was pretty easy and I completed it in class, but one part I struggled with was the background and history parts because there weren’t a lot of good trustworthy websites about the history of photography. I also got a late start with my main project because I couldn’t find a good time to go and take photos. This project helped me with staying organized, be on task, and make plans. This will become handy in the future. Although I got a late start to actually getting to take the photos, this gave me more time to figure out how I wanted to set up the photos on my website. Getting to take pictures was by far the most fun part of this project. I ended up taking pictures of more small things than big things because they bring more attention to some really cool things that might not catch your attention when you pass by them that are really cool. Someone who really helped me with taking the photos was my dad. He helped me with how to angle different photos, work the camera, and catch little things that are really cool. I enjoyed doing this project a lot and I am very happy with the ending result of my project. I think that it helps me gain many skills. I love to watch NBA games and my favorite team to watch is the Dallas Mavericks. My favorite player on this team is Luka Doncic. These are a few of the reasons I chose this as my passion project.

My project began with me taking practice shots outside. At the beginning of my project I shot ten 3 pointers to see how many I could make. I made 5 out of 10 shots. One thing that helped my project progress was that my basketball season was going on at the same time.

I used my practices and games to try and improve my shooting.

At the end of my season I shot ten more 3 pointers to see how many I could make after working to improve my shot. I think My project was successful because I learned more about lacrosse. I learned That lacrosse is the oldest sport in both the Americas. I started playing lacrosse 3 years ago. I just started playing state lacrosse For team Missouri. I also play on brookside in the spring. I hope to play lacrosse for a lot more time in my life. At the start of this project I was worried that it was going to be too hard but after I learned how to string It wasn't as hard as I thought. When I first started playing lacrosse I did not how to do anything. In my first game, I was not good and after that game, I broke my arm everyone on my team got better except for me. So I had to practice 2 times as hard and as much. Know I have made the state team and won a tournament.

https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/rhodes25/home

For my passion project, I have chosen to do cat and dog toys and treats! I started loving animals ever since I was young I had a dog named Hank and a cat named Dixie then unfortunately they died so now I have a really cute yellow lab named Cash. I thought this project was really interesting. It had a lot of add-on activities also like I had to craft to do the toys and bake to do the treats! I think that the ending result turned out great! The cat toys were pretty easy to make because I just had all the materials lying around like string, fluff, fabric, and feathers! The cat treats were also very simple it had carrots, cat nip, flour, and egg! Although it was hard to decide what recipe to do since I don’t have a cat of my own anymore. The dog treats were really fun to make! My Aunt helped me make them they had peanut butter, honey, flour, and egg! The dog toys were also pretty hard. I did the toys with basic things like socks, tennis balls, water bottles, and dog foods to give an extra shacking sound to the toys. I thought this project was really fun and I learned a lot!

Hi my name is Aubrey and for my passion project I chose dog treats. .I chose this topic because I wanted to think of all dogs in this project. I feel that I should make a treat for all dogs that is delicious but still make a treat safe and healthy. I also know that some dogs have bad allergies so I wanted to make one dog friendly too. I also love making new recipes even tho I'm not great at them When i first started my project I thought it would be hard because i didn't have much experience also i need a healthy recipe .But once I asked my Nana who make doggy treats and she said she would help me. We first had to find healthy doggy treats and that was tough. We then went to the grocery store but that was also hard because the recipes were very specific. So when we got everything we started. We started making blue berry oat and peanut butter treats and they turned out very good but when we started to make the sweet potato treats it didn't turned out like we wanted at first. My Nana started adding more flour and it finally started to thicken and her dogs and my dog loved it!We put the blueberry ones into little protein balls and the sweet potato into squares! I learned a lot about my self and one of those things are is I am very impatient because it took 20-40 minutes to cook each treat and I did not like to wait.Thank you for watching and if you want to know more about my project look at the link in the description
https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/adaniel25/home

I have been playing basketball since I was little and it is now my favorite sport.

