In Week 5, we have been introduced to the knowledge on page design, the do's and the don't's and how to make a page readable and pleasing to the eye. 
 
To test your understanding, you are required to find a story page in a local newspaper of 2017. Similar to the previous task, select one page that has more than one story. Take a picture and share on padlet what do you think about the page design. Is it good or bad? What would you suggest to make it more attractive?

In my opinion, this newspaper really caught my attention because of their design. It is in tabloid grid and roughly half the size of broadsheet. In this news, it has five stories in one page. The designer put a few pictures in the newspaper but one of it is in dominant picture which is the biggest among the others. It shows the main news in the newspaper to the reader. The stories are in modular page design, so it looks neat and the reader can read the news easily. The disadvantage of this newspaper is it consist jump stories which should be avoid because of the inconvenience of turning the pages and locating the continuation. In conclusion, keep all story shapes rectangular.

A local newspaper in Malaysia. The design form was tabloid grid that half from broadsheet newspaper. In my opinion, editor using four columns format which is have four stories in one page. This is an attractive modular page design with picture and cutline for each story. Apart from that, the story was short text so their put more images to fulfill the empty space but I think the more images make a single page look dizzy for every story there. My suggestion their should put less image and add more text to make the readers understand about the story. However, the design was good arrangement and attractive that make the reader want to know what the story talk about.

Based on my view on this page, it use broadsheet grid. Besides, it also has 6 column grid with pictures. It has one boxing story in the centre of the page. It has 4 modular page design. I think, to make it more attractive for the readers to read, the editor must use tabloid grid.

The editor used 5-column grid with images and 3 modules in the page design which can make the page looks neat and readers can read the stories easily. Besides, the three stories are all in rectangular shape with an image each. The cutline of two images in the page are placed below them while the other one is placed beside it.

It is a page with art that keep story rectangular shape, vary the shapes and sizes, emphasize what important, balance the scatter art and include the butting headlines that should be avoid from using it.  This page also using the modular page design as which its idea of treating stories as a modules discrete rectangular units.

From my view,  to make this page more attractable, this page should include dominant image in its page as it is a page with art so, this will alert the readers what more important. Also, beware from using the butting headlines in the page which should not be in the page because it can cause confusion to the readers. This page also should use a bigger picture to easier the readers understand the overall stories and make it interesting to read. Lastly, to make it more attractive this page should keep the text short and clean to please the readers eye.

The dominant story in the page design use a different headline than other story which is written in a large bolder text to attract reader's attention.
This newspaper use bastard column measures as an effective way to show that the story is different. The picture in dominant story have a mugshot that being implement in the story strengthen the quote as it describe whom deliver the quote.

This newspaper used tabloid grid, a local newspaper in Malaysia. Editor using five columns grid with picture that can be more easier for the reader to read the news. This news also are arrange with modular design. There are four modular design in this page. Page designs in all newspapers are all shapes rectangular and horizontal stories. That can make the story look more tidy and neat. It used pages without art will attract readers to read more because they have more story in one page. So people can understand the story and can relate story with the photo. The editor is playing with headline sizing which the top story is using the biggest headline. The page also designed with butting headlines and editor is using a boxing stories to differentiate between different stories.

The page design also not good because no more attractive photos. Moreover, all the stories is just more cover about international business. I can make a suggestion maybe the stories can added some photos were colourful and advertisement to make it more attractive.

The advantage is easy to brought. It has 5 columns with picture and has 2 modular page design which is 2 different stories in one page. Each story has their own dominant picture. So, readers can understand and follow the step of story effectively. Moreover, the editor used designed a page with art and keep all story shapes rectangular.

In short, for me, it is a good page design that can attract the eyes of readers. Simple but nice and clear story.

In my opinion, I think it is attractive to the readers because this page is making stories fit. Moreover, the arrangement was balance and good.

Furthermore, this page design has 4 modular designs which are the rectangular units of stories and make the stories fit. It such a balance and arranged that can make the readers easier to read because some of the page designs are too crowded and disorderly. That’s all from me.

On this newspaper's FrontPage, it use summary lead and a catchy title of news to attract the readers' attention. As we have at the bottom of the masthead, there are teaser which will invite the readers to continue reading the news. Also, this newspaper also using a bastard column measures for the lead news for "Shafie akan Ditahan?"and it also consist some summary lead and uplift quote to make the news more interesting. At the middle and bottom of the Utusan Malaysia, the writer put some small headlines story with page number to make the front page full of news. These were called as jump stories that supposedly and possibly have to be avoided because of the inconvenience of turning the pages and locating the continuation. The jump stories will troublesome the attention of the readers.
The page design of this newspaper contain 11 modular design as it have 11 discrete rectangular units and it is weak type because too much story that make it crowded and messy. For my opinion, i think the writer should decrease the modular units to make the news adhere, appealing,readable and pleasing the eyes of the readers. I choose a page design from berita harian. The page story considered as broadsheet grid which is broadsheet pages provides space for bigger photos. It consists 6 column-grids that used variety of grids. The editor has used these pages as a page without art. This is because it contains butting headlines which highlight one new in one line and sometimes cause confusion to reader. The pages story is used in modular page design with rectangular shapes. The page also use bigger picture to easier the readers understanding the whole stories. Overall, I think it is interesting can attract readers attention and easy to understand for reader.

The designer comes out with one big hot issue in front the page. They used big dominant picture with headline to attract the reader to read the hot news. The colour of the front page also quite simple and not too heavy to the reader. The selection of the colour also based on the story what they come out. They also put one hot issue in the column besides the teaser. In addition, one of the story not include any picture.

In my humble opinion, this page design is good but not reach the excellent limit because there are still single thing they can add and it is a picture for the last story but still it came out good because there are no advertisement part on this page.
