Andor

12-Aristotle

Because it requires navigating language, cultural conventions, values, and worldviews, intercultural communication is challenging. When respectful behavior in one culture is viewed as impolite behavior in another, misunderstandings can occur. Idioms and nonverbal clues are examples of details in language that add another level of complexity. Different cultural communication methods have an impact on how communications are understood. Effective communication requires both cultural knowledge and empathy because, in order to avoid ethnocentrism, one must be willing to learn about and appreciate many cultures while also being aware of one's own prejudices.

Imagine two people from different cultures trying to dance together, different rhythms, with every gesture and word carrying unique, culturally-rooted meanings. Nonverbal cues, historical contexts, and differing realities can turn simple conversations into complex exchanges, that can lead to misunderstanding. Even when we think we're speaking the same language, cultural beliefs can be not the same in unexpected ways. To navigate this, one must approach with curiosity and empathy, becoming a cultural detective for us to be able to communicate well.

These challenges arise from fundamental differences in religion, gender, age, social status, cultural frameworks that shape our beliefs, values, and communication styles. A lack of cultural awareness can exacerbate these challenges, leading to stereotypes, prejudice, emotional barriers and communication breakdown. However, effective intercultural communication is achievable through active listening, empathy, and a willingness to learn new things or knowledge from other individuals by recognizing and respecting cultural differences, we can foster understanding and create a more inclusive world.

First, there may be language problems because people from different cultures may not share a common language. Secondly, the norms and values vary from one culture to another; hence, misinformation may occur, or there might be conflicts if one has to communicate with different people coming from another culture. Thirdly, nonverbal cues and gestures may mean or understood differently in different cultures, creating misunderstandings. Another challenge could be related to different styles and ways of communicating, like direct or indirect styles, that make it hard to perceive and communicate the message. Finally, stereotyping and prejudices tend to influence perception and attitude and hence make it difficult to generate trust and develop a proper relationship with people from other cultures.

This have resulted in numerous of breakdowns in every daily conversation, because I could withstand with the fact that I have my own culture. Therefore, I already experienced being misunderstood as I continue to engage myself with societies where I do not belong. Discernment is a need for us, humans, considering that we are all dependent to our co-well-being. The imperfection that we obtain as human beings could eventually lead us to conflicts which we do not seek for. The factors for these conflicts could be: First, we do not speak the same language knowing that we came from different cultures. Secondly, I have concluded that we communicate diversely as we possess our own binocular in the state we live in, this could cause for us to share and interpret information which we are unable to grasp more tightly. And for the last factor, some gestures we might receive from other culture could be understood in a way that it is not pleasing at all. In order for us to address Intercultural Communication properly and effectively, we need to have the patience of a student who is waiting for his/her bachelor's degree in learning how to talk with pride, but at the same time, with concise and wise choose of words.

De Guzman, Akizha A.

11-Honesty (Humss 2)

For me, it's challenging. Why? Because we all know that we have our own views, beliefs, and preferences. We are all aware that even when we are in our own country people have something to say to one another, nevertheless, not everyone thinks the same way they do, and we must still stand on our own two feet or believe in our abilities. But let's get back to the point, Why is it so difficult? Why is it difficult to do?

Firstly, speaking, there are still many people who do not know how to speak English. I am not saying that it should be learned right away because we are Filipino citizens, but if we think about it, we need to learn it for our communication. in different countries, and as for speech, there are other people who don't speak our words. "Where did it come from?" It's like what we think to them, "How can they understand what I'm saying?" isn't it the first time i heard it? But if we have the desire to learn about or respect them so that we can communicate with them, isn't it easy? because we will understand each individual better.

Secondly, When it comes to clothes, We should all be open-minded because our clothes are for us, not for other people. It's common in other cultures to dress a certain way, so dressing up makes you seem really comfortable, But we shouldn't look down on those who cover up because that's just how they want it to be. We should also not judge women harshly because they wear short shirts & skirts, which irritates people with bad attitudes and makes them criticize womens. Our culture is different from everyone else's, and we should always be aware of this and treat it with courteousness.

thirdly, in terms of gender, there are still many people who criticize same-sex marriages, gays, lesbians, transgenders, and others. Isn't it easy to understand, but other people making them feel as a bad person? We should be open-minded in this matter because love has no choice it is what people feel voluntarily, and we must support their wants. That is their choice, and if there is any consequence, they are the ones responsible for it, not us.

