-Oedipus solves the riddle causing the sphinx to kill herself

-The Thebans crown him as king and he marries Jocasta with whom he has two sons

-A terrible plague fell upon Thebes in which not only were men dying, but the flocks, herds, and fruits were devastated

-Oedipus sent Jocasta's brother, Creon, to Delphi find out how to end the plague

-Creon came back bearing the news that the plague would end as soon as the killer of Laius was punished

-Oedipus turns to the blind prophet Teiresias for the answer and he reveals that Oedipus is the murderer

-Oedipus and Jocasta exchange tales of their foretold futures by the Delphic oracles

-Oedipus find out from the shepard who was told to kill the infant that he is in fact the son of Laius and Jocasta

-Oedipus then finds Jocasta dead in her room

- informed by an oracle that his own son will one day kill him and marry his wife

- leaves Oedipus tied to a mountain to die

- murdered by a man he encounters years after abandoning his son

- grows up in Corinth as the son of King Polybus

- notified by an oracle that he will kill his own father

- leaves his home, Corinth, to avoid killing his "father"

- saves Thebes from the Sphinx after answering the riddle correctly and is crowned king

- after death of her husband, she marries the new King of Thebes not knowing it's her son

- sent by Oedipus to visit the oracle at Delphi to ask the gods how to lift off the plague in Thebes
