They often require less direction because they are so familiar with work place expectations. 

Teens are new to the work force even if they come with a little prior work experience. They often need a little more direction and nudging. Ideas often have to be drawn out of teens whereas with adults they share more freely.

Her next task with be paging slips, so searching for books to fulfill holds.  She is so eager to learn! 
Also, make it FUN for them, be patience and make sure they feel important.

Teens are generally new the the work scene and won't have as many developed skills, but are willing to learn and be trained in several areas.

Teens are developing (both in body and mind) so they need many varied types of experiences during this development process to move them forward into adulthood.  Volunteering is a great way to help in this process.  Because of their lack of experience teens can potentially require more training/supervision time on the part of the library staff.  But the end result of this leads to their success as a volunteer.

Adults come into volunteering with a fully developed brain and skills they've already learned. Thankfully, in most cases, libraries have tasks that need both, specialty skills and broader skills. 

Teens' brains and skills are still in the development process. With positive learning experiences, like volunteering at the library, this can aid in their development process and prepare them more for adulthood. It's best to have patience and a sense of humor when working with teens as well.

Working with teens you are acting like a mentor and be more flexible you teaching job skills, but your also teaching life skills, such as punctuality, offering creative outlets, how to work with a team. Teens also bring in other teens, this is valuable because friends will come to the library, clear expectation about friends respecting the job of the teen volunteer is important, but so is the additional teens that come in.
Working with adult volunteers toy have an opportunity to draw on job skills, or new library education with using students. Adult after being giving clear expectations and policies, can be expected to follow them, if it isn't a good fit, the mentoring process does not need to be as long to retain a not so good fit. 

Both teens and adults both need tasks that are not mundane and feel they are contributing to the work tormentor. Thank yous are important to both , and need to hear often about how well they are doing.
