         <description><![CDATA[<p>-King Laius of Thebes married a distant cousin, Jocasta</p><p>-Apollo's oracle at Delphi warned Laius that he would be killed by his son </p><p>-Upon his sons birth, Laius bound the child's feet together and had it left on a mountain</p><p>-Laius was later slain by a band of robbers while away from home</p><p>-The murder was not investigated because Thebes was being tormented by a sphinx who devoured every traveler who couldn't answer her riddle; Thebes' gates remained closed and and the citizens faced famine</p><p>-The courageous and intelligent heir to the throne of Corinth, named Oedipus, searches for the sphinx determined to solve the riddle after leaving his home due to a Delphic oracle telling him that he was destined to kill his father</p><p>-Oedipus solves the riddle causing the sphinx to kill herself</p><p>-The Thebans crown him as king and he marries Jocasta with whom he has two sons</p><p>-A terrible plague fell upon Thebes in which not only were men dying, but the flocks, herds, and fruits were devastated</p><p>-Oedipus sent Jocasta's brother, Creon, to Delphi find out how to end the plague</p><p>-Creon came back bearing the news that the plague would end as soon as the killer of Laius was punished</p><p>-Oedipus turns to the blind prophet Teiresias for the answer and he reveals that Oedipus is the murderer</p><p>-Oedipus and Jocasta exchange tales of their foretold futures by the Delphic oracles</p><p>-Oedipus find out from the shepard who was told to kill the infant that he is in fact the son of Laius and Jocasta</p><p>-Oedipus then finds Jocasta dead in her room</p><blockquote style="margin: 0 0 0 40px; border: none; padding: 0px;"></blockquote>]]></description>