I enjoy watching NBA and College games with my family. My favorite teams are the Boston Celtics and MU Tigers. My project began with me taking 15 practice free throws and seeing how many I could make, I ended up making 11 out of 15.

One thing that helped me with my project was that my basketball season was starting the same time the project was assigned. I used my practices, games, and free time to improve my shot.

At the end of my basketball season I shot 15 more free throws and ended up making 13 out of 15.

I chose interior design for my topic. Why I chose this topic is because I have always been into decorating. When I am bored I would randomly pick something up in my room and make it look better. My project has progressed a lot from the start. I have had some difficulties along the way, but that has taught me to be more patient and flexible throughout my project. Something	that has helped me get past my project by taking breaks once in a while. When I was struggling I looked at some examples from the previous years before me and that really helped me get an idea of what to write and say. Something that has helped me stay calm as being positive no matter what, I think that is important because it teaches you that you don't always have to do things right away. I think my topic helps me express my creativity for my project. I'm building a house / decorating it. I'm almost done with it. I am really excited to see the finished product. Something that was really hard for me was writing my reflections because I had to know exactly how I was feeling for that week / day. What I talked about in most of my Reflections was pretty much just saying that I was stressed out most of the time and I was scared that I wasn't going to finish my project. But now that I'm done with my project I feel really happy and feel like a weight has lifted off my shoulder. Something that I learned that I think I will use later on in life, is learning how to make a web page. The web page really gave me a run for my money because sometimes it was hard to keep up but other times I felt like I was on track. Overall I really liked the experience of the passion project. I think it was a really fun challenge. If you are interested in more please go visit my web page:
https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/ldreiling25/home

I enjoy watching the PGA and my favorite player is Rory Mcllroy and Tigar Woods.

At first, I became pretty nervous about how it was going to go and how to write reflections, but then I got the hang of it and became more confident.

In my project, I wasn’t hitting any of the balls straight and I got really mad at myself, but I kept on practicing until I was hitting them perfectly. This much practice helped me so much that every shot I took was far and straight. I learned about my topic that it started in Scotland, and the first balls were made out of leather and feather.

Hi, my name is Matthew. For my passion project I choose basketball mainly because it is my favorite sport and I play it a lot. I also I want to get better at shooting. Some techniques that help are not rushing my shot. I think the passion project progressed because I was taking shots every day and trying to get better. I learned to use my time more wisely and to not talk to my friends as much during class time so I can get more work done. I've always loved basketball since I was a little kid and I want to keep playing throughout my life. Some things I learned to get better at shooting was to use your legs more to get more power and to arch your shot more. Things I liked about my passion project were how much more I learned about basketball but things that were hard were writing my reflections.

For my passion project, I made music. I chose music because I love music and being able to create music or play songs on my instruments, even listening to music is just very exciting and fun. Most of my family at least plays one instrument so it just also kind of runs in my family. From the beginning when I started my website and saw how this would turn out I was very nervous and stressed. I was nervous to start this because I have a hectic schedule and I thought I wouldn’t have any time to create my project. But once I made time for my project I was able to finish. The results of my project were I think very good and it came out better than I excepted because all the beats and melodies went together great. Something that was a little hard was writing my reflections because some days I felt like I didn't have anything left to say. I learned a lot, I learned more about the history of music and when some instruments were made. I also learned more about how to be a better musician and song maker.

My passion project my topic was basketball. I picked basketball because I've loved playing it ever since I was little and I still enjoy it today. I enjoyed this project because it really helped me learn how much I can do in a short amount of time and how much I can really learn. I struggled on this project because I kind of pushed everything off until the end which was not a good idea and I regret it very much because I ended up having to work very hard near the end. In my videos you can find me playing basketball in a game and how I play and how I shoot and how I score when the pressure is on. Another reason I like this project is that I got to learn about the history of basketball and how many different facts there are like how they used to actually play in a shoot the ball into a bucket and that's why it's called basketball. This project helped me with time management because I usually don't have very great time management and push things off till the end and I really don't want to do them but in this project, I had to do them or else I would have gotten a bad grade. My advice for future people doing this project would be just to listen to the teacher in class instead of playing around with your friends because you can do that outside of class.

