How does Raskolnikov approach Sonia so that she will be inclined to understand his acts of murder

Upon approaching Sonia, Raskolnikov begins by asking her a hypothetical question. He asks between Luzhin and Katerina, which one should be allowed to go on living. He then describes Luzhin as if she were the villains in the situation by saying she is a person who is evil and commits hate crimes. By doing this he is trying to justify the murder of Luzhin and Katerina without Sonia knowing it was him yet.
