         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Hydroelectric power has a share of about 25% of the total electricity produced in Romania.<br>The oldest hydroelectric power plant on the current territory of Romania was put into operation in 1896.<br>Timișoara was the first European city of electric lighting produced by burning fossil fuels since 1884, but at the beginning of the twentieth century, due to the hydroelectric power plant, Timișoara was supplied with electricity produced as renewable energy. The Timișoara hydroelectric power plant was inaugurated in 1910, on the Bega Canal, in Timișoara, and is currently one of the oldest hydroelectric power plants on the current territory of Romania.<br>The largest hydroelectric plants in Romania are the Izvorul Muntelui Bicaz Hydropower Plant, the Vidraru Hydropower Plant, the Iron Gates I and II, the Costesti Rock Hydropower Plant.</div>]]></description>