My topic is interior design. I have always liked redecorating my room, and I want to redo a room in my house next year. When I started I didn’t really know what or how I would show my project. After a few weeks I decided to do a mood board. A mood board is something that interior designers make for their clients. Normally on a mood board there are some blueprints of the room, colors the client likes or that go well with their chosen colors, decor, furniture or what floor that the client wants in that room. Sometimes they will have a list of want or “needs.” On my mood board I put colors that I liked, furniture I wanted in this room, decor, and blueprints of the room. Through out this experience I have learned that I need to be more patient, I also learned that even if I want to quit to just keep on going because at the end you will be happy you did it and you are going to be glad you did it and won’t regret it later in life. Please go look at my website for more facts and information. :)
https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/klayton25/home

The organization I chose for my service project was The Veterans Community Project. I chose the Veterans Community Project because I thought it would be cool to see what people in the military do after their service. I also want to build a relationship with them because I will most likely want to volunteer again in the future. I also wanted to see what it's like to work there and be part of the community. We will have a lemonade stand at Tommy's house because many cars drive by. We will then, with our profit, buy toiletries or things on the VCP wishlist. Finally, we will deliver hygiene bags to VCP and take a tour of one of the mini homes. In the end, we made $284 and bought items from dollar tree. After that, we had 30 bags of needed hygiene supplies. During this project, I learned how little things can make people come together and be very happy.

Hi, my name is Mattie! I did my service project with a partner, Aubrey. Our organization is KC Pet Project.

They are all about getting pets off the streets. They take thousands of pets a year. They want to provide food, water, toys, and give a comfy bed to all these animals. They make sure each one feels loved. Every pet they take off the street is put in a boxed area and then wait for someone to adopt the pets. They also don't kill pets if they aren't adopted.

I chose this organization because I wanted to help make pets feel loved. Even though they dont have a current family they will at least have toys to play with.

Our action plan was to take towels, socks, and water bottles to make dog toys. Then take feathers, string, and thin wooden poles to make cat toys. It started as me and Aubrey getting donations ready and giving speeches but now we have donated and created many toys to give them.

It was a great result when we went to the organization and donated the toys. KC Pet Project was very happy!

I learned how much they care about pets and want to save them and help them find a home. I also learned that service is important and it can make anyone feel special.

Hi, my name is Fisher, and the organization I chose for my service project was HappyBottoms. HappyBottoms is an organization that collects diapers to give to people who need them in the KC community. I chose this organization because it was close to my home.

After I did some research, I saw what they do and how I could help. I learned that diapers can be a big expense, about $80 - $100 a month. I also learned that babies can get sick from staying in the same diaper for too long or if they don’t have a diaper to wear.

We knew that there were multiple ways to donate to this organization, so we created an action plan. Our action plan consisted of a lemonade stand and volunteering at their warehouse. We set up a lemonade stand at Arno Park on a sunny Saturday. Some cars driving by stopped to donate to our cause.

We spent all of the money we earned at the lemonade stand on diapers and wipes to donate to HappyBottoms. When volunteering at their warehouse, we sorted and packaged diapers of different sizes. We sorted packs of 25 diapers and wrapped these packs to create bundles for families. I am very grateful that I got to learn about this problem because I didn't realize this problem existed in our community.

I enjoyed doing this project with my friends because we see each other frequently. Doing things with my friends is also more fun. This project was easier than I thought it would be. HappyBottoms had collection bins so we didn’t have to make our own. HappyBottoms also instructed us on what to do in their warehouse.

I have learned that service isn’t about you, it's about the people you help. Something else I learned is that you can do service no matter how old you are. When we volunteered at the HappyBottoms warehouse, there were volunteers from age 8 all the way up to age 60. I learned that anyone can help make our community a better place. Something I learned about myself was that I can do things that seem hard.

