Women make up 47% of the workforce in the United States. Women started to make an impact on the workforce in the 1920's. But no matter the steps and action taken there are still disadvantages for women in the workforce

One of the main challenges in workforce is equal pay, but it's not just hourly pay it can be bonus checks, promotions, overtime pay, access to health care and retirement benefits. Sexual harassment can be a big issue in the work force its shown that 1 and 3 women experience sexual harassment in the work place.

Important protectors

Equal pay act apart of the fair labor standard act of 1938- everyone gets the same pay for the same jobs.

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 - prohibits discrimination against women in the workplace.

The Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978- stopping employers from firing pregnant women for needing time off

It is proven that diversity can struggle in the workplace, more men then women are present in the United States work force along with race and ethnicity. There are also a lack of women present in leadership roles in the United States due to people trying to threaten then from running for office

Gender

Gender is hierarchical and produces inequalities that intersect with other social and economic inequalities. Gender inequality puts women and young girls at risk for their health when health care isn't accessible and women face barriers that men do not like accessing information and service.

reproductive justice

In the United States currently abortion is up to the states, some people feel as if abortion should be banned completely while others say we have the right to choose. For a long time women were only aloud to get abortions for medical reasons if the life of the baby or mother was at risk. Now it's up to the states if abortion is allowed or not.

The United States has the worst health outcome over any high income nation. Also during 2020-2021 the average life expectancy for the United States its due to medical expenses being so high due to new technologies seeking treatment and health care is getting more expensive

Equity in health and wellness

Equity in health and wellness means everyone has the ability to be healthy. The ways this can be done is fairness, community engagement which means everyone getting together for a solution. Health equity can improve health outcomes and reduce health care costs and overall benefit the community.

Gender and citizenship

Citizenship is being a part of a community and following the rules and laws of the community, it should be an inclusive thing all rights between men and women should be equal. Everyone in the world has different needs often times women have their citizenship but it is connected to a man. It is important to push towards women's entitlement to citizenship.

Gender in the military

When it comes to women in the military before women weren't seen fit for the military because it was considered a mans job there was a lot of people who didn't support women in the military because all they would care about is male attention and their looks, but recent day women are aloud to join the military and can perform the same jobs men do.

In the United States there tends to be a lack of women in leadership roles, according to class lecture it is because often times when women do run for leadership they are forced to stop because people will often threaten them because they don't trust a women leading the country

Intimate partner violence

Intimate partner violence is one of the most overlooked, there used to be a law that during a marriage you basically didn't need consent because you were married, that has now thankfully changed. Due to the lecture Intimate partner violence can be physical, emotional, sexual, economical.

Teen violence

Teen violence can be for men or women, it can include physical, emotional, sexual and bullying. Teen dating is very common and as teens explore relationships they are more put at risk for teen violence being young and not knowing the signs.

Sexual violence can be many different forms, stalking, rape, human trafficking and armed conflict. Sadly some people don't listen to consent which would make someone a victim of sexual violence.

Resisting gender based violence

There are many ways to avoid and resist gender based violence, I think it's important to remember that violence can happen to any gender. great ways to resist are informing yourself, listen to someone who might be experiencing violence have a saftey plan and know when to intervene.

Marches- where a group of people march along in a set route

sit ins- where a group if people sit in an area and refuse to move

walk outs- usually peaceful protesting a specific policy

memorials- when an event happens where people pass away laying flowers where it happened or a whole memorial to spread awareness of an event and what took place