Isn't it challenging? These are just a few of the issues i notice. However we all have various opinions and beliefs that revolve around our personal preferences, We should never lose visual perception of the reality that we are all ordinary individuals with distinct cultural backgrounds, and it shouldn't be a reason for us to treat others obnoxious. Let's raise respect. We are not making ourselves any less human if we acknowledge and are fulfilled with the beliefs and understandings of people around us. We are not native to an individual nation, despite the numerous obstacles.

If you can't handle that situation just be respectful, not everyone is fluent with other language that's why we need to respect and understand them. It takes time to learn and adapt. We should be open-minded with everything, don't disrespect someone just because you have different culture and language with them.

Language barriers, varying body language, and contrasting values like individualism vs. collectivism can lead to misunderstandings. Prejudices and stereotypes can also make it hard to connect with people from other cultures. To be successful in intercultural communication, we need to be aware of cultural differences, be empathetic, and be open to learning from others. Active listening, respecting different perspectives, and being willing to share our own experiences are key to building bridges and creating a more inclusive world.

Different cultural communication styles, from formal to casual, direct to indirect, can affect efficacy and clearness. Miscommunication can occur from variations in language and emotion. Sentences and informal idioms could not translate properly, even between speakers of the same language. Effectively bridging cultural barriers demands knowledge, sensitivity, and responsiveness while managing these issues.

Doria, Nina Ann Marie V.

11 Creativity

In my opinion, one of the main difficulties in intercultural communication is the difference in communication styles. This divergence can lead to misinterpretations and confusion because people struggle to connect their communication style to others.

In addition, language barriers can also be a problem in intercultural communication. Even when people speak a common language like English, it can still lead to a misunderstanding for every individual having different accents, slang, and dialects. For example, if someone speaks in a way that only they can comprehend, the others will not understand them since they are not from their culture.

Cultural norms are also a challenge in intercultural communication. Of course, we individuals have different cultures, meaning, we view things differently. These cultural norms influence how we interact and respond with other people in various situations. For example, in Japan, slurping the noodles very loudly is a sign that we like the food that the chef gave us, while in other countries, such as the Philippines, it is seen as disrespectful.

Another thing to consider is the stereotyping in other cultures. Many people assume that if a individual is from a different country, they will speak or do what they expect them to do because they see it in social media. These stereotypes can be disrespectful to other cultures and can lead to misunderstanding.

These difficulties include language differences, which can quickly result in misunderstandings, and cultural standards that might not match. It can be difficult to communicate nonverbally across cultural boundaries since even seemingly basic gestures or eye contact can convey various meanings. Making real relationships might also be complicated by our own judgments and beliefs. Furthermore, it might be challenging to determine someone's true feelings because various cultures have different ways of expressing their emotions. We have many of options for enhancing our ability to interact across cultures despite these obstacles. We may cross these cultural differences and establish deep bonds by approaching every meeting with ethical behavior, empathy, and a readiness to change. Particularly in the multicultural world of today, understanding these intricacies is crucial for our individual and professional development as communicator.

If we all remember, communication can be affected by culture, gender, age, religion, and social class. We all went and grew up in a different environment, and we have our own beliefs about why sharing our own knowledge about our culture with others can sometimes lead to a communication breakdown. Take, for example, an exchange of communication between a Japanese and a Chinese; their country has its own experiences and backgrounds. If both of them are not able to understand each other, it will lead to a misunderstand and may also lead to culture shock. That is why knowing one's cultural knowledge and background is important. In this way we can provide a more effective way of communication while at the same time giving respect to whom we are talking to.

Elaine Jane A. Diolon

G 11 HE Diligence

The challenge in intercultural communication is the misunderstanding with your interlocutor because we humans have different beliefs, upbringing or habits, we need to know what should and should not be said to the interlocutor, we can also study their culture so that so you can understand each other, it's hard to talk if you don't understand what the other person is saying, you don't know how to respond because we don't know if what we say is wrong or will hurt him, so it's better if we study the background of a person regarding their culture so as not to lead to breakdown communication and it is also respect for their culture.