You can see my service project webpage by clicking the link in my script.

Hi I’m Brendan Dunn. I chose Kanbe’s Markets for my service project. Kanbe’s delivers healthy food to local food deserts. Some people in Kansas City don’t have access to grocery stores. Without access to a grocery store, those same people can’t get healthy food. I chose Kanbe’s because I feel everyone should be able to get nutritious food. Nutritious food is fresh fruits and vegetables.

Let me first explain what a food desert is. A food desert is a lower-income part of the city where the residents do not have easy access to a large grocery store. Food deserts are fixable. There is enough healthy food to go around, it’s just a matter of access to it.

I wanted to volunteer at Kanbe’s to learn more about how they are fixing food deserts. I got the opportunity to volunteer there one morning. While I was there I was responsible for inspecting asparagus that came from local farmers. I separated the good and bad asparagus. The good asparagus was then loaded on a truck for delivery. The bad asparagus didn’t go to waste. It was collected to give to local farmers to feed their livestock.

I learned where Kanbe’s delivers the food. Remember there’s not a grocery store to deliver to. Instead, they deliver their healthy food to where food is bought in this neighborhood and that’s at gas stations and convenience stores. Another problem was the gas stations and convenience stores didn’t have refrigerators for the food. Kanbe’s fixed this problem by giving the stores a medium-sized refrigerators.

I thought it was pretty cool to see exactly how Kanbe’s is fixing food deserts. I learned that sadly in our city there are alot of people that live without healthy food. I learned that Kanbe’s needs alot of money and volunteers to get up their good work. After I volunteered I was proud of the work I did there and it felt good to help out.

https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/bdunn25/brendans-service

Grant: Sherwood Autism Center

Hello, my name is Grant Dolak and for my Service Project I chose to help Sherwood Autism Center. Sherwood is a non-profit that helps disabled men, women, and children be contributing members of society. They believe that everyone has potential and that they can do anything they want. They also help with controlling emotions and their disabilities.

I chose Sherwood Autism Center because helping others is something that brings me joy. I also believe that the organization is truthful, giving, and kind. I feel as though Sherwood Autism Center really cares about the people they help. Their mission statement also really spoke to me, it showed me that they value community and family just like I do. Finally, I think their cause is very noble and I want to be a part of it in any way possible.

For service, my group and I made a concession stand. It took place on May 13 from 1-3 PM. We had drinks and snacks of all kinds. Then from May 8 -19 we had a collection for the whole school. The collection is collecting items from the wish list. These items include cleaning supplies, hygiene, and art supplies.

Throughout the project our group worked feverishly. We had many problems such as dates and cancellations. However, we powered through and got a finished product. We had a great time making posters and doing the stand, we were so very happy with our finished product. We had a goal to raise $150 dollars however, we only made a total of $77 for Sherwood.

I learned a lot about my group and myself, such as, we work well with others, we can compromise, we are open to new ideas, and we love to have fun. Now for myself, I learned that I can be controlling however, I worked on letting the others contribute to the project as well. As it progressed I found myself making more group decisions. Another thing I learned during the project was that I can wander away from the task at hand, I also procrastinated quite a bit. Whenever I found myself wandering away from the project or procrastinating I would try to reel myself back in.

That is the result of my service project and I invite you to check out our padlet and websites. https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/gdolak25/grants-service-project

We got the $200 from a derby horse race that we set up to make money. At first it kinda went slow to make and to find time when we could both work, but it only took two days to complete all the stuffed animals and pillows, but the money was quick to come. At first we had planned to have a lemonade stand but then we came short on time so we just did the race.

The results of the project were good, the luves and pillows came out great and I think we gave them a pretty good amount of money, too.

I learned from this project that when you want to do good stuff that sometimes it takes hard work and dedication but what you have in the end will turn out in a good way and you might even surprise yourself, in a good way, from what you created. Anyway I had a really good experience from thisproject. I also got what I was doing this for and it helped to better understand what different people have to go through.

