         <title>Industrial Revolution</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The industrial revolution was a transition to new manufacturing machines in the 1800s.<br><br>A couple of these inventions include the cotton gin, and the steam engine. A positive of the cotton gin was, it helped clean cotton faster and easier. A negative of the cotton gin was, since it was making it easier to clean cotton everyone wanted slaves, so the cost for them went up.<br><br>A positive of the steam engine was, it helped ship goods easier and quicker. A negative was it could be dangerous to work.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Sectionalism in the 1800s</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>"In national politics, sectionalism is loyalty to the interests of one's own region or section of the country, rather than to the country as a whole."<br><br>Two major differences between the North and South were, the North had free states, but the south had slave states. Another difference was, Many immigrants from Europe began working in factories and producing goods used by people in the North. But in the south, Many factories began producing cloth with the cotton grown in the South.          <title>Slavery in the 1800</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Slave labor in the 1800s was rough. Families would be separated, a light amount of food was given, jobs weren't decided by gender (women and men had the same jobs), they were whipped, tortured, and we're given no respect(viewed as property). <br><br>Nat Turner's rebellion was a plan to kill lots of slave owners, and their families. This was led by Nat Turner, a male slave<br><br>The Underground Railroad was a passage that runaway slaves would go to, to stay for the day so they wouldn't get caught. They would stay in houses, and the people that helped them were called "conductors".<br><br>The fugitive slave act was a law that stated, if southerners saw runaway slaves, they had to return them. Many runaway slaves feared this law, so they would flee all the way to Canada.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Reform movements</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Women's rights were limited in the 1800's because women weren't allowed to vote, own property, and had no right to the freedom of speech.<br>The Seneca falls convention was where a bunch of leaders came to Seneca falls and talked about women's right and gaining them.<br>Abolitionist tried to create different laws to end slavery. Some leaders of the abolitionist movement were, Fredrick Douglas, Sojourner Truth, and William Lloyd Garrison.<br>The goal of the temperance movement was to decrease the amount of alcohol people drink.<br>Dorothea Dix went to the government and fought to improve prison systems in the U.S. She ended up helping create mental hospitals for children.<br>Lastly, Horace Mann improved education in the U.S. by making it to where not only the wealthy could go to school</div>]]></description>
