Gabrielzinho, como também é conhecido, foi diagnosticado com focomelia que é uma doença que se caracteriza principalmente pelo desenvolvimento defeituoso ou até mesmo a ausência dos ossos longos dos braços, das pernas e também sucessivamente das mãos e dos pés. O atleta começou a praticar natação ainda em 2015 devido a um convite de um professor de educação física, e desde então trouxe inúmeras conquistas ao comitê paralímpico brasileiro. Gabriel também, foi um dos destaques do brasil na paraolimpíada de Tóquio e hoje, já somatiza o total de 3 medalhas paralímpicas dentre elas: uma medalha de ouro na prova dos 50 metros costas da classe S2 (deficiência físico-motora), com um tempo impressionante de 53s96, Gabriel também conquistou outra medalha de ouro nos 200 m livre da classe S2 e por fim, prata nos 100 metros costas, também na classe S2.

The athlete started to practice swimming in 2015 due to an invitation from a physical education teacher, and since then he's brought countless achievements to the Brazilian Paralympic Committee.
