This is easier said than done!
Sometimes we can become so focussed on what we want to say that we forget to listen to the others in our group. Take this scenario:
Jane: I think we need to recycle more because we are creating mountains of waste which are just being left to rot.
Jose: I think it is more important to cut down on how much stuff we use. That way we won't have so much to get rid of. What do you think, Ciara?
Ciara: Millions of people recycle everyday. They recycle their paper, glass and plastic.
Sadly, poor Ciara was so nervous about the discussion, that she memorised what she wanted to say and just said it. She did not even hear that Jose had asked her a specific question.

If that happens, think of a question to make your classmates look at the issue from another angle. ey deserve it.
Laura: Prom is the most important night of Year 11.  The school that insists the prom should be held at the school hall and not in party venue is totally  out of order.
Paul: I agree.  Its our night and we should be able to enjoy it like we want. Agree. End of.
Sarah: Yes, but by having it at school the tickets were free.  Do you think everyone can afford a ticket to a hotel?