Please go visit my website:
https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/ejswitzer25/lizas-service-project

Hi, my name is Clara and the organization I chose was Gilda’s Club. My partners were Estelle and Adriana. Me and my partners felt attached to this topic because we know some people that have cancer and wanted to help. We did a lemonade stand, we had all pink lemonade, all pink cookies and candy. The representatives of Gilda’s Club came earlier in the week and gave us bracelets and flyers to hand out after a sale was made. We ended up making over 200$ that all went to the organization. Gilda’s Club is a non profit organization that helps people recover from cancer. They not only help the people with cancer but they also help the family members of the cancer patient. Gilda’s Club was invented in 1991. The name Gilda’s Club comes from the name Gilda. Gilda Radner had ovarian cancer and sadly died of cancer in 1989 at 42 years old. A couple years later her husband Gene Radner opened a Gilda’s Club honoring Gilda. And the first location of Gilda’s Club was in New York. There are now many more locations of Gilda’s Club. And so many ways to donate to Gilda’s Club, not just money but time helps a lot too. You can donate your time and help out around Gilda’s Club. If you are interested look on the Gilda’s Club website with their email, and phone number linked below.

Please consider looking at my web page below

https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/chotze25/claras-service-project

I thought this was a really good idea because before I wanted to help with Children’s Mercy, but then realized that they already had stuffed animals and stuff. It made me realize how many people really care!

My mom also set up online donations so I got a lot off of that too! In the end, I raised $304. I am really happy with how it went!

In this project, I learned to be more responsible and caring. I chose this organization because I loved the idea of giving kids toys and games to take their mind off of their sickness.

For my action plan, I went to Bags of Fun KC and filled a bag for a kid with Leukemia. His name was Mason and he was 9. I really loved filling the bag for him and I really hope he loved the bag! This project really made me think if I or one of my friends were in this situation. I would want them to be happy if they are very sick.

Hi, my name is Quinn and for my organization, I chose Wayside Waifs. Their mission is to prepare pets and people for the bond of their lives. My action plan was to let 3rd and 4th graders make dog and cat toys. On April 17-30th there was a drive. I collected many things with Mattie and Aubrey. Then I went to Wayside Waifs. The 3rd and 4th graders did not come so the kids in my class made them.

I chose this organization because I love animals and Wayside Waifs is a no-kill shelter. I have two dogs of my own. I am just glad that there are many different types of no-kill shelters. I love helping other animals and maybe they will have fun with my toys. No-kill shelters don't hurt the animals there.

My project changed and this was hard for me. On March 30th I wrote this reflection... I choose not to work in a group. This is ok with me. I will make toys. I think this will help out all the cats and dogs in need at Wayside Waifs. I am happy right now and don't have any questions right now. Then 6th grade made toys.

I learned that no matter what happens you can do it. Service is very important because it can make many people happy.

Please consider visiting my spring service project website https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/qsimmons25/service-project

Thank you for listening.

Hi, my name is Kathryn and for my service project I chose Noah's band-aid drive. This organization was made for a little boy named Noah who had cancer and was tired of getting boring brown band-aids. He made this organization so that other little kids can have fun colorful band-aids instead of boring brown band-aids. I chose this organization because I feel very bad for Noah and his family.

My group’s action plan was to have a band-aid drive at school. Then after the drive we held a lemonade stand, which then we used the money to buy more band aids. My service project progressed throughout with my group working together to select the different types of band aids. One challenge was to make sure we found colorful band aids. Most places had brown band aids so we went to several stores to collect colorful ones. We found the colorful band aids at the Dollar Store and bought several. My group and I were able to collect 65 packages of band aids in total.

Through this project I learned that when I make a goal I can accomplish a lot. I also learned how much fun it is to help others in need.

Please check out my webpage https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/kdoyle25/kathryns-service-

We chose the organization Gilda’s Club which is a non-profit organization that works with people with cancer and helps them recover. It can also help the family members of the person who has or had cancer. We chose this because we love to help out with people and we just felt very drawn towards Gilda’s Club.

