Year: 1947

Summary: The Marshall Plan was a plan to provide $17 billion of US funds to countries in Europe. This was because the US feared that if America didn't help rebuilt European countries then the Soviet Union would take on that job and these countries would become communist. The Marshall Plan helped Western Europe a lot, industries in these countries were producing twice as much as they had been the year before war broke out.

Impact: The Marshall Plan made European countries that got aid somewhat indebted to US which made them more likely to ally with US rather than the USSR.

Year: 1948 - 1949

Summary: Due to the Soviet Unions attempt to kick western powers out of all of the entire city to create a unified, communist Berlin the Berlin Blockade was created. The Berlin Blockade made was to blocked off all access to West Berlin. Because of this, President Truman started the Berlin Airlift which sent food and resources to West Berlin so they did not need to submit to Stalin.

Impact: The impact of this on the Cold War was that it allowed the US to help West Berlin without directly going into war.

Year: 1949

Summary: 12 Countries from North America and Western Europe gathered in Washington, D.C. to form NATO which was an alliance to protect each other from any attacks from the Soviet. NATO wanted to promote democratic values, help member nations cooperate on defense and security-related issues, and prevent conflict

Impact: NATO protected the countries that were a part of it from possible attacks from the Soviet

Year: 1961

Summary: The Berlin Wall was created as a way to stop the people from East Berlin from fleeing to West Berlin and crossing the Iron Curtain, which is a metaphor to symbolically define the divided Europe as two separate areas from the end of World War II. West Berlin was placed under the control of the US, Great Britain and France, while East Berlin was placed under the control of the USSR. The purpose of the Berlin Wall was also to keep Western “fascists” from entering East Germany.

Impact: The Berlin Wall stopped the people from West Berlin from influencing the people in East Berlin with their beliefs and it created a larger divide between East and West Berlin.

Year: 1959-1960's

Summary: After President Castro got elected as in Cuba. The U.S. worried about the invasion that is going to occured in the country by the Soviet Union having an intense relationship with Castro. So the U.S> tried to help the Cuban troops to defend them self and their leaders too.

Impact:On April 1961, while the Cubans are starting an war against the Soviet Union Foreigner. The failed invasion begin to happen when the USSR tried to nuke Cuba.

Year: 1950 - 1953

Summary: The Korean War was a proxy war between South and North Korea. The US backed South Korea and the USSR backed North Korea. Soon after the war began, North Korean forces had swept across almost all of South Korea in which the US launched a counteroffensive to. After years of fighting, the two sides agreed to a ceasefire near the 38th parallel. North and South Korea still remain divided today.

Impact: The Korean War allowed the two superpower countries, US and USSR, to be in conflict but not make it direct.

Year: 1943-1949

Summary: In 1943, a group of Greek communists attempted to overthrow the Greece government which started a civil war in the country. As a response to this, President Harry Truman issued the Truman Doctrine which he stated the the US would stop the spread of communism by sending financial aid to support the Greek government. Due to increased American aid, the Greek ended up defeating the communists. This also led to Greece joining NATO 1952.

Impact: The Truman Doctrine was a doctrine saying outright that they would try to contain communism and support democratic nations.

Year: 1955-1991

Summary: The Warsaw pact was an alliance made up of communist countries. Similar to NATO, they focused on guaranteeing defense in any of the members of the alliance are attacked. It was created to oppose NATO.

Impact: The Warsaw pact opposed NATO and invoked some fear into any other countries that wanted to attack them. Similar to NATO.

Summary: Sputnik was the first artificial Earth satellite, which was launched by the Soviet. The successful launch made the American public nervous. This began a decade long Space race where the US and USSR battled to achieve superior spaceflight capability.

Impact: Made the US interested in the Space race and raised Cold War tensions between US and USSR.

Summary: The United States and the Soviet Union were having a war over the presence nuclear-armed ballistic missiles in Cuba. This was ties to the Bay of Pig events. President Kennedy was worried that the nuclear explosion would happen in the parts of east coast of the USA. So he decided to create a blockage from the offensive weapons and associated materials.

Impact: President Kennedy and Khrushchev were having a discussion about nuclear-armed missile and decide the never invaded Cuba and withdraw the nuclear armed missiles.

Summary: After the independence war was over, Vietnam was split into different region known as the North and South Vietnam. Each is ruled by different authorities and leaders until a civil war started in taking over certain parts of the South Vietnam. Making the U.S. and other countries get involved against the communists.

Impact: The South Vietnam was became a Communism country and the U.S. have gave up country and years of fighting.

Impact: this creates a Reunification of the two countries of East and West Germany.
