[Esther - Group A] The game starts with dividing players into “trees” and “squirrels” in a 2:1 ratio. Next, form groups of threes where two “trees” hold hands above their heads and the “squirrel” ducks under these hands. When the game master shouts “hunter”, the squirrels have to leave their “homes” and run to find a new home each. When the game master shouts “fire”, the trees have to run and cover a new squirrel. When the game master decides to shout “earthquake”, everybody has to run. In each round, the game master counts the participants down and participants who do not find a new group of three in time are eliminated.

[Esther - Group A] All the players, except the first person who is It, sit in a circle. It walks around the circle, tapping each player on the head, saying “duck” each time until he decides to tap someone and say “goose.” The player who is tapped as the “goose” becomes the new It. As soon as the new It is chosen, they must immediately get up and chase the previous It around the circle. The previous It tries to get back to the vacant spot in the circle and sit down before being tagged by the new It. If the previous It successfully reaches the vacant seat without being tagged, the goose is the new It for the next round. If the goose does tag the previous It, then the goose keeps his spot in the circle, and the previous It must continue to be It for another turn.

The flame used up oxygen as it burned, and since the candle was trapped inside a glass, it quickly used up the available oxygen. Without oxygen inside the glass, the candle could not keep burning.

When the candle was still burning, the flame heated up the air inside the glass. The hot air expanded quickly and created higher air pressure inside the glass than outside the glass.

To restore equilibrium, some of the high-pressure air inside escaped from under the glass. You may have seen tiny bubbles escaping from underneath the glass. When the flame extinguished, the air inside the glass cooled down. Cooling air contracted, which in turn lowered the air pressure inside the glass.

Just as before when air rushed out from the glass to balance the air pressure between the inside and outside of the glass, now air wants to get in. As a result, the high-pressure air outside the glass pushes on the water, forcing the water into the glass.

Visually, we can see the water level rising until the air pressure inside the glass is the same as the air pressure outside the glass.

Either way make sure there is plenty of space between players and the water bottle.

Give the players in each team a number so that they are partnered off with a player of the same number on the opposite team. When team members hear their number called the objective is to rush to grab the bottle and get it back to their space (or goal if preferred) before being tagged/touched by the player with the same number from the opposing team. If players are tagged they must immediately drop the object and the opposing player then must then try to get it back to their line without being tagged in return. Players must have the bottle in their hand to win.

First, you need to start by making the zero point chain by using as many rubber bands as possible. You can make the chain by making more loops ensuring that it is about a metre-long. The aim of the game is to cross the rubber band chain by jumping across. Players who successfully make it across move on to the next level, while those who do not will lose their turn. It is similar to limbo, with the modification of having to go under, rather than over. This will allow the students to experience the game Singaporean children played back in the days.

Material needed:

A lot of rubber bands at least 50

Group B

Lesson

Students can learn how to make a Chinese Dragon puppet using paper plates. This allows them to learn a little bit about the Chinese Zodiacs and coincidently, 2024 is the year of Dragon!!

This is a good way to have them focus on their fine motor skills by having to cut in a relatively even spiral down to the center of the plate to create the dragon body. The kids can then bring the dragon puppet home.

Logistics:

Paper plates

Paint

Paintbrush

Paper dragon templates

Scissors

Color pencils

String

Glue sticks

stapler

Paint the paper plate. a.k.a the dragon body

Let it dry and paint the other side

In the meantime, we can start coloring the Paper plate dragon template.

Cut out the head and tail template

Making sure to NOT cut the template in half

Once the paper plate is dry. Get the scissors and cute a spiral into the Paper Plate to make the Dragon Whirligig. It should look a bit like a snail.

NOTE: the thicker your snail twirls the more compact your Dragon tree will be.. the thinner.. the more “elongated” it will be. It is a style preference!

Take a piece of string and tie a knot one end. Then staple it into place.

Next you glue your dragon’s paper tail to the top of your dragon– make the string stick between the two dragon tail halves.

Now “assemble” your head. You will need to glue the bottom of your dragon face together.

Now glue the paper dragon’s head to the bottom of your whirligig

Finally add your legs

Cricket is a popular sport with a set of rules and traditions that can seem complex at first, but at its core, the game is relatively simple and can be enjoyed at various levels. Here's a basic guide on how to play cricket, focusing on the simplified version of the game, commonly known as backyard or street cricket:

Basic Overview:

Cricket is played between two teams, each consisting of 11 players. The game involves two phases: batting and bowling/fielding.

Batting:

Equipment: All you need is a bat and a ball. A tennis ball or a soft cricket ball is suitable for beginners.

Wickets: Designate a target area as the wickets. The first player throws them together aiming at the hole using one hand. In those two gollies one may fall in the hole and other outside the hole or both outside the hole. Then the co players choose a golli, and then the first player is asked to hit the selected golli with another golli that belongs to him. If he succeeds, he wins all the gollies in the hole. If not, he gets the one with which he hit.

The next player takes his turn with the remaining gollies.

If all the players golli does not go into the hole at the first try then second starts, in this the players have to strike out of the way the goli thrown by the other boys.
[Chinese] The story of nian(年)

group b

Logistics: slides, print out of nian

The story of nian:

Long, long ago in ancient China, there was a fierce beast called “Nian”. Its head looked like a lion with a sharp horn on it which could be used to attack its prey. It lived at the bottom of the sea most of the time and would go ashore only on the last day of the lunar year to eat people and livestock. So on that day every year, people ate early, locked the livestock gate tightly and then fled into the distant mountains to avoid being eaten.

Then one year, an old man with silver hair came to one of the villagers and promised to drive away the cruel beast. However, all of the villagers were too scared to believe him and still fled before nightfall.

Nian broke into the village as usual and just as it was ready to butcher its prey and devour it, suddenly the sound of firecrackers arose together with bright flares. Nian trembled and dared not step forward. Then the old man stepped forward dressed in red, and this sent the beast into a frenzy. It was terrified and rushed away.

The second day, after the villagers returned and found their houses and livestock safe and sound they realized that the old man was a celestial being who had come to help them. He also told them the three secret “weapons” to drive Nian away – “items that are red in colour”, “bright lights” and “firecrackers”.

From then on, on the last day of the year, people put up red couplets, hung up red lanterns, set off firecrackers, kept the lights on and stayed up late to keep safe from Nian. As time passed, this custom spread to almost every corner of China and thus developed into one of the most important festivals of Chinese people, the Lunar New Year`s Eve.