My group had a lemonade stand at Loose Park to help raise money for them. We sold pink lemonade, cookies, candy, bracelets for cancer, and gum. We ended up making $230 from the lemonade stand. A worker from Gilda’s Club came to our school and gave us bracelets for the lemonade stand and bags from Gilda’s Club. They also gave us pamphlets to hand out to people.

Gilda’s husband founded Gilda’s Club in 1991 in New York. Gilda Radner had ovarian cancer, and sadly ended up dying at age 42 from it in 1989. There are more than 50 local businesses for Gilda’s Club. Anyone can donate to Gilda’s Club if they want to.

For my service project I chose the Veteran's Community Project (VCP). I chose the VCP because I wanted to help homeless veterans that served for our country have a roof over their head and food and clothes. I felt bad knowing that people risk their lives for us then became homeless. I really want to help them get back on their feet and get a home for themselves.

I made a food drive and we got about 300 individual packages of food for the veterans we put them in baggies and we gave them to the organization. I am happy to know that I am helping veterans get back on their feet. I hope this video makes you want to help them please donate it would help veterans a lot. Please check out their website. Just like I wanted to help them I hope it makes you want to help those veterans.

The VCP has a very nice place with 49 tiny homes two of which that are bigger homes for families. All the people I met sounded so grateful for the VCP and all their generous action. I like knowing that there is a place where all the homeless veterans can go. It shows that there are people that care about these people and don't want to leave them suffering on the street. Please donate and help those who need it most.

https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/jhageman25/joeys-service-project

Sunflower House is an organization that helps children who have been abused or neglected.

I chose this orginizationg because I thought a little bit about what if I was in this situation and what it would feel like. I also thought about how uncomfortable the therapy sessions would be without something to hold or fidget with. That is why for our action plan we made pillows and luvies. We also held a competition for the Kentucky Derby horse race. We made 200 dollars total and presented the Sunflower House with the check when they came to pick up the pillows and luvies.

Throughout the project we had to make a lot of changes with our action plan. We had to work out what they needed and what we could do. Time was a big part of the process of of our project. Our progress progressed pretty quickly while making our padlet, editing our websites, and making the pillows and luvies. A couple things we did change were at first we planned to do a lemonade stand to make money. We also planned to go to the store and get things on their wishlist. Instead of doing that we decided to hold the Kentucky Derby contest and just present them with the money.

At the end of our project we gave the Sunflower house 11 luvies and 7 pillows for their teddy bear showcase and 200 dollars.

Some things I learned about myself during this project were that I like to have a plan ahead of time.

Hi. For my organization I chose Mattie Rhodes Center. Their mission is to help others out of bad situations. I chose this organization because my mom works there and I want to do a drive for my favorite event that they put on which I have been helping with for about 4 years. Me and my partner Keira did a backpack drive because they can't get enough backpacks to use so they have to use bags.

Planning what we would actually do to get backpacks was very hard because we both have very busy schedules. Our backpack drive was a success. We got 5 backpacks and $120 but with that $120 we got 24 more backpacks for $95.34. With the leftover money we are going to buy more pencils for them. The reason we are getting pencils is because every year they try to give each kid 12 pencils and sometimes they don’t have enough for the teachers because the teachers need pencils for when the students run out.

When my mom found out about all the donations and backpacks she immediately told everybody that helps put on the event and they were really excited that we were willing to help them with something this big. Please go look at my website in the link below.

https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/abrunner25/abigails-service-project

Hi,my name is Lily. For my orginization I chose Sunflower House and my partner was Liza.

We also planned to go to the store and get things on their w

ishlist.

I also learned that once I completed my project it made me feel very accomplished and happy.

Click the links below to see more of my project.

https://padlet.com/ejswitzer25/sunflower-house-i6lmbh1jvna7jc1b

https://sites.google.com/stekcschool.org/lhinkle25/lilys-service-project
